My first time trying to bake "mokkapalat" while throwing in some baking related vocab into the mix.
Someone requested a long time ago that I make a video while cooking/baking to learn some food related vocab so here it is! A mini Finnish lesson while baking!

Great video! Hope to see more of this format . Really helpful to hear finnish in such a setting with both faster sentences translated and also spoken finnish which really helps a lot. Kiitos.

Just catching up on some old videos, thanks. We use teaspoon, tablespoon, cups, etc. I did one attempt so far at pulla and not great but not too bad either. Thanks again

A cup is about 2.5 dl and a mug is 3 dl. Baking recipes in Ireland use tablespoons, teaspoons, cups, ounces, litres, and a "pinch" or a "dash" for really small quantities. Just about every kind of measurement you can imagine - but not "quart" (quarter gallon) which in the US is approx. 1 litre (10 dl) or 4 cups (=32 fluid ounces). The UK or "imperial" quart is a bit more than 11 dl.

wow, thank you for the video! and awesome earrings :) In Russia we use grams and tablespoons/teaspoons for small amounts (like baking powder, salt, etc.). As I know baking powder may be replaced by "baking soda" (sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydrocarbonate) in some countries (correct me if I'm wrong). It's very interesting to know about the egg replacement powder, it seems to be very useful for vegan baking. And yes, I agree with other comments to add more coffee (can't say about instant coffee because I don't drink it and I don't have it). Faster sentences are hard to understand but I agree, it's useful to hear how the "real" Finnish sounds in conversations. Kiitos paljon!

Can you do more cooking videos. I love cooking videos. :-) Translating your translation. I think 'Beat the eggs and sugar into a foam' means 'Beat the eggs and sugar until it forms soft peaks'. That always requires separating the eggs and using the egg whites only. I never bake things that require doing that because I'm far too lazy. lol You meant wooden spoon, not fork of course. You need to put more elbow grease into your beating, or do what I do and use an electric mixer. :-) Maybe make the coffee really strong. Half the water perhaps? I modern UK recipes we would use millilitres for liquid measurements and grams for dry ingredients. For old recipes we would use the Imperial avoirdupois system. Fluid ounces, (maybe gills) and pints for liquid measurements and lbs & oz for dry ingredients. Both systems have teaspoons, tablespoons and dessert spoons. For oven temps we would use gas mark 3 or whatever number the recipe says, and Celsius. Gas mark is the same in old recipes, but Fahrenheit and terms like 'Slow oven', Moderate oven' and 'Hot oven' are also used. My recipe book tells you how to use an 'ordinary coal oven'. :-) We call frosting 'icing', but what you put on top was 'Hundreds and thousands', what Americans call 'Sprinkles'. I haven't made mokkapalat but I have made brownies in a microwave.

Hello and greetings from Poland! More cooking and baking videos, please! I'm a big fan of your teaching methods - they helped me a lot. I'd love to see ''what's in my kitchen cupboard/pantry'' - similar to ''what's in my fridge'' video you've made. Here for measuring ingredients we use small (teaspoon) and big (soup spoon) spoons and grams/milliliters - 1 dcl = 10 ml, so looks like you guys just skip one ''0'' for your convenience ;) It's interesting how some words in our languages sound similar, f.e.: sokeria - cukier suola - sól desilitra - decylitr kilogramma - kilogram Celsius - Celsjusz margariini - margaryna pakkaus - paczka/opakowanie kaakao - kakao vanilja - wanilia etc :)

In Italy we use grams for solid ingredients and deciliter for liquid ingredients ^^ Great video! I'm always curious about new recipes . Was hard for me to follow in Finnish because I'm really beginner but this gave me the motivation to study harder! ^^

I believe it's always a mistake to use measurements in cooking. Simply start out with your fresh produce, meat or whatever. Cook each in whatever medium you think will impart the right flavor and amount, duration etc of cooking, use chemistry. Spices at correct time and proportional to natural quantities, not predetermined.
@badmood9819

But what if you don’t have intuition at all about the quantities ?
