I don't want to write an essay but in short I trained badly(without actual knowledge).I shouted tried to imitate other voices as a result I abused my vocals so badly that people have to keep on asking 'wat did you say'? Now that am doing diaphragm exercises and using your technique, am surprised at how clear my vocals are becoming. You saved a soul, I couldnt do a presentation but I guess with more training, speech phobia will be a past. Thanks alot. Wish you could upload more clips to aid voice control and clarity. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This is crazy! I had vocal problems for years, especially while talking. I coulnt speak in my comfortable range because my vocal cords wouldnt close completely, causing breathiness and no power. After years i went to an speach therapist and she showed me Lax Vox. After the 1st time i noticed a difference already. After searching for more information i came across this video. And this methode helped me EVEN MORE! Im 1 week in and beginning to like my voice more each day. I can use low tones now. Thank you for this video!

@healthyvoicetips4 жыл бұрын
Straw phonation exercises are good exercises to strengthen the voice and re-train your voice. I would also suggest watching my latest video, in which I share a success story. In this video, I am talking about someone who was also told that her voice is normal. Simple laryngoscopy, can only uncover structural problems (which you don't have) but this exam does not show functional problems. Videostroboscopy would show if your vocal folds work efficiently. And if you have pain when speaking, it is possible that the function is impaired. In any case, here is the video with the story: kzbin.info/www/bejne/raKcg2Zjgqyiqtk

Dear Katarina, a long long time ago before internet was popular, I read an article written by a Japanese scientist on how to get a strong voice that he introduced three exercises; 1. blowing a whistle (which can be made of plastic or metal) for few minutes, 2. Blowing hard through a straw to push a ping pong ball put at the other end of the straw, and 3. blowing a balloon a couple of times a day. the difference with the straw phonation is that it doesn't involve voicing, just pure blowing of air. Contrary to most suggestions on straw phonation where it is suggested is to blow the straw gently, the point no 2 recommends that we blow as strongly as possible. Do you think it is safe to practice? will that put our organ at risk? is it beneficial? Can you give some explanation on these practices and whether these are good to practice and how to practice these safely? Thank you so much Katarina!!! wish you all the best, I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
@healthyvoicetips3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I recommend blowing air gently for several reasons but here is one: these videos are aimed at people who experience tension and pushing more air through a straw will only add more tension. The exercises you are describing are basically blowing air against resistance, which is recommended if you want to strengthen the muscles. If you are adding voicing to the exercises, you are also strengthening the muscles that bring the vocal folds together, keep them together or even stretch them and shorten them. How to practice these exercises safely? Listen to your body. If something does not feel right, then stop.

@healthyvoicetips Жыл бұрын
For vocal nodules, it is important to understand relative and absolute vocal rest. Maybe this video will help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYipgYSCj66habs But also, straws are just one exercise. Don't expect that straws and relative rest will heal your voice. There are other things that you should consider. Voice therapy is the best approach for vocal nodules so I suggest that you find a voice therapist who can help you understand what needs to be done in order to eliminate vocal nodules.

I am so very sorry to hear that you did not find any reliable person who could help you with voice. breathiness means that the vocal folds don't come together and there is a leak of breath when using your voice. Hi Finsha, sulcus vocalis is a condition that is not well understood and therefore, there are not too many studies documenting effectiveness of voice therapy for this condition. However, in general voice therapy for sulcus vocalis should be aimed at reducing vocal strain and compensatory strategies, which improves voice production. Therefore, SOVT exercises and straw exercises should be beneficial to a person with sulcus vocalis. These exercises will not get rid of the sulcus but they will help improve voice quality. I wish you all the best.

Hi, will this help vocal cord dysfunction? I believe my vocal folds close when they should be opening causing difficulty in breathing and leaves my throat sore. I’m also a singer and don’t want to have to give it up.
@healthyvoicetips2 жыл бұрын
No, they will not. They may help to optimize vocal function but not help your particular voice problem.

Not necessarily. If you do not exert high effort at the level of the vocal folds, then you should be fine.

Hi Katrina, I have a general MTD question. Whenever my voice cracks I'm not sure if it's because (1) I'm using too much air or (2) I'm not using enough air... is there a way to tell which one it is? Or can both 1 and 2 cause a voice crack? I just wish I knew, so I can adjust accordingly.
@healthyvoicetips2 жыл бұрын
It can be both and it can be many other factors. Take a baseline, do an exercise with a lot of breath, then do the same exercise with little breath, compare those two, how they feel and what gives you better results. Then find the appropriate amount of breath. Don't forget that different vocal tasks will require different amounts of breath.

Where are we supposed to get vocal straws from??? No link

You don't need special straws. Find a straw that you have at home. Or google straws for voice. There are so many vendors offering special straws.

Does this exercise works for MTD as well? I’ve done straw works exercises, but unfortunately my voice gets tired and hoarse from these exercises too. Why is this so?
@healthyvoicetips Жыл бұрын
Straw exercises can be used for people with MTD. But some people find them tiring, others freeing. That is because everyone makes the sound differently. Therefore, I tell all my clients with MTD to focus on the inner sensations when making the sounds, not just do the exercises without focus. The key is to fine-tune the work of the muscles that create the sound.

You can do these exercises. You will not harm your voice but you will probably not improve sulcus vocalis as that is a more complicated issue.

Have you seen an ENT?
@itshannahelenaalexis2 жыл бұрын
I have a question, I went to the ENT and they said they see my vocal chords are irritated and it looks like there is one pre-nodule due to overuse. I don’t want to completely illuminate vocalization, but she said no singing at all. Would straw exercises further irritate them?
@healthyvoicetips Жыл бұрын
Straw exercises are used for voice therapy for people with vocal nodules. But they have to be done in a gentle way. I suggest that you follow instructions of your voice therapist.

Hi , i'm from india i have vocal cord paralysis since 4 years , will it recover from speech therapy ?
@healthyvoicetips2 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to hear about your vocal troubles. Vocal cord paralysis that lasts for 4 years usually does not respond to voice therapy. Have you talked to your doctor about other treatment options?

I have been doing all times of workout especially skipping rope but after i saw swelling in my throat and went to doctor and got to know that i have 3 vocal polyps ,so the doctor said not to workout. But i am on my way to loose weight but unable to understand which all exercises i can do which will not hurt my throat. So, i want you to uplaod a video on what all weight loss exercises can a person with vocal nodule or vocal polyp can perform. Fast walking is also not allowed?
@healthyvoicetips4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Basically, any strenuous exercise where your focal folds come together forcefully should be avoided. Many exercises require tight vocal fold closure to bear down and increase intra-abdominal pressure. I would suggest recreational swimming but you need to confirm with your doctor because he or she knows you best.
