I’m a full time singer but thinking of giving up because I suffered vocal muscle collapse a couple of yrs ago & ever since then, when ever I sing my voice just continuously keeps breaking or doesn’t come out at all.. Is there a quick & affective way to build my vocal muscles back up to where they used to be? Thank you very much Errol

My voice sounds better after but during the exercises quite raspy gravelly and variable tones, compared to yours :) will it improve with practice!
@healthyvoicetips3 жыл бұрын
There may be many reasons for raspiness or different voice quality. So I am not sure what you are working with. But these exercises are generally used to improve vocal function. So, my answer is YES without knowing details about your voice.

Thank you very much indeed! I could see the results after each exercise. However , I have a question. How often should I do them? And how many minutes each time?
@healthyvoicetips Жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you are dealing with and what your goal is. How long did it take for you to feel the difference? That is the time. You can do these exercises the first thing in the morning or in the evening after a day of voice use. or you can do a few minutes throughout the day before you start a vocal task. There are no strict rules. If these exercises are helpful, then use them at a time and for as long as you want.

I want to ask something that is very important for me! Two years ago, I started playing some songs alone, at home, but in a wrong way, forcing my voice, especially in the case of higher notes. I know that because of them I got tired of my voice in a way, because when I play certain tones it feels a little "squeaky". It's not a hoarse per se.( I mean is not a real hoarse, I don't know how to describe it well) I also noticed this sound in the case of soloists, singers, choristers, etc. It also happens to me when I want to sing without warming up before or in the morning. Or even if I warm up my voice . Sometimes (not often) when I speak I notice a slight hoarseness. It is not something chronic, or noticeable. I did not have and I do not have vocal defects. But I would like to be able to fix this rumble in my voice, because I really want to be able to sing in the choir in the future, and I wouldn't want it to be a real obstacle. What would you recommend me to restore my voice, after all that I have described above, and to be able to continue to sing healthily? Thank you very much.
@healthyvoicetips3 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniela, because I don't know you I have to say to go and have your voice properly checked first to be sure that your voice is ok. Then, when the laryngologist gives you green light, start working on your voice with a voice teacher or coach who can help you discover your voice and how you can adjust it to produce a healthy sound. Singing is a learned skill and sometimes we need a second pair of ears to know what to do. I wish you all the best.

It really depends on your goals and what you have done so far. If the exercise is new, then give it a few minutes. If you know how to do them well, then you can spend several minutes on them doing all kinds of exercises (5 - 10 minutes).

@healthyvoicetips9 ай бұрын
I know! This is a huge challenge. But there are always things you can do. You can always optimize your voice use in small increments. One of the biggest strategies would be vocal pacing. I suggest that you speak to a voice therapist who can give you some tips based on how you personally use your voice. General tips may not be helpful, the best advice is geared towards your needs.

Don't worry about placement. Make sure that you are feeling ease at the level of the vocal folds and buzziness in the face or in the straw.

Madam, I am writing from India. I am 56 years old. I am an asthmatic patient. Therefore, I have to use a steroid inhaler twice a day. I have been using this steroid inhaler for the last twenty years. As a result, my voice has deteriorated. The flexibility of my vocal cords has been lost. Naturally, my voice has broken. It is difficult to speak, and I cannot produce proper sounds. Can the exercises you suggested help me? Can you provide any special guidance for my problem?
@shaziakhalid27202 жыл бұрын
Dear Katarina I have contacted you once earlier after a week of my injection medialization due to my unilateral vocal fold palsy. I am a doctor by profession, I have rejoined my clinics after my consultant advise, as my voice has improved a lot after 3 weeks. But the problem that I am facing is , that even doing just 3 hour clinics, my voice gets tired and high pitched if session goes a bit longer or my voice volume gets a bit high unintentionally or if i talk after mild exertion. I tried these excercises but my throat feels scratchy/ hurts and voice becomes high pitched for few hours and I don’t try it again as I get afraid. I want your advise dear, should I try it ? Is it normal that throat hurts initially? When I discussed it with my consultant, he advised me for life style modification, eg . to speak in low volume , not to talk after an exertion and all that.. but it’s not practically possible always.. he said that if it hurts then don’t try voice therapy. But I am not satisfied with this remark. Please advise in this regard. I will be thankful to you. Regards
@healthyvoicetips2 жыл бұрын
If your voice hurts after using it, it means that it is the way how you use your voice is not most efficient and sustainable. The only way to change that is to re-train your voice and you can do that with the help of a voice therapist who has experience and knowledge in this area. Resting and not speaking every time it hurts will give you voice a break but it will not re-train the muscles.
