WHAT?! Color CHANGING Watercolors?! - Scrawlrbox Unboxing & Challenge

They're "colour changing" because the paints are actually made with dye! When dyes are highly concentrated and dried (like on the sheet), they take on a crystal structure and makes them shine a different colour! That's why they look a little metallic. You can see the same thing happen with highly saturated fountain pen inks too (which are also dye based)!

The violet is green because it's probably made using indigo die, which, when layered and dried, is green!

8:40 i haven't run into this issue with mine but the best way to stop it is avoid thick layers. when condensed tightly it turns back to the pan color, it's mean to be more dispersed. Make sure to thin it out so it can properly activate and not just stick to the paper

I love Sap Green for nature paintings. I had issues finding it when I did some acrylic painting so I went with “Hooker” Green instead, a good substitute but I laugh at the name every time. Anyone know how it came to be called that?

Kesey, you can use a white gel pen to reach the white outline around the character. It mostly helps to separate the foreground from the background when there are lots of similar color. Plus in this art piece it would make something like energy shield for your character, idk X))

I got a little too excited when i recognized your work in the Scrawlrbox. But yeah i was impressed with the Viviva watercolours vibrancy but also freaked out when they bled. They pick up soooo easily when dry too, i'm having the same issue with my winsor and Newton Cotman watercolour pans.

it's like concentrated powdered dye. As the powder, it's a colour but when you dip your brush in water, it turns another colour! it's very very cool

I have a purple hair color and one day I left a glob of it out accidentally and the outside turned a little thick and had that almost exact green shimmer look. It is very interesting

If you like green keep reading : Green has heavy association with DEATH. One time back in the 1800’s a German dye company and a led company got together and made a color so beautiful people started calling it Emerald Green . Well the reason it was so beautiful was because it was made with Arsenate , you know the stuff that kills you . They made EVERYTHING that color , name it and there is a 99% chance they made it . Well people started dying from that stuff , they would get open wounds or blisters that the green would get in and kill them . People kept in green rooms would die . Factory workers got sick , one worker got so sick she started throwing up green , the whites of her eyes turned green , and right before she dyed she said everything is green . So yeah have fun with that thought .

In fountain pen inks, when thick ink dries down they tend to "sheen" in a color opposite to it on the color wheel. Purple inks sheen green (see Diamine Velvet Rose), blue inks sheen magenta (Organics Studios Nitrogen), green inks sheen burgundy (Troublemaker ink Salome), red inks sheen Gold etc.
