Uh, it had nothing to do with that. One sure fire way to get a girl with emotional issues even more attached to you is to get her interested or even better a sense of dependency on you and then to put distance from them. They will not stop thinking about you in a good light since you saved them and constantly helped them out. Ayanakoji is subconsciously associated with happy memories and her happiest moments, then abruptly pull that carpet out from under her and she will panic and only think/ chase after them. He's given a bullied, depressed emotinally scared girl an attachment disorder for him specifically on purpose. He did all of this purely to get her more attached to him so she wouldn't ever betray him. Nothing more.

You’re right that it was all part of his plan to use her, but similar to what the parent comment said he’s basically unable to feel much of his own emotion but understands empathy for others/like you’re implying he understands other people’s emotions well enough to manipulate them. Basically, the reason why he is able to manipulate kei or anyone is because he understands the concept of empathy, concern, etc. very well.

Classroom of the elite is one of the best series watched I didn't like Kei in season one but she grew on me as character in season two now I can see why LN readers like Kei as a character also i will always love Ayanokouji cause of his personality cause it's different and never changes also all character are well built

Haven't read the novel but if you think about it what he did protected her those girl weren't going to stop and he never blacked mailed Kei if I'm correct he blacked mailed the girls assaulting her which imo was actually smart because stopping them normally wouldn't had stop the bullying they would have continued if they weren't blackmailed the way he did. Her Falling for him you have to blame the anime they adapted the first season badly and basically made it seemed like Horikta was the main love interest which surprised me cause i though she was.

I do agree it's messed up. But it does exist. I think it's kinda similar to Stockholm Syndrome where Kei who is at breaking point, falls in love with person who 'saves' and 'protects' here. But I think unlike the other cases, in this case, Kei does not have to go through the struggles of hiding things and living a fake life in front of kiyotaka so she feels kinda at ease with him which prompts her love. Nevertheless, the romance atm is one-sided so I am not sure what's gonna happen on Kiyotaka's side later on. BTW I have only watched the anime.
