Yeah, Mushoku Tensei and Re:Zero are the two isekai animes that gave me the most interest in their stories. There are some unlikeable elements of the MCs, and Rudeus is definitely not as redeemable as Re:zeros protag, but seeing their characters grow and learn over the course of their series is refreshing with good world building and stories to boot.

i've heard people hate on the anime purely for that reason. Like they complain that its boring to see characters having internal problems and talking about it. I don't see how you could hate their approach to it since its so well spread out and not just "MC has problem, works for 1 episode and it's solved". Instead it spread over months to show his actual growth as a person
@nguyenthanhhai6725 Жыл бұрын
What Mushoku Tensei does better than the trash ones is the world can exist with or without the main characters. ( If you read the redundancy or the novels you will know why). Rudeus has to learn about this new world and adjust himself to it. However, since we are in this little dude's head, we know he is messed up and has a lot to learn to grow. And, this is a miss or hit point because if you project yourself as him you will feel weird but if you take a step back and realize you are just an observer you will understand the story. Also, the supporting casts can be independent of the MC, they have their own stuff to deal with too. For example, Eris has her own training arc to realize her dream, Sylphy and Roxy even Ruijerd,... all have goals to achieve therefore, they can exist without the MC. A lot of trash Isekai just made a whole world and characters exist to serve the MC, whatever the MC does is justified and their audience can project themselves to the MC, This is why trash Isekai keeps getting adaptation like mushroom after rain.

(LN Spoilers) It's interesting to think about because in the story of mushoku tensei this is the first time that Rudeus existed in the time loop experienced by Orsted. When Orsted first meets Dead End he knows both Ruijerd and Eris but doesn't know Rudeus. So the other characters would have lived their own lives even without Rudeus present. Plus apparently this was a prequel to the actual story.

@@klys05gaming95 uhm, wdym by “prequel to the actual story”? I know that there is a continuation planned with another protagonist some 50 to 70 years after the battle in biheril kingdom, but that’s not “the actual story” right? It’s just another part of it innit?

@klys05gaming95 hey so, this is my opinion but. I never understand why timeloops and time manipulation is used in stories like this. I'm just wondering. Is it not cool enough without it? Or what's the deal
@klys05gaming95 Жыл бұрын
@@Bo55man25 i myself haven't really looked too much into it. I just heard somewhere (most likely from watching videos like these) that there would be another story taking place in the same universe after Rudeus dies. I believe that Rudeus' story is just a setup for the war between the man-god and Rudeus' children. The reason why I said the actual story is because Muskoku Tensei is written in the pov of Rudeus (sometimes other character but mainly Rudeus) so when the sequel to Mushoku Tensei comes out I think that it will feel different bc most of the characters we know in Mushoku Tensei won't be there anymore. So it will be a part of the Mushoku Tensei story as a whole but it won't be part of Rudeus' story anymore. At least I think?

So much so that the anime can't even fit all of it in, things like how magic works or the sword styles from volume 1 were skimmed to the bare minimum yet the novels go in deeper in status, ranks, requirments and interactions between them. If you are interested to learn more about the world of MT but aren't planning on reading the novels, then I would highly recommned to watch videos from AniNews on YT, he's made a cut content video for each episode of season 1(as well is currently doing them for season 2, not to be confused with part 2 of season 1 😭) as well as multiple other videos explaining sword styles, magic, demon eyes etc... A big element thats understated, are the languages, as those were made by the animation staff, in the novels it was just explained when someone speaks another language, _and as Rudeus speaks most of them, it made little difference for him_ Then the studio went far and beyond actually fleshing out the languages, and animating who understands them and who doesnt, its a detail thats not present all the time, but its a really large amount of work For another isekai, i recommend The Weirkey Chronicles, is an ongoing western novel series where the MC got isekaid to a system of 9 worlds, then got killed by his mentor for unknown reasons, and returned to earth in the same moment after being ran over by the truck, then lived a life full of resentment hoping for payback until he got isekaid again (this is chapter 1 btw,notreally a spoiler) It also deals with a flawed main character, in this case one filled with anger and kinda stuck up due to his knowledge and experience, who is on his quest for revenge while also remembering how easy it was the first time, when he was the chosen one The level of introspection is ok, but the world building is extremely rich and original, and the side characters have their own stuff going on, while the enemies operate like a proper conspiracy, with their layers of secrecy and power, while there are lots of factions who already have their own conflicts Its a very original and entertaining read

Best part about the anime is that it's a nerfed, surface-level (not as much as the manga) adaptation of the light novels because of how it cut most the POVs aside from Rudeus and how it cuts quite literally all the great chunk of character development that subtly happens through monologues. It has also barely started, there's like 2 seasons of setup for the non-stop payoffs. And yet it's still better than 99% of Isekai out there. They were supposed to be inspired by this, what even went wrong?

The answer is pretty simple: Mushoku Tensei takes itself seriously as a fantasy story rather than just copying the vague outline of something that came before it with only a minor gimmick or two to set it apart. Characters have well-defined personalities, personal histories that aren't always spoonfed to the audience, real flaws, and receive actual development, and character relationships are treated seriously. There's actual inventive worldbuilding instead of just a copy/paste demon lord/chosen hero plot. There's an actual magic system instead of some contrived RPG bullshit with levels, stats, named skills and all (only time I don't mind that at all is with parodies like Konosuba). There's actual stakes, character choices can have far-reaching consequences, fights are exciting, characters have a healthy fear of death and are sometimes at real risk of it. The vast majority of newer isekai seem content to just stay in the established "box" of what an isekai story is supposed to look like. Mushoku Tensei happens to be an isekai but is first and foremost a "proper" high fantasy series. And ironically it even makes far more interesting use of its "isekai" elements than most of the later stories it inspired.

I feel exactly the same as you. I generally hate isekai, but MT is the ONLY exception for me. But it goes even further than that: When I got interested in MT, I actually started reading the WN and ended up basically binge-reading the entire story! It was the first and only webnovel, I’ve ever read, that’s how good MT is. It is an actually fully-fledged fantasy story, which already differentiates it from literally 99% of all other isekai. If you think, that season 1 is good already, then, oh boy, you haven’t seen ANYTHING yet! The story really becomes INCREDIBLE in the later parts. If you can tolerate the fact that Rudy is a pervert and understand that he ISN’T meant to be a role model (like many critics fail to understand). His character arc will be amazing and some of the plottwist MT has to offer LITERALLY made me jump off my seat! MT will subvert people's expectations so hard, they won't know what hit them. Some people don’t see it yet, but believe me, when I say it: IT IS THE ONLY ISEKAI WORTH WATCHING!

Mushoku Tensei is my first isekai, and it's also probably my last. I really like how the story incorporates the mc's past life into the plot in meaningful ways and makes it so even if it's the _past_ , it's still always present in some way and gives the protag challenges he needs to overcome. I love how the whole reincarnation theme plays a huge role in the story and affects the main character. With that said, I don't think I'd want to watch a show with the same premise, even IF it was executed as well as Mushoku Tensei.

It most likely will get fully adapted, studio bind, the studio animating MT, was basically made solely to animate MT, but probably not until about 2030 or so will it be fully animated, season 1 part 1 came out winter 2021, part 2 in summer 2021, season 2 part 1 in summer 2023, s2 part 2 will be spring 2024. Each core is 3 LN volumes, there are 26 volumes total, 9 adapted so far, 12 when 2 part 2 is finished. Season 3 part 1 can probably be expected around spring 2025 and s3 part 2 around fall 2025. Thats just me going off of season 1 and 2's release time frames with skipping one season between cores, and 2 years between a new season. That would bring us to volume 18, core 1 would be volume 13-15, core 2 would be volumes 16-18 (or 6 volumes per 2 core season). That leaves 8 volumes, roughly 2 years in between seasons, season 4 would be around fall 2027, and season 5, the final season, would be late 2029/early 2030. This is obviously just me going off of the trend so far, the timeline could speed up, it could slow down, it could be cancelled (i hope not, this is PEAK fiction lol) but yeah, the earliest i see it getting fully adapted would be the end of 2029, but that all depends on the delay between seasons. Sorry for rambling on, your comment made me start to think of a possible timeline for release. If you read all this, thank you, that means my time wasn't wasted putting my 3am brainstorming into text lmao

Probably the show that has me most excited for every new season. I absolutely adore it. While I personally don't mind the degenerate parts of the show, I do wish they weren't in there, or at least presented in a different way. I can't ever recommend this show to a normal person when the mc casually molests a sleeping girl halfway through the first season. I can philosophy my way through it as "his bad traits aren't magically going to disappear" which I'm sure the author intended, but the reality is that scene is way over the top for the average person. I think this show offers one of the best combinations of world building, animation, character development, and plot out the entirety of the anime genre. It's such a waste those few scenes ruin everything else for some perople. I can rave about the show all I want and play down the degeneracy, but I can't in good faith excuse a scene where an adult man assaults a child and the show continues on with no repercussion. It's not a moment that can be glossed over in good faith. I've had multiple friends I convinced to watch the show drop it due to degeneracy, with one specifically outraged by this scene, and I completely get it. If they eased off the degeneracy a tad in the first season (while still maintaining the ecchi/sex for the degenerate viewers) I feel like this show could've had an unbelieve audience capture. This show really has it all, such a shame it initially put so much emphasis into degeneracy when it's virtually gone by the 2nd season anyway.
@dickdickling9389 Жыл бұрын
You literally just described why it would not have really worked without the degeneracy and then said it would have been better without it. The whole point is that he is a hikkomori, ,pervert, incel overcoming his negative traits one by one in the first season. There is a reason why its an ISEKAI and not just some random transported to another world without any real backstory or reason. Rudeus is a man child that never grew up or had a chance to grow up being reborn in a world that will let him grow up, and he does. If normies can't handle good character development then so be it, I would rather have a better show than some trash tier "in another world with my smartphone" type anime, they can go watch their vending machines for all I care.
@Aspectioner Жыл бұрын
@@dickdickling9389 It wouldn't work without a 'developing' main character, not without a child molester. There are plenty of ways to develop a character without explicitly depicting him steal panties and sexually assault. Some degeneracy would have been absolutely fine, there's plenty of sex/gore in western media, but it has to be within reason. The first few episodes of Mushoku Tensei are beyond reason for most and ruin it.

What I also loved about the first season was how there was no stupid opening song wasting my time, instead we got these beautiful, atmospheric chorals, while showing the beautiful landscapes they travelled and some daily life interactions between the character's that don't need to be audible, but add a lot to the believability of the world. Good storytelling does not need to explain everything through words - I think this is a rather Western artistical approach most Anime completely fail at (most prominent example sadly being One Piece, after Oda became a father and obviously felt the need to explain every little nonsense, so every 6-year-old could follow).

Mushoku Tensei is what most well written books have: a world, a plot, and characters that act all act with consistency. This is brought you to by an author (and probably assistance) who really is a master at their craft. I don't even think other isekai anime/manga are trying to measure up to Mushoku Tensei in the slightest; a lot of them are trying to make a super quick buck (Crunchyroll financed), and a few are trying to carve out something a little deeper, but no one else is taking it as far. But good story telling does this: as you take in more of the story, you more so realize you're really only gleaning into a window of time in the universe having continuous problems rather than a simplistic "after this, it's happily ever after for the rest of eternity." Junni Kokki (12 Kingdoms) kind of qualifies as an isekai, and is also based off of books. I love it. Junni Kokki's central themes have to do with morality.

There have been other Isekai that have done this between the reincarnated MC and another child and those are totally fucked up imo. I wouldn't say this is new, but that time i got reincarnated as a slime is definitely up there with new gen GOOD isekais such as this one. Both animes came out at relatively the same time, and both definitely have the same qualities. World building, characters, animation, the only thing that might not be liked about it is how fast the mc becomes "op." Yes it is cool to see him humble characters who underestimate him, but i understand that a lot of people don't like that "he's overpowered for no reason and can beat any and everyone" type of gimick. Although that's not really what it is, some people may see it that way. After recently rewatching season 2 it's safe to say that Tensura (the anime) is top quality isekai and worth a watch. I think both Mushoku Tensei and Tensura have their flaws, which is why i juggle between which one is better.
@Dadude572 Жыл бұрын
Granted both MCs are overpowered in their respected worlds. Rudeus got humbled by the strongest person in their world while Rimuru got humbled by Mellim and Hinata before his big power boost, granted even after season 2 I hear he gets another insane power boost but I'm sticking to anime only for both. That being said Mushoku has a lot more personal drama and adventure elements while Tensura is a lot more slice of life and developing a country with the characters the mc met along the way. Since Tensura has a lot more characters I wouldn't say there isn't as much growth as a lot of characters stick to their tropes and honestly Rimuru doesn't change all that much personality wise throughout the series, it's more akin to a Re:zero category which has a lot of elements of mushoku but without an overpowered mc.
@corry.8500 Жыл бұрын
@@Dadude572 (anime s2 spoilers) That's also what i meant to say, Mushoku Tensei deals mainly with personal/real-life problems while Tensura is more of a fantasy. Obviously both are "fantasy" but Mushoku lets the MC go through current real life issues. And I think Rimuru building and developing a country is character development in itself, you can see that when they have their meetings and sometimes go back on memories at random times. I agree that there are too many characters to really see development in every one of them, and they do all stick to their tropes but i still think it stands at one of the top isekai. As i said before they're both different in their own way and have their own flaws which is why i cant decide which one is better. And i think he is a lot more skilled than what we seen in the anime, especially when he got humbled by Hinata he was still being nerfed by her barrier.
@dentangaji6161 Жыл бұрын
Tensura has a great world building and decent fight scene too but i feel like it is less engaging than Mushoku for some reasons. It feels like the MC effortlessly overcome any problems and obstacles. Because of that his character development seems miniscule. He also seems like to be the type of MC who is likeable by everyone too which make it all easier to him. The story also revolves around him making allies and building some sort of community made of non human that's getting bigger which leads to larger scale and then it turns into fantasy politics story. It's becoming less of personal journey and i heard that in web novel version, another other worlder by the name Yuki which is the main villain is getting defeated easily by Rimuru because at that point he is already too op (but i heard they change Yuki character to be less villainous in official) I legit getting more emotional in Mushoku Tensei during the time Rudeus miscalculation causing the demon's children getting killed by monster than when Rimuru found out Shion is dead. For me Rudeus just has more depth and complexity as a character and he legit struggle a lot even though he is considered to be prodigy both in mana and intelligence. Sorry for the long rant. I really trying to love this series but i just can't.

Not to mention Rudeus is just the story his perspective. The whole nover has a separate world building story called dragon tales and once Rudeus story come to an end its just ganna continue by another characters perspective.

It's just a trend, The OGs remember how saturated anime was in the 00s with generic shonen. It's the same now with Isekai. Mainly because a lot of trash Isekais shows are mediocre adaptations of really good mangas (ala, The Great Cleric or The Faraway Paladin) If you just go through the archive of 00s shonen, you'll see so many dull shonen, it'll blow your mind

Mushoku Tensei was a huge surprise to me. Season 1 was a very successful start for the anime. The world and characters were built perfectly, the story was interesting, and the production in the anime is 10/10 in all respects. But in season 2, which is released in this season, the anime took a different path, and the story, to be honest, is no longer as strong as it was in the first season. But despite this, Mushoku Tensei is still the best isekai anime for me, so far.

I love reincarnated as a slime, but it's not close, Mt is way better. Slime is probably the closest, but it falls behind quite a bit, side characters don't feel as real as they do in MT, they just exist in slime, but in MT, it feels like they actually have lives and are out doing their own things. Plus, the world itself doesn't feel as real as MT does, the world of MT is it's own thing and feels like a real place in a sense, whereas slimes world is built only by the characters we know, i guess i could say? i dont know how to explain it exactly, but i just wanna say again that i'm not hating on slime, it's probably my second favorite isekai, and the only one other than MT that i decided to pick up the LN for and actually read multiple volumes (as of now, i've read 20 volumes of MT and 8 volumes of slime). So, i agree that it can sometimes hold a candle to MT, but it doesn't surpass it any way, other than Rimuru being a complete badass sometimes, thats where it surpasses MT occasionally lmao
@Haiyami Жыл бұрын
nah I'm sorry I don't think That Time I reincarnated as a slime hold's a candle to Mushoku Tensei. The only one I've seen that does a decent job of shortening the gap is Ascendance of a Bookworm.
@Xx0ME0xX Жыл бұрын
@@Haiyami i really enjoyed that as well and plan on reading the LN eventually, it definitely does a better job than most isekai do, but based on just the anime, i wouldn't put it top 3 for me, maybe top 5 or 6. That could change with the LN though. Right now, it's just not as memorable even though it is a good story, but anime like MT, slime, spider, and re:zero are more memorable, but reading the LN may change that for me, since i did rate the first two seasons 9/10 and the third a 10/10.

For me this is an amazing anime because 1) Protagonist actually dies in real life so he don't have to care about real world anymore 2) he reborn as normal baby and slowly grows up which makes side characters really important 3) Due to his memories he acts like what you expect him to act after knowing about his previous life 4) there are no weird Loli or farry creature whose constantly screaming 5) He's power and whole power system is good Overall feels way way more realistic than other generic anime.
