Kate takes over as Colonel of the Irish Guards

Prince William, outgoing Colonel, and Kate, incoming Colonel of the Irish Guards regiment have attended the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Aldershot.
It marked Kate's first time attending the parade as Colonel of the regiment having recently visited the 1st Battalion Irish Guards on Salisbury Plain.
Kate gave the traditional sprigs of shamrock to the officers and also to the regimental mascot, an Irish wolfhound.

The little girl with the flowers, Princess Catherine asked "are those for me?" and the little girl says "yeah" and the Princess slowly and carefully takes the gorgeous flowers. Not exactly. In the UK members of the armed forces swear loyalty, and allegiance to The King, his Heirs, and Successors. The sovereign is The UK's Commander in Chief; the current monarch is her father in law, and the the next is is her husband, and the one after that is her son. So the emotional, ceremonial, and cultural significance is considerable.
