Thank you for the experience. We were on a business trip in Bangaluru and took plane to Kerala. Nobody from the team wanted to come to the show, one even fell asleep 😀. It is art that I hope will not be forgotten and lost.

here in kerala we have a saying, "to watch kathakali without prior knowledge of the story that's being portrayed". It's something we used to describe the state of being clueless. You have to have a decent understanding of the hindu epics. It doesn't matter even if you are a keralite, if you don't know about the story it's pretty hard to comprehend what's being portrayed. Once you do, you get to see the actors performing their designated roles, appreciate the poetry that's used to narrate the story.

"Kathakali is not just a performance; it is a living art that narrates timeless tales through its captivating expressions, intricate hand gestures (mudras), and rhythmic footwork. The elaborate costumes and striking facial makeup create a visual spectacle, while the music and percussion bring an unmatched intensity to the storytelling. It is a true testament to the depth of Indian culture and the dedication of its artists."

It's the true nature of our culture unity in diversity. The different languages, colours, traditions, men and women all are different in physical form but they all live in harmony like different flowers in a beatiful garland.
