LJY08 I assume you're trying to make a feminist point. You're doing it badly. RPS didn't call her a comedienne, he or she called her a female comedian, because that's what she is. Gender is a reality and there's nothing wrong with recognising the fact.

JJBushfan It's not about gender, she wouldn't have referred to a male comedian as a 'male comedian' she would have just referred to him as a 'comedian'. Whether you agree with it or not, suggesting that she is a 'female comedian' suggests that she is a part of a special group that needs special attention. It's like saying, he is the best of the black comedians. Why ever mention the colour of the person's skin? Likewise, why mention the person's gender? I'm sorry if you think this stuff is frivolous, but unfortunately attitude change is all about addressing the minutia in our societies. It's not the big stuff, it's the small stuff. She is a comedian; her gender is irrelevant.
