There are many ways to sheath the sword. There is one method in iaido I like since in minimizes the touching of the blade. He just showed one way. Ninjutsu is that they incorporate what works and makes themselves more efficient. One reason I love it :)

I pinch with my 2 knuckles just next to my fingertips. A little with the thumb on the side on the knuckle.

Wow, that helped quite a bit, and I see what you mean by the natural finger placement. Great video.

Thanks for the video, NinjaLearningNetwork! One question: Does noto have to be preformed using the farther end of the blade? How about running it across the entire blade?
@peacefulmind31911 жыл бұрын
Noto can be done any direction, but is always done after chiburi. I will say this demo was the first I have seen of this style of noto.

great video, love all of it, i got a question, so what if my hand is too small for that pinching part? do you have any other way to put the sword back in?

Really nice video. Sheathing the sword this way has worked best for me. I've been in Shudokan Karatedo for a while and have seen a lot of methods. None have worked out as well as this. And I know what your going to say, "Shudokan means open hand" but they have sword class as well. By the way, what is the difference between Ninjutsu and Ninjitsu?

There will be sword to skin techniques including noto. So learning how to handle a sword correctly is very important. And as explained by NinjaLeanringNetwork, the oils from your skin will affect the metal so always clean your blade after practice. Good luck : )

@Naisho07 And Shotokan was Soke Funakoshi's pen name when writing poeitry, the translation is "House of Whispering pine" neat huh.

I have a question for you, sensei Roemke. I always hear "never touch the skin of the blade!" So that little pinch you do is generally acceptable then? Sword etiquette can be confusing! :)

@NinjaLearningNetwork Sensei Roemke : Would it be more appropriate to recieve a blade from your master rather than to purchase one from a site/market
@tresmcneil13 жыл бұрын
Hey Sensei Roemke, I am a black belt in Kyokushin and am looking to expand my knowledge of the martial arts, and the katana was a weapon that has always intrigued me. I own two myself and have had a couple lessons on the basic strikes, but your videos were the first time that I actually put the blade on my side, and I can't seem to keep it there. The sword often feels awkward on my belt and sometimes produces pain on my hip, and it always slides down or does not align with my belt. any ideas?
@darksideblues1357 жыл бұрын
Get a proper obi. Place the sword above your hip between your pelvis and rib cage. Make sure the obi goes around three times and place the saya between the closest wrap to your body and the Middle wrap. Make the obi tight.

@Naisho0714 жыл бұрын
@TKOTaylor, only difference in the "Ninjutsu and Ninjitsu" is the spelling. You can call it either. I believe you mean "Shotokan" karate. Shotokan does not mean empty hand as in "kara" "te" but actually was the name of the dojo where the karate was taught in Tokyo. The founder was Master Funakoshi of the Okinawa Islands. Regardless of other arts, there is nothing wrong in studying the sword. Just be careful and enjoy : )

I subscribe to your video you have very good pointers and teach in a way that ppl not trained can understand i was watching to see the difference between your style and the style i have learned bc i to have trained and studied in Japan but i have studied kenjutsu witch as u know is the method or technique of the word opposed to the more modern practice of kendo witch is the way of the sword. Anyways good videos i look forward for more.

Thats all well and good but when it's illegal to own an iaitō (without being in a club, which I'm not as I can't seem to find any in my area) and all you have to practice is a shinken, it's kinda hard not to look.

I though the iga and khoga used ninjato the short straight blade sword so its easier to pull over the back the katana was used by samurai please correct me if im wrong
@marcdevereux82678 жыл бұрын
In the days of the iga and khoga the ninjato didn't exist, it is a 20th century invention along with the black gi. traditionally the shinobi would take a katana and shorten the blade from the tip of about 4 inch and keep the saya the original length for a faster draw and to deceive the enemy.

iaitō are not illegal as far as i know. Just go to a martial-arts store in your area, because any good martial-arts store should have them. it is not recommended to start training with a sharp sword, and if you can't find any iaitō, start with a bokken like everybody else does.
