Kashmir touristic areas are never under stress. You will always hear such incidents in Kashmir (some selected areas) because of its political positioning. It's sad. But don't go by the news, talk to localities there they will tell you more accurately. When we planned at that time also there were news (such news have always been there) but we spoke to localities and trusted them and we enjoyed every bit of it. This year Kashmir is seeing a flood of tourists, so you could have also visited instead of getting negatively influenced by media.
