If you have the option to pick between the better-timed class and the better teacher PICK THE BETTER TEACHER, you'll be more engaged, happier to do the work and less likely to skip i.e. learn more. And don't be scared to ask around if the teacher is any good

another tip I have is to register for the maximum amount of classes you can (usually 18 credits) even if you only plan to take 15. that way if you end up hating a class or professor early on you can drop it and you won't need to worry about getting into another class 2 weeks into the year

Another piece of advice that I have is to have a backup plan or a backup schedule that you come up with in case a class that you wanted is full. AND if it is full but you really want it, keep checking up on the class to see if open seats become available because throughout the period of registration, people are adding and dropping classes all the time!

I wish I would have watched this video before I chose my classes for the fall. But I'm pretty satisfied with my schedule. I have one 9:30 class every other Monday. Other than that all my classes are no earlier than 11. I knew that 8am classes my first semester would not work out for me. Maybe I'll try it the second semester. The academic advisers were so helpful and they stopped me from picking unnecessary courses and explained everything clearly.

I found that taking 8ams was really hard but I did find that taking a 9am helped a lot! I'm a joint major and I find that one of the most helpful things to do in order to manage all of your requirements is to make a tentative plan for your entire college career that lists the requirements for your major(s) and then the classes you have taken and plan to take in future years in order to ensure you're actually meeting the requirements as you graduate. I also agree about professors. I do better in classes with tough professors because when you know there's no chance of an extension or late penalty on an assignment, you get it done in time.

Great tips!! Ratemyprofessor has ALWAYS been helpful for me. I swear by it. I love morning classes! I take 9:30 classes every semester and I've always loved them. The academic advisor tip is really good as well! I really wish I had upperclassmen friends, but I'm an education student and most people at my school are in engineering or the education people are in their 30s with families lol. Anyway, great tips! ALSO: how many credit hours do you recommend? I've been taking 15 and they're so hard to keep up with.
@elizabethliu87317 жыл бұрын
I'm a sophomore Social Work major and 15 credits at my college is five courses. I've found anything beyond five classes is hard to do because it may not seem like a normal amount of work during the semester but you'll be killing yourself around finals week. But you also have to make sure you have enough credits to graduate! At my school i need a total off 122.

Wow, the American system is so different to that in the UK - we don't get to pick many modules (and those we do we only have a limited list of options) and the exams are more centrally set, so your grade doesn't depend on how nice a particular lecturer is. Your system seems a lot more flexible (but complicated!)

One tip I would give is if you find you have late registration and all the good professors are taken. Take the class with the not so great professor as it's better to take the class with a not so great professor to get it out of the way then to wait and be behind in credits. Especially if you are in a major that requires you to take classes before others or has clinical's. For example, I am in education which has clinical periods and in order to do clinical's you have to take specific classes first in order to get into your clinical classes. Also those professors you can still do well in the class even if they are not as good at teaching the subjects.

Y'all BE CAREFUL about the "holding classes for other people" strategy. At my college, this is against the rules and if you're found to have done it, the honor council will review your case and pass punishment. Check the rules and ask around before you do that. I know it sounds odd that they'd suspend you or something for trying to take a class, but that's just how it works.

I'm in the same position. Make a list of what matters most to you in a college (for me, 1 was campus/environment, 2 was ranking/reputation, and 3 was major options) then pick the one that is better for your number(s) on the top of the list
@DearSparklesTV8 жыл бұрын
+SavySaysTV if they're really truly equally as good to you, choose the cheaper option. You can always transfer.

I think your choice is entirely dependant on what your post-grad plans are. For me personally I was stuck between two schools because one had a really good program that gave me the option to not have to do post-grad studies, but the other was all about the student life. I'm planning on doing law school post-grad so I picked the school I was confident I would be happy at, rather than a school I was unsure about being happy at for the sake of the program. If you're unsure of your post-grad plans, I would stick with the program so if you know at least you'll come out after four years with a good degree rarer than an okay degree and some good party stories;)

At my school you can't really hold a registration spot for someone. There's registering and there's waitlisting, so if someone registered to hold a spot and then dropped, the first person on the waitlist would get in. So you could maybe do it, but only if you're the first person on the waitlist.
