Well, Kaspersky seems like a solid product. I use the free Windows Defender and am kind-of happy with Defender. The only problem I had is some annoying PUP or maybe virus kept running a harmless script that kept popping up a window (it was a corrupt AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AutoIt3.exe file) and I had to delete the Autolt3 file by hand and remove the registry entries. Not sure Kaspersky would have found this, maybe it would have. I think Norton actually is the strictest AV program around.

Had a dream I got a virus from accidentally tapping on a gif. It gave me first hand experience and I got concerned about how safe my phone was. One time, irl, something got in and I had to hope a factory reset cleared it.

Am also among those who know that mainstream security solutions are only meant to combat mainstream malware, these work hand in hand like soap washing out regular dirt and grease. Pretty sure millions of people that use any of the bought full security software on the market, still have malware that will never be detected , made by people who really know the ins and outs of machine code, not just scripting. Windows10 itself is a big pile of malware but we're fine with it for the most part.

Windows Defender lockdown in the other hands blocks literally anything on the attack surface.

im really happy with kaspersky, was a hard decision, but i renew the subscription and upgraded from internet security to the cloud protection now, but there is one thing that i would like to see here, the home user products are more like... It's funny I used to use Kaspersky in the mid-2000's based on a recommendation from BestBuy (in the US). I moved away from it when the UI and system usage became a little out of wack. Plus I got convinced that Window's Security (in the early 2010's) was good enough and free!!! Great results here but for reason's explained, I can't use it. I am instead going for Leo's native Britain and Sophos!! Cheers!

I been using kaspersky since 2010 - not because i did a lot of research but because it what we used to use at work… during the years i did migrate to other sw, namely bit defender and malwarebytes premium, yet somehow i always end up back at kasperky. Instead of the if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, my methodology was more along the lines of “if it ain’t bothering me, i ain’t replacing it”. On another note been running my operating system since 2014 without having to ever reinstall it. Which is new record for me, no doubt having to do with good malware protection in place.

Happened to me one time, couldn't even open file explorer ahaha, you just must restart the system as Kaspersky completely blocks everything that might open something. That's very useful and never failed me

​@@PYROMANIAN777 Well I used ESET on 3 desktop systems and 2 phones, and while I have never seen an issue on the phones I have had a few issues with the desktop systems. On 1 system there has been times it would go into a loop of finding a file (not installed) as some generic virus (its RAS) and I have on multiple times made an exception for it. But for some reason after several months it starts detecting the file again even though it's still listed as an exception so I have to remove the exception and then make it an exception again (a minor issue). But the worst issue I have had is when it would use up to 20% of the CPU (on an 8 core 4.5 GHz CPU) but it would lock the system up where I was unable to use or load applications without anything found. This could last 10-15 mins and was intermittent when it would occur (although I did notice it seemed like it happened more when I used a VPN) this happened 1-2 times a week and I never found a fix (this happened on 2 of my systems). So I have seen on many occasions that Kaspersky was highly rated so I'm giving it a shot (2 year license) so far (16 days) no issues that have not been corrected by learning how to use Kaspersky different to ESET. To be honest I prefer the ESET interface, but that could be just that I have used it ~8years.

I had once upon a time used GlassWire, but i found it very simple, it's my opinion. :) And that's why i opted out using it. As a second layer of protection, i prefer OSArmor, and it does its job very well if we adjust its settings in advanced part, too. If you ask me for Glasswire compatibility with KIS 2021,i can give you incompatibility list of its official site : support.kaspersky.com/us/15516#block1 You can look up Glasswire from this list for compatibility issues.. I hope this helps you for your decision. But as i said, I would recommend OSArmor free version 1.4.3. After this version OSArmor was made paid product.. If you look for 1.4.3 free version (free version latest one), I can upload that file and send its link,too..Or you can find 1.4.3 free version in internet,too.. Take care..

The only thing I don't really like about Kaspersky recently is their being a bit pushy about extras like Safe Money, VPN, or their password manager. Things that are of no help to the most basic home users that only need a good protection suite that does its thing. An upside is that one can still install Kaspersky Internet Security without having to register any account.

Not really pushy, in the first place you can choose to not install Password Manager, easily uninstall VPN, and disable Safe Money too in the settings.

I think I would replace the Safe money feature with parental control for the "useless" list,as banking monitoring is a money guard and most of the users won't have kids to just randomly click on the AV,they would most probably just jump right on Chrome and search like Kizi or Y8(at least when I was a kid,nowadays they would most probably just insist on their parents to buy Among Us)

Yes, it's been since 2018 and already grew into multiple countries, audited, GDPR compliant, and a lot more initiative. However, their HQ is still in Moscow and even though they will not process personal data they will comply with any legal request (limited and only to the country-level) include Interpol and Europol which they're cooperated with, they have no warrant canary either (Swiss policy won't really save you if you're in another side of the world), at least no criminal will ever using AV products like this.

Don't get Norton,there are better alternatives, ranging from Avira to Kaspersky (by that I mean Avast,Eset,Bitdefender, McAfee and Malwarebytes)

I'm using Kaspersky for 10+ years now and it's because I've had some kind of infection on my main PC that I bought very recently and spend a lot of money on but couldn't use anymore because of that infection which caused the PC to Blue Screen immediately before I got the chance to do anything and the same thing happened to my new laptop the moment I turned it on and had it connected to my network, so at that point I had 2 brand new computers that couldn't even startup into Windows anymore and it took them 3 months to come up with a fix which I had to download somewhere else and burn it onto a bootable CD or USB stick, that was a Linux based system that eventually got both of my computers back up and running again without going into the BSOD every single time I tried to startup my systems. This happened years ago and since then I have been using Kaspersky Security Software on all of my systems and never wanted to change it because I've tried a lot of other anti virus software back then and none of those were able to come up with a fix except Kaspersky, and because of me trying the many other anti virus software and got an impression how those systems worked and how the user interface was made etc. I liked the Kaspersky software the most just from the UI perspective alone but them being the only company that was able to fix my computers the choice was easy to make. And over the years that I have my trusty Kaspersky Security Software installed on my computers I never had any computer virus or malware problem anymore so there is no incentive for me to even think about changing to something else, another thing is that when you're finally know all the different settings, features and have it tuned the right way it will become harder and harder to get familiar with a different security system and that's highly unlikely that I ever want to do that... Conclusion: Kaspersky Security Software is great to have, it has a very good reputation and track record, fixed both of my personal computers that I couldn't use anymore or get fixed with any other security software and in my case they earned it to have me as a lifetime customer which is what I am of course.
