I get most of my books from amazon. I usually pick "used rent" books, it literally saves me hundreds of dollars. I would also recommend ordering them two weeks beforehand so you won't freak out about them not being there on time. There is also no downside to this because I think you have about a month after you buy them to return them without any consequences if the professor decides that the book isn't a requirement. Hope this helps!

Studying before a study session is especially helpful with math classes because you can figure out which types of problems you are having trouble solving on your own, then ask the teacher to solve one to see where you went wrong. Also, please make the video about textbooks, it would be really helpful. I'm definitely entering the giveaway, thanks for teaming up with barensandnobel.

These tips are 10/10. I'll definitely be putting them into practice this year!!!! + An add on to your second point to avoid: Last year, as a freshman, I went to this "etiquette dinner" mostly geared towards upperclassmen preparing them for a professional interview. Everyone at my table was so confused as to why I was there, and I replied "I thought it would be fun!" I had no idea it was an upperclassman event, but still, I learned so much and I'm looking forward to this year's dinner!

I'm taking as much of this video to heart as I can - I'm sure I'll be making my own brand of mistakes here, but it's so good to feel *that* much more prepared for this new stage in my life. Thank you for making college life so exciting for me! I can't believe I'm really sitting here in my dorm room typing this out - I'm really nervous, but hopefully I'll be killin it before the year's out :)

#4 is so important! I love my bike and I would be so upset if it ever got stolen. Some of the points in the video don't really apply to me because I don't live in the US, e.g. the food on campus is healthy and cheap here, you don't use credit cards to built credit score and I've only needed to buy a single 20€ textbook in 2 years of college :) I still find it interesting to hear your recommendations on those items though. And you're advice on writing down all the deadlines right away is spot on. I always keep a huge calendar (the kind with the whole year on one page) above my desk to prevent the deadlines from sneaking up on me. Your video is also a much needed reminder to start studying earlier this semester. I'm usually one of the people who waits for the review session to start and I need to break that bad habit.

A calendar was helpful - before smartphones and such that have them built in. Some professors will give you a book list but especially as you get further in you may not need all the books or be able to borrow what you need at the library--or check Barnes and Noble or Amazon, Ebay etc or students privately selling their books. Set aside time for work and time for fun. Either one in excess can be bad.

My college I went to was notorious for having a lot of classes, especially the gen ed ones required by all students, where textbooks were bundle packs exclusive to the school & had to be bought new because they included access codes for online programs that were a requirement for the class. And even worse, the books weren't returnable or eligible for reselling cause the next students needed the bundle. Or textbooks would change editions just about every year & many professors, though not all, didn't accept older editions (some of the older editions didn't have all of the same content). It was completely ridiculous because I was basically forced to pay whatever they asked for and lost a lot of money saving options like shopping on Amazon, used books, etc. fortunately though, my last few semesters became cheaper because I was an English major and most of my classes had novels. There were a few exceptions like some survey Lit courses with expensive anthologies and some gen ed classes, but I'd say a lot of the cost is dependent on your program. Most of my literature books I kept because The money I'd get back wasn't worth the hassle of trying to resell to the bookstore (I got $8 for a book that cost me over $100!) or the school wouldn't take them cause they were using other books or editions. Also I am a book nerd and definitely could read these again in the future (some of the books, or parts of the anthologies we didn't get to so that's an added benefit)
@princesslulu57957 жыл бұрын
My last few semesters I gave up on selling books back at the campus bookstore because it just wasn't worth going out of my way waiting in line forever just to make $8 on a $100+ book, $10 on a $150-200+ book, or them not take the book at all. I kept most of my literature books because they were mainly novels. Other books I didn't keep I would give to my sister or friends who needed them.

Yes please leave campus! I grew up in the same place where my university is and its a shame to see students not enjoying the things that I think make my town really unique. Whenever anyone does leave campus its always the same old bars and coffee shops downtown. Don't be that basic person because students who are from the area will be secretly judging you.

Going to CSUN in just a few months and I’m really anxious. Your videos are really helping answer my questions. The internet amazingly has not been helpful. For example, I can not find ANYWHERE what AP scores are going to count and which ones won’t. Like I just found out from my mom that my English AP scores probably won’t do me any good because schools insist on taking English classes.

Leslie Sekou that's only if you know someone though, otherwise you should copy and paste the ISBN number into google and just look at all the options. Also wait until after the first day or whenever they email you the syllabus, that should tell you whether the book is actually required or not
@maddieroxx4eva7 жыл бұрын
Used bookstores in the area where your university is are gems. Trust, they're up on the books that students need and are trying to buy them before the start of the new school year, as often times that's their best business. Also some university student associations run a consignment book centre and you should always check there first before going to the bookstore (including Amazon and similar places).
