Seeing the few public and judges talking each other, almost nobody really taking attention towards a champion performing, means that karate world have still to teach a lot...

Apparently over the years, kata competitors like this turned a 1 minute kata into a 2.5 minute kata. And the judges rewarded them for it. Thankfully now the judges have decided to start reversing that.

Mi piacerebbe vedere chi commenta Valdesi cosa sa fare.. Qui si tratta di un pluri campione del mondo. Posizioni ineccepibili, Mobilita' esemplare.. Non dondola mai, non prende rincorse fin troppo viste. Tecnicamente uno dei migliori.

so many haters? Nobody is perfect of course, but instead of saying how bad his techniques are, why not see where he is good at and copy how he does it? There is always room for improvement, and of course that goes the same with Luca Valdesi. A few mistakes can always be improved on, yet the haters just bring him down so much. Why?

Beacuse they now they'll never be as good as Luca is. And less being a world champion (11 times). Gojushiho Sho is a very long kata and very difficult, even for Luca. I want to kow if those who say he is bad doing the kata do it better than him.

GOJUSHIHO SHO is one of the longest shotokan kata & Luca Valdesi performed very well! Everything was correct, but sometimes rear leg was little bent! But with his fighting face & fighting techniques show us why he is a world karate champion!!

Greetings to all Hanshi Shihans Sensei I am glad to see and read what I have said for years about the above karateka .With all do respect he has always cut moves in the kata to seem like he is fast when in actuality he is not he is very stiff in his movements. He should be growing each time he performs kata maybe he has not achieved the true essence of what funakoshi sensei meant when he said to seek perfection of character. I pray he continues to develop into a great Martial arts .

OK he is a good athlete, but just try to compare his kata with Masatoshi Nakayama's kata, or Hirokazu Kanazawa's, or even Tatsuya Naka's. Luca isn't that good, bad hikite and poor technique.

Is this not Go Ju shiho dai?
@wadejenkins1825
@wadejenkins1825 7 жыл бұрын
Faheem Mahomed Yes, it is Goju Shiho Dai if you are from SKIF, Kanazawa's organization. Kanazawa says years ago a Shotokan master did a demonstration of Sho and called it Dai on accident, or vice-versa. Since then he says everyone got it backwards, but he kept the original names. I'm not sure who is right, but his argument makes sense if you watch the katas. Traditionally Dai katas have more simplistic, powerful hand techniques, whereas Sho katas are more intricate and complex.

I saw many mistakes. I personally have never liked how western cultures have taken the original application of the Kata and changed it. It's one thing to question what each technique within the Bunkai would actually be used against... it's another thing to mess with the timing and execution of each technique within the Kata. If you can't tell, I come from a traditional Shotokai dojo. I know that people want to look fancy and flashy during a competition, but I find it to be arrogant that we feel the need to try to change something that has been around and perfected for hundreds of years before us. Anyway, despite all his flash and trash, I am not impressed. I cannot take anybody seriously as a "Black Belt", who can't start and end on the same spot when performing the Kata. That's one of the first things that I learned from an early age, and it's a big deal in regards to Kata. A true Black Belt learns in the beginning of his training the importance of timing and distance. You learn that each step should be the same (depending on the kind of step you are taking), but if you are doing 10 stepping punches, each step should cover the same amount of distance as the last one. This is something that is fundamental and is taught (or should be) when you are a White Belt. This personally makes me question the rest of his training all the way up till the current. I know no one on this earth is perfect, but in Karate one of the things we seek is PERFECTION... that is why in traditional Karate we train and perform just one technique hundreds of times at a time. When you do this you acquire "muscle memory" and your body can feel and automatically knows how a move is supposed to feel, when you do it right. If you perform techniques or Katas enough times, your body automatically just sinks into the proper alignment. The Kata this man did looks nice to someone who doesn't truly know what they are doing, but to a trained eye, he still has a lot to reflect/improve upon.

OMG another like minded karateka. I trained in the past with a traditional minded sensei who did not like the westernization and changes being made to karate. I studied Goju-Ryu but he taught us the original way taught to him by his sensei that learned directly in japan/from a japanese instructor in the 50s-70s. It took me 8 years to receive my black belt but even as a brown belt was equivalent to a 6th dan black belt from the many flashy and sloppy technique schools that ditched tradition. Even today I nitpick when I see so many mistakes from supposed advanced practitioners and feel bad due to the damage in reputation karate has suffered as a whole mainly due to bad instruction and all the changes made for no good reason. Regarding your point of finishing a kata in the same spot where you started, YES! I can't believe how many of these people don't do them properly. I learned that rule as a white belt.

Osu. It brings joy to my heart, to know that I'm not the last one out there (outside of Japan) that feels this way. It's too bad that more don't feel the same way about the Art. My Sensei, Grandmaster "Rick Lenchus" was training in Traditional Shotokai Karate in the 50's. His Sensei was a direct student of O'Sensei "Gichin Funakoshi". Since then he has acquired the rank of 10th Dan (as high as you can go), and we went back to Japan in 2007 to train with his Sensei who is still alive and teaching traditional Shotokai Karate-Do. I teach Shotokai Karate, and I teach the old way only. Osu.

Head Minerve I understand that every country and every generation for that matter has it's own take on a Kata. With this understood, despite their take on a Kata, certain things should hold true in regards to the Kata. These things are TECHNIQUE and TIMING and DISTANCE. I personally find it interesting to see other's interpretation of a Kata's application. I myself have experimented and discovered many different applications for each technique within all the Katas, all the way from Heian Shodan all the way to Gojushihosho. There is nothing wrong with that. My problem lies with the unpolished technique and timing of those who perform Kata. Whatever their interpretation of the Kata is, their technique and timing and distance should remain the same. Like I said before, if you are doing 10 stepping punches, each step should cover the same amount of distance as the last one. I also stand firm with my stance on not being able take anybody seriously as a "Black Belt", who can't start and end on the same spot when performing the Kata. It remains a fact that rings true, that a Karateka should always end on the same spot that they started. If one does not like the rules, and traditions of something that has been established, refined and practiced for hundreds of years before them, then maybe they should start their own thing, a new martial art maybe. But one should NOT tamper with and bastardize an Art that has already been established. It is disrespectful... and the Martial Arts is all about RESPECT.
@shimoda3339
@shimoda3339 8 жыл бұрын
Head Minerve You should stick to commenting on the videos, and NOT guys who have been doing TRADITIONAL Martial Arts since they were 4 years old... and still doing/teaching it. Humans are creatures that get bored quickly and seek out new forms of entertainment. Nothing is safe from this fact... including the Martial Arts. This is obviously the case with Kata these days. Your opinion means nothing to someone who associates and trains with old school Martial Artists, who are far more experienced and knowledgable than you and 99% of the other people who sadly mistake themselves to be REAL Martial Artists, who's opinions matter more than those who are authentically REAL Martial Artists. Your attempt to try to put me in my place and make it seem like your opinion matters more than my experience, history, time surrounded by Martial Artists that are considered living legends of the Martial Arts is cute. I grew up surrounded with Martial Artists that are VERY accomplished. Much more than your Valdesi could ever dream of. MY Sensei is Grandmaster "Rick Lenchus". Because of this I grew up around/trained with people like Grandmaster Aaron Banks, Grandmaster Joe Onopa, Grandmaster Ron Van Clief, Ronald Duncan, and others... but you keep believing that your opinion matters to someone like me.

Damien Dimone Still stalking my life I see. That's funny that you are trying to call out other people. The funniest thing is when someone like you, only has a video of you swinging and missing a bag more times than you hit it. Look for the wind up... and the miss! You're pathetic, and REALLY should stick to being a troll on things that aren't my wheelhouse and expertise. You clearly don't have sufficient experience, as you can't even hit that ball that is stationary and can't move around you or hit you back. I already offered to meet you at any gym in NYC to teach you a lesson, to be careful who you try to troll or call out... but you still haven't accepted. I wonder why? Maybe it's because you won't have anything to say, once you are humiliated in front of a bunch of people. Like I said, I see right through you. You are all talk, and can't back up your tough-guy talk. You pretend to be a "fighter", but you have never fought anybody that actually was a fighter. You're a good troll though.
