Her accent in titanic was great! Back then the Uber wealthy spoke with an anglicized American accent called a ”transatlantic accent”. So Rose sounds authentic.

Something to think about: Kate Winslet’s character in Titanic is also from Delaware County. Rose was a member of Philadelphia’s wealthy elite, and most of those passengers had roots in Radnor, Villanova, and Haverford.

Coincidentally the first couple films I saw of her including Titanic and Revolutionary Road, all had her doing an American accent. I think Flushed Away was the only time prior to that period I saw a film with her using her natural voice, even though I didn’t know it was her back then as I was a kid.

Or maybe, the made-for-TV versions of the Betty Broderick story including the second season of Dirty John are somewhat okay. It is just that Hollywood should make a better version of the Betty Broderick story and I have this picture in my mind that Kate Winslet would portray Betty Broderick, Leonardo DiCaprio would portray Dan Broderick, Margot Robbie would portray Linda Kolkena Broderick, and Alyson Hannigan would portray Kerry Wells who was the prosecutor who convicted Betty Broderick.

Especially as a young kid I thought rose and her family were British and I’m from England born and bred. Especially her mother. Apparently back then it was a ‘transatlantic’ accent

This might offen many Titanic fans because American Pie is the decade-defining movie of the 1990s. Titanic can have its 11 Oscars, but American Pie is the decade-defining movie of the 1990s.

I'm really enjoying Mare of Easttown. Everything else about her performance is awesome. I think it's partly distracting because we are so use to how she speaks.
