I've been using this foundation for a year now and I've just stumbled onto this trick with the update on the primer on the Sephora site and if you mix the primer in with the foundation it turns it into a lighter formula that is absolutely transfer proof, takes away the cakey factor, doesn't settle into fine lines or accentuate pores, and the amount of primer you mix in allows you to dictate the coverage and the finish of it. This really made me fall in love with this foundation even more and now I don't even recommend using the foundation without the primer mixed in. And you can also still use the primer regularly as well as mixing it with the foundation without increasing your chances of getting oily as well as being able to change the formula to your liking based on what you're feeling day to day. It is life changing when it comes to making this foundation work. I had started searching for others because I loved the shade but hated how thick, cakey and heavy the formula was, but now I can make it however I want. And I highly recommend using a pore filling primer underneath if you have large pores because using that trick and adding a smoothing primer makes a serious dream team.

This is my favorite foundation. I have very textured, acne prone, oily skin and what I do to make it flawless is for primer I use the benefit porefessional and for powder I use the tarte smooth operator amazonian powder. This combo makes my makeup perfect and last well over 16 hours with little oil.

I'm an oil slick after 5 minutes. I love this foundation. I use a damp beauty blender to apply this. Even when I get super oily, the foundation doesn't separate or bunch up. It still looks great. but that's just me.

Definitely recommend playing around with this foundation some more. I've found you have to use way less, apply with a beauty blender type of sponge and realllllly blend. It's a lot of effort but can come out amazing. xx

my best advice with this foundation/primer combo is to mix the two together! 1:1 ratio. it makes it a lot less cakey and it doesn't crease as much. and mixing doesn't impact the coverage all that much!

I have oily skin and I use this foundation daily over top of my hourglass primer. I've got to say I had high expectations for this foundation. However, I find that is creases so badly around my mouth and makes my pores stand out more. After a few hours, when I come back home from college and have a look at the mirror, I can see how the foundation has moved around my nose, even thought I always set it with a powder. I am really disappoint to be honest, I makes me to like I have wrinkles, huge pores and it does makes me oily.

Nikka, You used too much one pump, if you use a brush wet it with spray of MAC. Also. use the WAYNE GOSS method, take a tissue place over makeup sponge, and blot especially around the nose and where pores get visible!

I tried this foundation. I have mega oily skin, my nose gets shiny half an hour after foundation application and my pores are huge. Said that, I have no texture problems with it because I only use half a pump. It's enough to have a good application on the entire face. I avoid dense brushes, I apply with a stippling brush and that makes wonders. 🙂

yeah the lock it foundation is definitely one where less is more, I had the same thing with texture when I used it full coverage. and I dont have much texture, my skins quite good. so I really didn't like it as a full coverage foundation but I find its a good one to thin out/mix with or use a really small amount of for a light/medium coverage (Like, not even a full pump for my entire face). I find if its thinner the oil comes through a little faster, and its one of those where it looks better after a few hours.

Try using a beauty blender or a beauty sponge to apply it. That's how I apply it and I don't have problems with it settling in my smile lines and wrinkles on my forehead like I did when using a brush

I went through the same thing.. I'm oily combo n i was devastated when i tried using it after the 1st time! i didn't give up on it n after more than 3 times of trying to convince myself that i used it the wrong way n wrong product i managed to stop the texture n pores area problem. i used to use it with damp beauty blender but now with sigma Flat kabuki n baked my face with rcma. for primer i use benefit porefessional n always moisture my face 1st n finish it off with UD deslick setting spray..

I have normal to slightly dry skin and I love this foundation! I find it is actually one of the best foundations in terms of minimising my pores. I wear this everyday mixed in with my Nars Sheer Glow. And it's vegan which is a huge plus :)

I just recently tried this foundation and got an combination/ oily skin. Also every foundation tend to show dry flakes on my forehead which I don’t have. But this foundation must be the first one (I wouldn’t call UD one and done a foundation) to not show any dry bits on my forehead and it just looks like skin! Though I wore it with no powder I got oily in my T-zone, my nose more than the rest of my face. Though I love it and have bought my first own bottle now! I also got enlarged pores and I did find this to minimize the look of pores. Totally a new holy grail high end foundation!

I also had a huge amount of texture show up on me with this foundation as well. I began mixing it with some elizabeth arden so it wouldn't go to waste. I DO love the primer but truly it is nothing that I don't find with even the elf matte balm. I had super high expectations as well. After about 7 hours my oils broke thru. When I mix it with the EA it is a little better but right now I am reaching for the UD all nighter foundation more. I am quite a bit older than you at 49 but I am lucky and have very few wrinkles aside from my ugly turkey neck since I've lost 129 pounds since 2015.

I've already commented on this foundation. I'm glad I'm not the only one that had issues with it. No matter how I applied it or what primers I used (normally Benefits POREfessional and Coola's Daydream Mineral Primer which is my FAVORITE primer) I still had issues with cakey-ness and the product settling into lines and pores. Now, just to let you know, at the end of your video I could see your pores without you zooming in, and I've never seen that before. If you have never tried the Coola Primer, you should. After 20 years of trying to find a mattifying and pore minimizing primer, I received a sample in my Birchbox one day, and I've never gone back! Oh, and it's SPF 30 (which I love)! I have this foundation and I've found that drenching my face in Mac Fix+ and then going in with a pore minimizing primer really helps. It's also better to apply this foundation with a beauty blender. It helps sheer the product out a little bit, but it still has that full coverage look.

I'm obsessed with this foundation, its my holy grail, i own 4 different shades, lol, but the key is less is more. I only use 1 pump or less. anymore than that and you get serious cake face. And mixing the foundation and the primer is magical. I have very dry skin and this technique helps a lot. Make sure to set it as well! This foundation needs to be set.

Mixing this foundation with primer is a game changer. I mix it with the becca backlight priming filter because I have dry skin and 😍😍😍 I love the lightest shade, its a bit too dark still on me but it's so much better than most foundations. I found a thicker formula on my skin works wonders, smooths over my nose and chin soo well.

Thank you for all of your oily skin reviews! I am quite a bit older then you with oily with very large pores and a few more wrinkles🙂 and I love this foundation in the summer. I love this because it is so full coverage that I can use the lightest layer of foundation and still get coverage. You have to work with a tiny amount and use a beauty blender. Apply it very very sparingly. Oh and I use a pore filler with all foundations except for bb creams.

I have normal to dry skin depending on the season. The first time I tried this foundation I gasped!!! Because my skin is normal to dry it was very hard to blend out. It clung to the dry areas on my face and cracked immediately. Every fine line on my face became craterous (is that a word? LOL) but I did find a way to make it work! I mixed a half a pump of the foundation with 1-2 pumps of Becca shimmering skin perfector in the shade Opal and it worked fabulous!

I'm an oily skinned girl as well, so I LOVE seeing your reviews :) I work at a local Ulta, and was directed to try the Smashbox Studio Skin 15 hour hydrating foundation from a guest that swore by it. Nikkia, long story short, it's the best foundation I've ever tried for many reasons. Oil control is impeccable but the fact that it's exercise and humidity resistant is EVERYTHING! IT DOES NOT TRANSFER OR BREAK UP even around my nose. Please review this product if you haven't already, I'd love to hear and see your reaction! xoxo

I had the same results, it looked like I was wearing a mask and I looked pasty. I had the largest pores using this. I will try to mix it with a primer next time. I may be a little oilier than you are. It was my second time using it, but I can't take it back since I purchased it in April. I haven't found a foundation that doesn't transfer yet.

What face wash/cleansers do you recommend for oily skin/giant pores? I was using a Glamglow hydrating one for a while (which did actually help with a bit of the oil production and definitely shrunk my pores) so I switched to the supercleanse one which is for oily skin but it's a bit too harsh, giving me clogged pores and dry skin, especially in the crease area between my chin and lower lip. I have a sample of Chantecaille Rice and Geranium Foaming Cleanser which is meant to help control sebum but it usually takes me a week or two before my skin adjusts to a new cleanser to figure out if it's going to be suitable. Any ideas?

I actually use KAT von D eye primer on where I use concealer on top of my regular primer ( L’Oréal matte) and it makes any concealer or foundation stay on your most troubled areas all day and truly vanishes pores!!! I just tried it when I was fiddling around and it has been my secret for years ( I use the eye primer stick and they sell it for 7 dollars at tj max...... it’s truly amazing) To be honest my favorite foundations are always the ones that are watery especially with my pores.... my favorite foundation is hands down bare minerals (their glow one along with their powder foundation or to go cheaper I use L’Oréal pro matte it’s really amazing but I like this better than the urban decay)

Nikki, I found out from a Sephora worker that you are supposed to use her primer as a mixing base. So I do one pump KVD and one pump primer and fix on my paw palette, and it worked so much better.

KatVonD is my favorite foundation. In one hour it will look better. In 6 hours it will look protect like your most tender, young, soft skin. The foundation is so thin, can't see it at all. But it covers all my problems. Make me look 10 years younger. I can't live without it. I take a lighter shade than I need. But after 20 minutes it is not noticeable. I just look whiter and younger for this reason. This foundation is magical. To understand this, you need to try to use it.

I have got that with the Laura mercier foundation does that to me it stays in plays but shows so much texture for me under my eyes and cheeks that's it

I purchased this foundation recently but I'm having trouble around my nose area, the foundation sort of "wears off" and settles into my pores - picture that, it looked like there's so many skin-colored holes on my pinkish red nose (my nose area gets red easily). Any advice for that? I think it's the oil that made it that way (I have oily T zone). I used the POREfessional primer too but it doesn't work on my nose that well. I'm still figuring out how to overcome that. Not sure if you'll see or reply this but I'll be SO thankful if you do! I LOVE your videos they're so informative and detailed. I love the coverage with this foundation, but it just won't sit on and around my nose 😕 I use Nyx marshmallow primer, and tried leaving it off, which did help a tiny bit, but the foundation still breaks up almost instantly 🙄 especially on my forehead. I have wrinkles on my forehead, on my chin and under my nostrils, where the foundation really creases. I do use setting powder, but I have to touch it up throughout the day to stop the oil from breaking further down. Its really pretty, but I do have some concerns... I have extremely oily skin, took me years to get skincare just right, especially considering that make up was going on top of it, but I think I have it down now 😅 I will keep using this foundation, as I haven't found the perfect one yet.

In the beginning I couldn't handle this foundation bc it was my first experience with a full coverage foundation but now I learned how to play with it and now I realized it has a beautiful dewy matte finish and it works better with the kat von d primer

I love your reviews! My skin type is more on the combo side, and as someone who loves looking full coverage, I had very high expectations for this foundation. At first I loved it, but the more I use it, the more my pores and fine lines stand out no matter how good my skincare routine is or no matter how I apply it. I love Kat Von D's other products so I'm disappointed about my thoughts with this one. For foundation I'm good with my Urban Decay All Nighter:)

Beauty sponge! Applying this foundation with a brush made it look way too cakey on me and it settled into my pores and lines. Using a sponge made a huge huge difference!!

I've been using kat von d foundation for about a week and I never had any problems with texture. then again I don't use a brush to apply my foundation. I feel like it could have something to do with how you applied it. hope this helps :)

Thanks for doing these reviews! I'm having trouble finding foundation that doesn't separate on my face. I work evening shifts in a path lab so we have to have the air con going 24/7 and I swear that doesn't help my makeup either! If you were after ideas for more foundations to try, a good one might be the Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation. It is stocked in Mecca in Australia. I might try it out myself but omg that price tag!!!!
