This mosque was actually built by King Jamyang Namgyal for his beloved Balti wife, Rgyal Khatoon, not by Shah Hamdan. There are numerous sources that support this fact. Just coz some writers, like Gani Sheikh, attributed it to Shah Hamdan under the influence of Kashmir-centered politics doesn’t make it true. It's important to consider multiple sources and not just accept biased narratives. Furthermore, the Shey mosque is not even the oldest mosque in Ladakh; there are references to mosques in villages like Chuchot that are older.
