Interesting that you thought this theatrical - Kate is, above all, a story-teller and many of her videos are a dramatic representation of the song - in particular the likes of "Cloudbusting", "Experiment IV" and "Breathing". The Ninth Wave should be listened to in one sitting to get the full effect of the "Story"

Yes! She's so creative and brilliant, and above all, a wonderful storyteller. Her ability to tell stories from so many different perspectives is what has kept me a fan since 1979.

@markiebaby is correct. The Netflix series used the song during an episode; which then reintroduced Bush to modern audiences. The song became so popular that Bush became the oldest female artist to have a number one, beating out Cher. Cher tweeted out her congratulations afterwards. I'd so wonderful for so many people to find her again after all this time.

Wonderful reaction! It took me awhile to "get" Kate Bush - her voice/style is a definite "flavor"! 😁Now I think she's a genius, and a complete ARTIST. I love this song in particular. A band called The Futureheads did a cover of it in the early 2000s - it's pretty fantastic, very different, more upbeat and new wave. Kate loved it. 😁

It is theatrical this was the debut of her classy british pop star caricature. This whole album is fantastic and of course unique. The B side should be listened to from start to finish. It tells a story of death, reincarnation and other Kate Bush things. In every one of her songs, she is signing the part of a character, real, fictional, animate, inanimate... eg. her "50 Words for Snow" takes place in a snowglobe... after it has been shaken... Kate the Genius! I'm so happy you liked "Wuthering Heights," many people who like her newer stuff don't like the older. I was lucky to be introduced to the Lionheart album when I was 10 and have been in love with her ever since. From the same era, try: "Lionheart" "The Man With the Child In His Eyes" "Symphony In Blue"

Dude, what they all said👇👍 Kate is a one in a bazillion & always will be! You can soooo hear her influence in peeps like Florence Welsh, FKA Twigs, St Vincent, Bjork, Tori Amos, etc.... the list goes on & on! & she's been beloved by everyone from Stevie Nicks to Tupac, to Lorde, & beyond... & yeah, Running Up That Hill "became" again, bc Wynona Ryder suggested the track for Stranger Things, which she stars in. Sooo deserving, too. Shes always been a bit too odd for the mainstream US pallet, but as you can see, shes a genius! Her work is so intelligent, so peeps & musos in the know, know, yanno?! Lol If you didn't listen to it all at the time, maybe react to especially the while 2nd side of Hounds Of Love album: The Nineth Wave, suite! Its just incredible. About a woman who had to man-overboard, & her delirious journey afloat in the dark ocean, as she darts in & out of consciousness whilst trying not to drown. Play it all at once you wont regret it 🎉

Salvo, You are just beginning the "journey of Kate Bush's" album "Hounds of love,", there is much much more to discover, experience and listen to, it will blow your mind! The second side of this album is called "The Ninth Wave" and it will blow your mind!! It is a whole story in itself, every single song leads you to the next, then "the conclusion" of the story. Hi and thanks for this. Going from 'Wuthering Heights' to 'Hounds of Love' is an unusual initial step, given that the latter, while an excellent track , was something of only a minor hit. Now the album of the same name really is a masterpiece of an album and is rightly regarded as one of the very few flawless and one of the truly great albums that can stand alongside anything done by anyone else in the entire history of rock music (if you do decide to listen to the entire 'Hounds of Love' album it is probably a good thing to say that the second half of the album 'The Ninth Wave' really does need to be listened to in one sitting without any breaks - since it is a stand alone cycle or suite of songs that tells a single story of a woman lost at sea). But in terms of just listening to one off songs here and there from her musicyou will find a lot of diversity in them and quite few songs that on their own are just jaw dropping. For example: 'Rocket's Tail' - which features Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) on guitar 'The Man With the Child In His Eyes' - written when she was about 13 'Babooshka' - with the official video - just trust me on that one 'Breathing' - the remastered audio version about a baby in the womb speaking about its terror at the prospect of a nuclear world war. 'Night of the Swallow' 'This Woman's Work' - with the video that she herself directed 'Army Dreamers' - with the video - eventually placed on a banned list by the BBC 11 years after it was released! 'The Kick Inside' - a song about incest, pregnancy and suicide written in the form of a suicide note from the sister to the brother. 'Violin' - remastered audio version - utterly mad!!! 'Delius' - about classical composer Frederick Delius battling against syphilis and trying to continue to compose his music. But thanks again for this. I really enjoyed it.

Man.. where to start with Kate Bush? 😅 I discovered you during your Fleetwood Mac posts as I began exploring the Macs discography for the 1st time, big Lindsey & Stevie fan myself. You got a great start with Wuthering Heights and Hounds of Love and have quite the Kate Bush journey ahead of you, gotta day I might be jealous. There is nothing better than listening to a Kate Bush song for the very first time. ☺️ My favorite album is The Dreaming followed by Hounds of Love although critics consider it her Magnum Opus. Personally, I tend to lean towards the more experimental, The Dreaming and it might be her most underrated but brilliant body of work. It's best consumed in its entirety rather than song by song. My recommendations in no particular order: -Running Up That Hill -Breathing -Cloudbusting -The Sensual World -Experiment IV -The Wedding List -Army Dreamers -Get out of my House -Night of The Swallow -Pull Out The Pin -Them Heavy People -Waking the Witch -Hammer Horror -Symphony in Blue -James & The Cold Gun

Ironically the weakest track on the album, Lol.. The first half of the album was the accessible pop side, but VERY top quality pop. The second half however, js her 7-part opus The Ninth Wave, this is a harrowing journey into the subconscious, expressed as the woman stranded at sea after a shipwreck, floating in a lifejacket, trying desperately to stay awake and stay alive, but she drifts into slumber and finds herself trapped on the threshold of life and death, the personal and collective unconscious. Also, that previous album The Dreaming, was her greatest masterpiece, but it scared the shit out of EMI, so they didn't really get behind it. But time and hindsight have spoken clearly, it was a pioneering work of genius. Her third release was also astounding, 'Never Forever' check out her albums, much like Pink Floyd and Genesis, Kate is an ALBUM artist..
