Serious question -- are you allowed to build up your difficulty so that, even if you bobble, you get a 10? She clearly had a bobble after that beautiful layout. Seems weird to not take a deduction on a clear bobble?
@tkralva.66684 жыл бұрын
@@alexiskim6561 no, she qualified for the team, but she was a few months too young (you have to be 14 to compete in Olympics) so she missed the chance to complete. She then suffered a back injury and retired from elite. When she was younger she was better than Simone Biles, but no way to say whether that would have remained the case had she carried on after recovery. As she was "bullied" for the developing a female body which caused psychological trauma. But again would her natural body shape have limited her elite career, I don't know as you never know really see fully developed women on the elite circuit. When girls go through puberty in athletes they loses some of their skills, speed etc as their body has to readjust ans build the muscles to carry the extra weight of growth. This is not negative but positive and you can never compare a pre-puberty teen with a post puberty teen due to the changes in body mass and muscle and adrenaline produced in the puberty change process. (my daughter is a swimmer and this was explained to me when she went through puberty) Whatever, she made tge correct decision for her life and that is all that is important.

I'm still not quite used to college gymnastics after watching elite and Olympics gymnastics for so long. It doesn't seem like this routine is packed with a lot of skills and it's super short, but I guess that's how college gymnastics is. I wonder how those former senior international elite level gymnasts at ucla (Sam Peszek, Maddie Kocian, Kyla Ross, etc.) adjusted to the change from doing a whole lot more stuff in one routine to two or three skills only.
@heatherwicker99907 жыл бұрын
I've read interviews with them before and they admit its a big change but they love it. I like how they can concentrate on certain skills more and perfect them rather than rush and do as many as possible. They have to be able to breathe better too. It is a different beast, college gymnastics, but it's very entertaining and very high energy. I love it.

She was elite, too(beat Simone in 2013) and got rewarded for taking a risk and not falling, because difficulty is NOT needed in college gymnastics. She only had a slight balance check, so they can't be harsh on her for the risk. Most of them don't take risks like that. Katelyn still takes it back to her elite days even if it's just one skill. Didn't do the full twist here, but it isn't something college gymnasts dare to do. Even ones that were olympians. They want a secure good score with something easy.

There are certain requirements to get a 10 start value. If you're familiar with JO it's like that but with slightly different rules with deductions and requirements. Just goes to show how ridiculous the body shaming in things like gymnastics and ballet are. So a kid is growing... part of growing is maintaining your skills, be they walking or balance beam, as your body changes. No national level athlete is going to suddenly suck just because they hit puberty. Unless they have the misfortune of outgrowing the apparatus, but no amount of shame is going to make you shorter. Accepting that some other girl is going to be the one in the lifts, or that some other girl can do four flips on the beam when you can only do three, is just a part of growing up. Maybe that means someone else wins. That's life. Shame on all the adults who just can't accept growing up as part of the sport.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure the bonus for the skill difficulty replaces the deduction from the mistake or something like that, so in elite she would've gotten the deduction but in college basically she didn't, that's why she got a 10! Also I think it's to do with the judges, some might give a deduction some may not!

Yeah she did, but I don't know if it was seen from a judges perspective. Also the thing is, they always talk about difficulcy being rewarded and she does a layout landing on two feet, which even in the FIG CoP is an E skill, so a full 0.2 more worth than a layout-stepout, which is a C skill. So I guess since thw wobble was tiny they were easier on it with the fact in mind that it is college gymnastics and the deductions here work a bit differently overall.

She's honestly one of the only ones that takes risks. Others don't take them because they want a perfect ten. She got a 10 from one judge when she did it to the full twist.

A bobble do you mean wobble? Maybe learn to spell before correcting things that you can't do

“cAn YoU dO tHiS?” wtf? people are just pointing out that it wasn’t quite a perfect ten. are they saying she didn’t deserve it? no. they’re saying that there was a small wobble. people also aren’t saying that they think the skill is easy. everyone knows it’s hard to do

A balance check,but it was so slight and almost lokked like part of the routine,so I would give her a 10
