As an avid fan of the manga, it was disappointing seeing Hell’s Paradise get pushed to the side in favour of Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, Vinland Saga, and other shows. While the animation certainly isn’t bad, and the story carries the anime more than enough, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that Hell’s Paradise got somewhat neglected simply because it’s following isn’t quite as big as JJK or CSM in the trio. It really could have been more than it was, even if what it currently is isn’t bad
@reso7675 Жыл бұрын
I kept up with the show (just watched the last episode about a hour ago, never read the manga, so the details were all new to me), and while I agree the show isn't bad, I think that the start of the show (let's say up to the Sagiri vs Gabimaru fight) was too great of an first impression compared to the rest of the show. Bringing up the mysticism of the island is kinda a moot point to me. Because I was already expecting it, because the synposis of the show, that convinced me to pick up the show in the first place, on places like Anichart already told me about some mysterious island where they're looking for an Elixir of Life. What I wasn't expecting the show to do was to have Gabimaru open up in the way he did at the beginning, and for Sagiri to respond in kind. That opened up the true interest of the show to me: are these worst-of-the-worst criminals as deemed by this shogunate more than they seem, and how will their monitors respond to their monitees? Ultimately, while some of these characters did have back stories revealed, I felt like there was no... OOMPH, for lack of a better word, to what we started out with.
@thecod2345 Жыл бұрын
I definitely can agree with the no oomph criticism. Compared to it’s two sister series, though starting off fairly strong, it feels extremely lightweight in impact. I mean from the start Gabimaru knows what he wants, is easily the strongest fighter of the bunch, and there’s little to no internal conflict. He feels essentially invincible and isn’t particularly emotionally affected by anything going on either. Regardless it still held interest with the slower more mystery focused facing near the beginning. Then the tensen showed up, which while it wasn’t bad, diminished the impact of the other criminals mucking around…..and then Gabimaru practically beat one into the ground solo on his first encounter. It just lacks any power behind anything beyond the beginning in my eyes. It’s a damn shame too because should the abilities of the characters have been more grounded and the focus been on the environment and paranoia with the Tensen only complicating an existing issue instead of being the big bads, then I could definitely have seen the show entertaining me like the others of the dark trio.
@karu Жыл бұрын
I feel like the oomph factor was supposed to be the Tensen. After building up the mystery throughout the first 6 eps, we've just begun to understand the real point of the anime. For me, the last few episodes (9-13) really solidified what the show was gonna be, plot-wise. That it isn't or was never a battle royale to begin with, but instead an anime about a group of criminals, who had nothing to do with each other at the beginning, now converging and trying to kill the big bad guys to survive. You can say it took the "traditional" shonen route rather than keeping with the mystery until the end, which prob scares away some people who preferred that. But I don't really mind it. The ability names were kinda cringy though lol i think they couldve done without it.
@reso7675 Жыл бұрын
@@karu I suppose that's really my fault for having started out the show with false impressions. If I had started out the show thinking this was a typical shonen, I could see myself thinking the Tensen (and the battles with them) would be the OOMPH. But after the start of the show sincerely took on the 'strength is having no emotions versus strength is being able to face your emotion' conundrum, I legitimately found myself asking while double checking the tags of the show, "Is this really a shonen? This material is something I expect out of a seinen." And so from that point on, I deluded myself into thinking this would be a seinen. Thought the show would head towards a more grounded direction. Allow me to repeat myself: that was just such a strong start to the show. First impressions make such a difference. Still, as lacking the rest of the show has, I'm still pretty excited for that second season. While one such as yourself would be more wary about fight scenes in the future, with my skin-deep knowledge, I'm considerably more interested in the factional chemistry: - The first party, the Tensen, who will probably now be on high alert because the humans have actually taken one of them down. - The second party, the original group of samurai and criminals, who have banded together for the sake of survival and bonded with each other beyond what the samurai's original task would have allowed for. - And the third party, the samurai reinforcement, who know what the samurai are supposed to be doing, who will probably see the original set of samurai to have defected to the criminals and/or sweet-talked by them. I await what comes next.
@tiagoferreira8467 Жыл бұрын
That lack of OOMPH factor for me, instead of being the story part which, although, was different from the battle royale, was more seen in the lack of impact of the more emotional ou hype scenes which felt a little barebones although i would atribute that to the soundtrack or to the direction.

I feel like I must finally be noticing how many shonen shows have very similar plot structures, wacky one note casts, some form of spiritual energy and extreme amounts of exposition. It also could be a result of me watching Heavenly Delusions at the same time, but GOD DAMN does this story love to exposition dumb at the most random and seemingly nonsensical times. IMO, Hell's Paradise is GOOD. I just watched all 13 episodes, back-to-back, in July' 2024, for the first time & it's easily one of the best recommendations. I am no ANIME connoisseur to tell anyone, but have been watching ANIME for over 20 years now, for a simple reason - Entertainment. That sense, it entertained me. Will watch it again? hell yeah! Am I waiting for season 2? You Bet!

sometimes i think that people who call the story mid when comparing it to jjk or csm, dont seem to realise that hp is a simple story (its not a flawless story either and thats ok, creating a perfect story is near impossible) and is not as complex as jjk or csm, a simple story can still be enjoyable

@@pirateluffy01as someone who has read the manga for all of those shows, I can confidently say that hells paradise is MUCH better than jujutsu kaisen(which I do think is enjoyable but mid). I however did enjoy chainsaw man a lot ( with the context of the full story, though; the first half was in fact kind of mid...) so I don't know how much my take can do for you.

I loved the concept, the idea, and I think it’s animated pretty well. The ONLY thing that got me a bit disappointed is… tengens. There’s no feeling of despair present, you know? These “gods” are in fact pretty vulnerable, leaving a very good chance for success to our mc. Tengens are not Darkness Devil from CM or Chimera Ants from HxH, or Pucci from JoJo. All these characters inflicted DESPAIR, leaving us to ponder, “Omg is it even beatable?” And when succeeded in defeating them, it unbelievable and shocking! Like wow! Will I feel the same when tengens are defeated? Definitely not…

I didn't expect JJK or CSM kind of animation, so i wasn't disappointed. Easy as that. Not every anime is gonna have that level of resources put into.
@Kittycanon3000 Жыл бұрын
A lot of the scenes in the anime felt akward and kind of slow but overall it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. I agree it could've been better but the animators have WAYYY too much on their hands rn. AOT, JJK and that new movie, its a lot of work😭 Ithink making hells paradise a masterpiece was the least of their worries

expectations surely had an impact on the way it was received overall... when the season started a lot of content creators on both YT and Tiktok were marketing it as part of the Great Dark Tior (or smth), combining it too much with jjk and chainsawman, hence people prolly had their expectations way too high to enjoy the show for what it is

*my ranking:* *1.hell’s paradise* *2.jujutsu kaisen* *3.chainsaw man(fucking overrated its dogshit)* *look the reason people call it mid is because mappa studios chose to animate and wrote jujutsu kaisen and chanisawman instead of hell’s paradise it doesn’t even have 1 fourth of jujutsu kaisen’s chapters if mappa studios chose to actually extend hell’s paradise’s chapters and stories then i can confidently tell you it will be better than chainsaw man*

As someone who has been watching anime for almost two decades, i would say hell's paradise is one of the few animes in the current era with a very unique premise. It doesn't have a mc trio. It doesn't have a male protagonist who goes gugu gaga over melons. The villains are very unique and interesting. The island refered to hells paradise and the mystery surrounding it is very catchy for me as a viewer. Also, the female characters are not over sexualised. The pacing of the story is just perfect as it does not take 50 plus episodes to beat just one villain character. The main characters are strong and so are the villain. There is space for character growth of every character featuring in the anime. And most of all, the female prota and the male prota has a very interesting fren-enemy dynamic without any romanticization. It's been a really long time since an anime like this caught my entire attention. I even read the manga and loved every bit of it.

I was one of the seemingly few people who thought that Chainsaw Man was not only over-hyped, but also kinda okay. I personally didn't like the 3D fights (it worked in Dorohedoro imo bc it was all 3D) and even when the manga was being hyped, I read it and was left with only a 'meh' feeling. Some of it was just outright forgettable to me. Even though the intro to Hell's Paradise was a bit unusual to me, I felt it was a much more solid manga, but they're pretty on par with each other overall. Here's where I get into 'controversial' territory. I think Chainsaw Man is like a new Evangelion. I didn't really like Eva, and thought it was kinda boring, but from my understanding of what I've heard from others, people like it because of how weird it is. I think the same is true for Chainsaw Man. They both take a decent story and add crazy psychological theories to it, and a large part of the reason why people enjoy both of these series is because they think the author is cool, quirky, or an oddball. To me, I don't judge a story by what's not in the story, but I know for some that knowledge of the author and their intent or life is what makes the stories great for them. Hell's Paradise is underrated, only because people trash on it so much when it just deserves to be enjoyed, and Chainsaw Man is overrated because people hyped it up so much and act like it's doing something entirely new when it's just another shonen with a unique twist. I'd say it's on par with Demon Slayer, which is a compliment from me, but it's not like Vinland Saga, One Piece, or Mushoku Tensei levels of good or originality. (feel free to use this as a video, and expand upon it, or even trash on my take. I just want more content ngl, and also wanna see what ppl think of my take, even if it's negative)
@bangabir27634 ай бұрын
As someone who read the manga, I'd say it's about as good as demon slayer. It's nothing era changing or revolutionary, just another good story(with a few plot holes here and there, but every anime/manga has that)

What drew me into the story was the mystical aspect of the series. It just looks so damn cool imo. I also love Gabimarus character and how despite seeming to be this dangerous and deadly killer, in the end of the day he’s a human being who just wants a peaceful life with his wife. And I think that part of the story is just so beautifully told. Usually shounen animes or animes in general like this are about the MC trying to become the best and most powerful or to achieve some sort of glory or crazy dream, but Gabimaru just wants to live a peaceful life with his wife. And I think that’s super refreshing to see.

imma be real, i really dislike how the anime community talks about "bad animation" or "bad drawings" cause it really always comes across as alot of ppl who like pretty colours and post production not knowing what they're talking about. There is basically no "bad animation" in modern anime. There definitely isn't any "bad animation" in Mappa productions. Ya'll are so spoilt and i think the anime industry should just start showing people what bad animation is instead of killing themselves to produce constant quality. N.B: it's okay to not like how the animation or drawings look, but if you don't know anything about the technical aspects of animation, just say you don't like it. Saying it's "bad" is very self inflating and disrespectful.

Go make a research on animation There is a reason why people hate Hell's paradise Yeah we spoiled b## a# mf you know why we also work our ass off and watch the shows in crunchy roll if the sh*r is bad then its bad. Hells paradise was bad adaptation and badly animated. You can't say that because you don't have proper research on that.

I still remember the character moments and noticed so many hints and beauty on the setting and environmental design of Hell's Paradise. The manga is just really good, the animation is pretty good but not good enough that it doesn't wow you with a perfect pacing. Another manga adaptation that is objectively good but I don't like it too much due to direction is Ancient Magnus's Bride. The manga took a world of pagan folklore and breath life into the pages. With charming moments of human and mystic creatures coexisting uneasily. It's full of imagination, intrigue, and showed the dangers of the arcane. The animation is beautiful pngs full of static shots. Not bad but not good either. The main character is kinda reserved, in the manga you are placed in her perspective and gets to be introspective with her. In the anime you lose patience at how slow they protray her because its all framed in 3rd person. Kind of the issue with anime adaptation, there needs to direction that fit your taste to beat the original source material.
