Where was Sam Elliott in all of this? He is the biological father, does he not have a say how his daughter treats her mother? No matter how inferior she may have felt by her mother's success, at 26 you don't try and kill your mother! She seems mentally ill, this is not normal behavior. Before I listened to this, I thought maybe she was 14 or 15, kids at that age can go off the rails because they are children in an adult world but 26? That is just mental illness. If she did this with anyone else, she would be in jail or put away as a danger to society. How devastating.

At 26, and her mother, 70, indicates how little restraint her daughter has. Stop making excuses for Cleo, a privileged, only child. . The legal action was necessary though, while not guaranteeing full protection, it offered Katherine a breathing space and has forced her daughter to take stock of her own emotional situation. I cannot imagine that her daughter would not have sort advice or professional medical help.

Yes.. this makes me suspect mental health issues and I'm sure MS Ross is well aware of this. . It is sad that people are quick to fault someone when they don't really know the whole story and it is easy to jump to conclusions. Mental Health issues are often not easy to recognize as it can seem like personality differences . Diagnosing MH often takes some time before these " personality quirks " are realized as MH issues. ...people are often not diagnosed until they are young adults.. but the problems have been going on for years. I'm sure she loves her daughter and has suffered greatly by her inability to help and understand her. ... but these problems are not an easy fix. I wish the family well and hope all find peace.

I can tell you from experience, that, I sympathize with Katherine about the inner struggle to get a restraining order against your own child. I had to get one against my own daughter. She became an alcoholic later in her life and had no place to live, so she thought she could come to my new house, take it over and act like it was hers, and order me around, all while she was drunk. I had to call the police to remove her and had to get a restraining order. It is a very hard decision to make. You bring this person into the world, and just because they don't get their way, they think they can attack us and make false allegations against us when we did nothing we are accused of. My daughter didn't have mental problems. She is just a controlling narcissist and wanted to live with me again RENT FREE. I put my foot down, and she didn't like it. Now we no longer speak. HER loss, not mine. I am free of her drama and I feel so much better. Sometimes you have to make difficult decisions to save your peace and sanity. And NO. My daughter was not a "spoiled brat". She just thinks she's above the rest of the world and we should cater to every need. For Cleo, I don't believe she is that "spoiled Hollywood brat". She just has her own mental issues for not getting her way.

Until, they went off to college. I don't know my kids anymore. They changed so much. The pain they have caused me was unbearable. They never said they were sorry. They never would talk to me. I even ask them if we can go for counseling. They wouldn't. My daughter told me, if I continue to want to talk about it, she would not speak to me anymore. My son's wife treated me so horribly. No wonder Cleo was resentful. Each of her parents has that indefinable Hollywood "X Factor," that enigmatic entity that gives big stars their public appeal and staying power. Life is tough in this way for the offspring of glamorous movie stars, and these progeny rarely are blessed with that thing that made their parents so loved by the camera.

Growing up in the 60s and 70s, I loved Katherine Ross. Another source said Cleo had bouts of violence in her childhood. While celebrity status could play a role in Cleo's behavior, it seems like she has mental health issues that need to be attended to. Sad that Cleo was Katherine's only child. Despite that, she seems to be enjoying a creative life.

Thank you. 1. I kept wondering about the commentary. a)Did you interview Katherine or read her autobiography? b) There's much assuming and jumping to why/how/when. 2. And you didn't list that Katherine was one of the stars on The Colbys. The spinoff of Dynasty; it was a weekly series for two years. Charles Heston played her husband, and he was Barbara Stanwyck, the matriarch.

Some parents have this idea that if you don't measure up to their standards, you are worthless and worse than that, you are left out. I haven't spoken to my mother face to face in almost ten years. One of the most hurtful things she said, (many times), was "You should throw away the first two, those were your mistakes." I am the oldest of four and my brother and I were her mistakes as she called us. The younger two siblings were perfect in her eyes. No wonder I am estranged from them. When I left the family no one said anything, didn't try to understand or even ask why. They knew why and they didn't care.

My then-14yo daughter tried to stab me in 2007 back in my ‘male’ days and then wanted the key to my gun case so she “could put a bullet through his (my) brain” because I took away her iPod for 4 days when she called me an a**hole. My ex-wife laughed and said “If I knew where it was, honey, I’d give it to you.”😳 After the 4 days was up all she had to do was apologize, but as she said to my face “Mom says I don’t have to apologize to you.” That was when I wisely decided to move out and end the marriage which took another 3 1/2 years to settle our nasty divorce. 4 years later, I realized I was female.💝 I now live in peace not pieces and I’m ninth year fully female.💁‍♀️✌🏼
