It seems Zuko's got 4 paths here, from what I can see: -The siege succeeds, Zhao captures Aang and he's brought to the Fire Nation. Zuko has no hope to come back from this, unless Aang escapes himself; even then, Zuko will likely be in worse standing with the Fire Nation than he already is. -The siege fails, but Zuko does not capture Aang. Zuko has lost everything; while he still has hope, his chances are thin and it will take time and luck for him to rebuild his strength. -Zuko somehow captures Aang and evades Zhao. He's now stuck in the North Pole likely outside of the city, and Katara, Sokka, and possibly Pakku are still likely out there. His fate is uncertain, and his situation is perilous. -Zuko takes charge of the siege, but does not capture Aang. While the battle is lost, Zuko now has likely earned some respect from the Fire Nation military. He's in a better position than ever to capture Aang. I wonder what will happen...

@hirvale4 жыл бұрын
@the baron [SPOILERS] These are all just theories here, but I think the fact that there was never an all out war between the Southern Water Tribe and the Fire Nations contributed to their eventual loss. I think from the start the South never had as much development and Infrastructure as the North but they must have still had walls and fortifications. The way the fire nation dealt with the south was launching small raids little by little until they had no strength of opposition. So the only way the North could have assisted the South was by mounting their own attack towards the fire nation, which I think they didn't want (they seem to be very isolationist, not dealing with the fire nation until they were at their doorstep). That, or the fire nation barred most communication between the 2 tribes, making it hard to communicate their situation or mount a coordinated attack (they didn't even know the fire nation had had a change of uniform). I'm guessing overtime, as the fire nation captured more and more waterbenders, the Southern water tribe's ice structures had no one to maintain them and eventually succumbed to blizzards, leaving only small manageable huts. That's my guess, at least.
@hirvale4 жыл бұрын
@@shadowmahesh9876 Yes but you can't underestimate the amount of men the south lost to the fire nation. There were legit less than 50, maybe 100 people left in the tribe and I'm guessing most of the men were raised to wield a spear, not a hammer.

Katara did have that waterscroll from the pirate episode to practice with, so she would have advanced compared to the last time we saw her fight. Also Katara is the last waterbender in the southern tribe, so it's not that they have waterbenders to build buildings and stuff like the northern, they gotta do it all by hand, so they just got some little igloos. There are more reasons too, but that'll come up later I think, so I'm not spoiling it.

The Southern Water Tribe was made up of several villages, spaced out across the South Pole. Sokka and Katara's village was just one of them. It was one of the biggest, however. Book 3 gives more details and shots of the South in it's prime. When you read North and South as part of your series on the comics, you'll see. The South was also originally a colony of the North, and there is some prejudice because of that. The South is still technically ruled by Yue's dad. The sitch is similar to the British Commonwealth (Canada, Australia).

Still felt weird seeing aang having pretty big difficulties at it after we saw aang being natural talent in the water scroll episode.
@val88694 жыл бұрын
Bendaonfire007 yeah, but it’s also not completely out of left field either. situations like this happen irl all the time, such as when a “gifted” student reaches a higher difficulty and suddenly isn’t gifted anymore. plus, air and water are very similar elements, so it’s to be expected that it would come easily to him at first, but that doesn’t mean it all will. katara’s sheer determination and willingness to learn (along with being naturally powerful) is why she was able to pick up water bending so fast once she had a proper master. I honestly believe she’s just a much a prodigy as aang, she just lacked someone to guide her, whereas aang had the monks.

I saw another theory that he realized he lost the love of his life because he was so stubborn and thought women couldn’t be equal in bending. He tried to change his ways because he lost someone he deeply cared about, not because “Ah this kid is related to the girl I liked 60 years ago”. So really, thank you so much for the extra work! Edit; Also I think we weren't as invested in Yue and Sokka as in Sokka and Suki is because the episode with Suki (The Warriors of Kyoshi) was a Sokka centric episode whereas this one was more about Katara, hence why Yue barley had any screentime. The poles are settled by waterbenders cause its their natural habitats with water all around in all forms. Plus super defensive as most benders will have a great uphill battle against waterbenders in this terrain. What happened to the benders of the Southern tribe will be revealed later on in the show. The Southern Water tribe suffered worse than the North because of two main reasons. One they were smaller than the Northern water tribe and two. They are much much closer to the Fire Nation. Practically in their back yard.
@BlueDiamonds1034 жыл бұрын
To answer your question, I think the northern tribe was a lot like Kyoshi Island and didn't want to get involved in the war. Also, glad you remember Suki! :)

The Souther Water Tribe was hit earlier in the war. As Katara mentioned before she’s the only Southern Water bender. With being in the fight longer and a lack of benders they’ve really suffered.

Just think how many Waterbenders it probably takes to shape and maintain a city like that where everything is made out of water and ice. Would not be possible to do by hand. Like Zhao said, the Northern Tribe has stayed out of the war for the most part, so they have the most Waterbenders in the north and their city hasn't been messed up the way the Southern Tribe has. The only reason Zhao is even assembling an armada is because they can't allow Aang to become a bigger thorn in the Fire Nation's side.

Over here in the UK, Nickelodeon was behind the US release, I remember they only aired episodes 1-13 for the longest time. One day out of curiosity, I checked YT for Avatar videos and saw this fight in a video. I remember looking at it in awe because the fight is so much better than the things from 1-13 and basically started watching the episodes online so I could watch the US release.

It's so great to listen your thoughts about Zuko. I think you'll love his story.
@residentfan15214 жыл бұрын
5:07 I’ve never noticed this before but they even animated the strings on the guitar(I don’t know if it’s actually a guitar but I’ll call it that) in a way that shows he’s pressing on them. Notice how every time he presses down on the fret the string bends down a bit and turns white to emphasize it. He’s also pressing on all the right strings to make the right sounds which a lot of cartoons gloss over and just have the character press random strings and somehow play the song perfectly.
@njannah974 жыл бұрын
I like your theory of Zuko taking out Bozo the Clown and lead the invasion. Then, successfully conquering the Northern Water Trube but still doesn't capture Aang. And interesting theory angle and perspective. Amazing!
@lindaalvarez57374 жыл бұрын
The reason why the Southern water Tribe, the home of Asoka and Katara, it’s like that is because they no longer have any manpower left to make the city grow any longer. Remember that in their hometown they only have child children and old people, all the men and all the Warriors no benders to fight in the war, taking with them all the ships and all the weapons: and (this is not explained in the 1st season but you can infere it) just like katara said she is the last water bender in her tribe, the rest were hunted down by the fire nation until there was no one left in her home, that was before Katara was even born (when her grandma was young) so nobody knew there was still a water bender in her tribe. With this as you can see they don’t have the ability to make the houses, buildings or constructions that can be made with water bending, Nor do they have the manpower to expand or mantain their territory any longer or to have the proper military force.
@kemolegend9074 жыл бұрын
The reason why the northern tribe is more advanced than the southern tribe is the lack of benders in the southern tribe

Zuko is crafty enough to survive another way, but the fire ball he encapsulated himself in during the explosion is an air bending move he picked up from fighting Aang.

I feel like this is the episode where the writers locked in on Katara's characterization. My least favourite part of season/book 1 is the inconsistency clearly seen in Katara. But from here on out she's better written.

You gotta remember, pretty much everyone from the Southern tribe was either taken prisoner for being a water bender or is off fighting in the war; The southern tribe is a lot closer to the Fire Nation, whereas the North doesn't have as much contact.
