Well about the hospital cut, it is because Goro(aqua) is the pov character. Except for the more emotional moments, he is the pov of episode 1. That is why it ends with his narration. Also, he is considered missing, not dead.

As a manga reader I never expected this much hype and I'm all for it, but I completely understand people wouldn't like the following episodes if the series hasn't hooked you because right now the main characters haven't been developed much, and this is a very character driven show.

the problem with it being in anime form is that it just comes out too slow. we'll have 11 episodes, everyone will forget about it for like a year until the next season comes out, by which point half the viewers of the show will've disappeared. oshi no ko is a very hard manga to put down because every single chapter flows directly into the next one, and when you have a 1 week or more break between each 20 minute episode it just doesn't work as well. just reading all 116 chapters of oshi no ko back to back was one of the best experiences with manga i've ever had, and i don't think the anime will ever really be able to capture that, until its finished of course, or until the license expires and we have a Bunny Girl Senpai situation.

I feel like the pivotal point of why it got popular was just ai’s death. I knew about the plot of the first episode (though not entirely) and it still managed to subvert my expectations. Without drawing too much of a comparison between the two shows (really different MCs and stories overall), the last isekai able to hook me like this was Mushoku Tensei. And I'm not a big fan of the genre either. 2 great videos back to back, keep up the good work !

@@chosenuwu The show has some strong drawbacks like its MC being a shithead, still telling the story of an incel power fantasy and having some uncomfortable loli fan service. I was well aware of these while watching but the first 5 episodes really had me invested and from there I had to keep watching ! But as the story goes on, the drawbacks I outlined earlier tend to softly disappear because the MC grows a lot in a believable way. Also, the world building is great. Ultimately not for everyone and I don't know if I'd recommend it to anyone new to isekai (not saying that you are ^^). Oshi no ko, on the other hand, has the advantage to throw at you all the weird stuff in the first episode only (it's my guess based on the first 4 episodes) which makes it an easier reco.

One thing i don't get is how people watch the first episode but end up having wrong expectations going forward. 90% of the first episode shows and talks about the negatives and real-world implications of the entertainment industry in Japan. And somehow people are surprised when it does into exactly that? The revenge plot line does get more involved but it isn't the crux of the series, its more like a plot throughway, some kind of goal or end point.
@Anonymous__S
@Anonymous__S Жыл бұрын
Really people do that? No wonder they're so excited, "surprised" and why they praise the show for bringing up the truth aboutthese jobs. Many people think that the deep talk about enterntainment is cool and I think so too, but I wasn't impressed. That's because I had a K-pop era (in which I learned about people's weird tendencies when they're fanatic) and my artistic era (literally went to a masterclass that explained the gigantic hoax espectacle is, given by a national celebrity in my homeland) and then it just kept confirming as I grew up. So while I appreciated the insight (I learned even more details about specific areas of enterntainment thanks to this), the sole fact was not really a hit to me. I also couldn't feel that much attachment or pity to Ai because her story wasn't new to me, I thought "Ah, another poor soul". Many people say they cried when she... y'know... I liked that turn of event, it was very interesting, but I didn't reeally connected to her. Though I'm really hooked into the revenge plot too because I know it'll give more insight and background about whatever Aqua's forced into while escalating to find the father.

Re Zero is definitely not your average issekai. It's all about tearing down the tropes of the genre with the MC realizing he's crowbarred himself - thoughtlessly - into a lonely journey surrounded by genuinely damaged people he won't ever be able to fully "get," nor they him. But the whole story is about becoming someone you can be proud of, even if it means resetting from zero - that includes the MC as well as the people he falls in line with, who not only have their own dimensions but do so while breaking down issekai archetypes. It's so worth a watch. It's so well-written. And season 3 is going to be one of the seasons of all time, without a doubt lol.

Subverting expectations in order to tell a thought provoking and interesting story is something that has long been done before everyone knew the catch phrase. This story does it very well. I feel like so many creators now fall into the trap of trying to subvert expectations just so they can subvert expectations, but can't tell you how it made their story any better. Because in those cases it didn't lol Came to this show knowing 0 about it, just because one of my fave react channel had it in their play list. Half way through just kept thinking "what the hell am I watching?" lol But all caught up to Ep5, and loving it, easily in my favorite anime list now. Yep, there r parts I dont like too, like the braindead decision of a doctor to follow a stalker into a forest, but the goods far out weights the bad. It s also fine to stop after 1 episode and treat it as a feature length movie. Imo that was also the intent of the author, given that ep 1 was the 1st whole volume, basically meant to be treated as a separate prologue. And u can always come back to watch the rest as a sequel movie if u want to.

Is it though? Braindead I mean? Two things: 1) The Doctor is obsessing over Ai and protecting her secret. @@whyyoumadbro2370 Wait you think number of chapters correlates with dragging on? Dragging on depends if he wastes time on chapters or arcs that don’t add anything new and just goes on without any direction. If you are even in Kaguya fandom, alot of criticisms came after it finished that it dragged on alot, ended in a cheesy way and if he had ended it in place where S3 ended, it would have been better. He could have also tried to end it so much better but he left it open on purpose as OnK isn’t as loved as Kaguya. This also correlates to volume sales, as it dropped significantly after volume 21. S3 was in Volume 15, so he added 10 volumes of nothing actually happening or changing. You could have enjoyed it but sales don’t agree with what you want. Now funny enough OnK exhibits a worse decline as the volume sales dropped significantly after volume 8. Which is funny when you think about it because most of OnK nominations were actually for everything from volume 1 to volume 7, after volume 7, it got zero nominations unlike many other mangas that did. It will rise ofcourse because of anime’s popularity but if Kaguya last year was any indication, I doubt it will help it in the long run.

The thing we haven't even gotten to the good stuff. Yet. Just like how Ishigami didn't come in until episode 6, the same is going to be with Akane when she comes into the episode this week. Then it will REALLY be battle for best girl. But the thing that makes the series so great is that within the story of revenge is really will see the underbelly of the entertainment industry. Especially with the next two episodes that came from real life events. It also goes to show how Aka Akasaka has great range to do TWO series at ONCE. Drawing and writing Love is War and writing this series. Hell after Love is War manga was done he released ANOTHER series a week ago that he wrote called Love Agency. Another rom com. This guy is a content machine. Still you really are going to see what makes this series so great the next week week AND I get a new manga chapter on Wednesday.

I agree that you should definitely wait till all the episodes have come out because MAN does this show get good after episode 7 or 8 I believe, I know it maybe shouldn't take that long, but this series is peak and I think that certain scenes will ONLY ever be good in manga format, I highly recommend you read the manga if you found the anime a bit slow because sometimes for the story to develop properly and not turn out ultra rushed then they gotta take it slow so I see how people can drop it because of that, trust me the Reality Dating Show arc and everything afterwards is peak

If you're considering dropping the anime to read the manga, normally I would say to just read the manga, but for this show in particular, maybe you should actually wait until the season is over and watch, since, unlike a lot of other shows where "just read the manga' is actually good advice, the adaptation for this one is absolutely fantastic. But, If you can't wait until the next season for the anime to continue, then I will recommend to just read the manga.

Another reason why I don’t like the show is because how much it doesn’t make sense. One of the things you covered with how nobody questions a 3 year old talking as if they were a grown adult, but another point is how fake the characters feel. An example of this is when Ai get stabbed by her stalker, she isn’t scared to die but comforts the killer and her kids. Instead of making it semi realistic it made her into a character from a tragic romance movie. On top of that people keep saying it’s very informative about the idol industry, no. It really isn’t at all. Instead of covering actual negative aspects like exploitation from the idols managers it covers things that are much less serious. More of it being “insightful” that’s the first episode. After that it doesn’t cover any of the things that people really liked about it at first. All I had to say

It covers stuff like exploitation later on in the manga. And yes, Ai is pretty unrealistic which is normal for anime, though there are some stuff lying underneath that to show a pretty realistic take on it. I think it's because it was a bait so people get surprised. But honestly, reincarnation and them not being surprised on literal babies talking didn't clue you in on it not being 100% realistic? Manga reader here. Episode 1 is a prologue to a setup season. The entire 1st season is there to get you into the general groove of the world of Oshi no Ko, including the stuff that's about to happen in the remaining 2 episodes. The plot truly starts advancing forward after that, and I believe that season 2 will be much more interesting to anime-only fans because it develops everyone from the main cast quite well (except for MEM, but MEM is just MEM, she's there to balance the depressing tone with some light-hearted moments),

Edit: Spoiler Ahead Yea so good I read the manga which has filler but overall I love the information they give into the Japanese entertainment industry so much so that I don't really want Aqua to pursue revenge cause (small spoiler) the manga doesn't focus a whole lot into the revenge plot mostly character drama, backstory and how the industry works(my favourite part. Also Akane best girl. (another small spoiler) I find myself wanting Aqua to drop the revenge thing pretty early on because the story makes it fairly clear that he would probably lead a happier life without it (MAJOR SPOILER) and deep down he wants to drop it as well and he is doing this mostly out of guilt that he couldn't save Ai or do something to help. Anyway this has become a long rant and 1 fifth review so imma give the manga a score of 4/5. I can definately say after reading the manga that the anime would be better as the art isn't as good as the anime (by no means bad) the manga just don't got that same sparkle in the eye y'know. Edit: The plot convenience for the sake of progressing the plot is pretty bullshit. Like the very first ep when he chases the stalker for no good reason when he could just report it the authorities or warn Ai, etc. (small spoiler) this one is the one that really ruined it for me, at one point a little girl hinted to be the god of death or something hints to a certain someone that a corpse is somewhere and is never seen again, unless I am missing something I think that is pretty lazy writing like that character was purely written for plot progression with no reasonable explantion with why a GOD is here which in my opinion ruins the immersion. Anyway I still like the manga but taking this into consideration I'll give it a 7/10 (my original score if they remove this part or a higher score if they remove all plot conveniences like how Aqua came the the conclusion that his biological dad was the culprit -though they did hint that Ai called the papa- though I think he should have investigated more before he came to that conlcusion like it was summarised in the anime in a mere few minutes just like, "ok since only my papa knows he must be it ").

i think it was explained in the anime or aqua monologued about how noone knows where ai lives except for ai's manager and the manager's wife to not expose that ai had kids, and there's no reason for aqua to suspect them because they gain nothing from it. Aqua could investigate if there are more suspects but he can't really investigate because 1. aqua was a child when ai died 2. ai is secretive about her life before she had aqua and ruby and ai has no reason to tell them because they were children at the time so ai probably thought too young to know such behind the scene stuff 3. aqua was working at a small company (strawberry productions went downhill when ai died) so aqua probably didn't have a lot of connections 4. aqua/goro was the doctor of ai and ai or ai's manager told him that they didn't expect someone to know ai in the town the hospital ai is in and no one knows where ai is at the time except maybe the real dad of aqua and ruby so it's safe to assume that aqua's assumption is correct tldr: aqua didn't have a lot to work with aside from his assumption that his biological dad gave the stalker ai's location about the hospital and where ai is currently living since ai is not close to anyone but her manager, children and her lover.

Fair enough. But, maybe as a manga reader, I have to say the obvious: Of course, the plot is slow at the beginning, it's a series not a movie so it should have the long-building phase, where they introduced new characters, new plots etc. Also, the whole focus of the show is the entertainment industry, not Aqua. It's not even explicitly stated that we are really focusing on Aqua's revenge. If I can represent how the author's attention is towards the show, I'll give the dark side of the entertainment industry to be at least 80% of the show. The rest is the combination of Aqua's revenge and his life as an entertainer. I may be biased towards Akasaka but I like his writing where he is focusing on the main plot, not the "most popular" plot. Nobody denies that if he try to push Aqua's revenge as the main story then the story would be a masterpiece, where it becomes a typical shounen type of revenge thing. But, he done his research for years, even after the Kaguya-sama live action adaptation, he surely take everything that happens behind the scenes as his references. So, all in all, I still think the manga is good even though it does have it's own plotholes here and there, it's not a perfect show nonetheless. But, it does great in potraying the depressed side of the entertainment industry.
