Katatonia are a Swedish metal band formed in Stockholm in 1991 by Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström. The band started as a studio-only project for the duo, as an outlet for the band's love of death metal.
City Burials is the eleventh studio album by Swedish metal band Katatonia. The album continues the progressive rock direction used in recent albums while returning to some of their earlier metal instrumentation

Awesome band! Katatonia are my all time favourite band I love everything they have done from the 1993 EP Jhva Elohim Meth which is the 1992 Demo on CD when they were just a 2 piece band ( with a little vocal and Keyboard session from Dan Swano) when the were playing Black Gothic Doom Metal!!! Right up to what they become now which is just amazing!!! Brave Murder Day and Sounds Of Decay are excellent records also Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth does all the harsh on these releases!!! Then onto Discouraged ones, Tonight's Decision, Last Fair Deal Gone Down, Viva Emptiness, The Great Cold Distance, Night Is The New Day, Dead End Kings and Fall Of Hearts!!!! Their first album Dance Of December Souls is also an excellent release and the follow up EP For The Funerals To Come also amazing!!!!! So whichever Katatonia you choose you cannot go wrong!!!! Katatonia started out in the 90's as a doom metal band. Jonas quit growling at a point, and then they went into exploring other genres, and in this process they did do a goth album, which they found didn't quite fit them (either). In my opinion they found themselves with Viva Emptiness, and the album after that, The Great Cold Distance is their best album. Or at least it's the album I always return to. They released several albums after that, and City Burials is not really typically them. I don't know what their genre is really, some people call it post prog. The reason the album is called City Burials is that they are exploring streets in the city of Katatonia that they haven't gone down before. The guitarist is new also (2016), they haven't had this kind of shredding before. A LOT of people were upset in a Katatoina fb group about this album because it was not what they expected. But with Katatonia you have to expect the unexpected. I don't know what the song is about, and not the video either. Jonas has said that he often doesn't know what the songs are about until long after he wrote them, so there's a chance he doesn't know either. I am still getting into their new album so I don't know what to suggest to you! When I first heard it I was crying, laughing and going "what?" throughout the album, and I had to turn it off because I was overwhelmed.
