Many Opera experts have coincided that Callas had an ugly, dark and metallic voice, her high notes are so bothering. it seems you don't know Norman, Price, Tebaldi, Freni, Peters, Gruberova, Milanov, Dessay, Popp, Serra, Moffo, etc, etc, these were really beautiful voices!. Callas maybe could be the best actress but the best singer, NEVER! ...

Edita is considered one of the best Queens of the Night and Coloratura Soprano ever, she continued singing until she had 70 years old and Callas lost her voice at the age of 50 :D ! ... Price, Norman, woofy? .. Price was one of the best Aidas! .. Norman was one of the best Wagnerian's! ...No, no!, now I can understand why you like the ugly voice of Callas. @Barone Vitellio Scarpia nop, the best Queens of the Night are Luciana Serra and Diana Damrau, The best Aida is Price, Kirsten Flagstad yes could be but Norman was absolutely stunning as Wagnerian. Yes, Callas lost her ugly voice when she was 50 and for that reason she was depressed and died at 54. Callas's Life always was controversial, polemical, scandalous, and her voice showed her sadness. Callas never gonna be the best, NEVER!.

Adrian Vargas yes, I was just thinking the same. I’m new to opera. I’ve been spending days listening to versions of this beautiful piece. I think that this is the first one that truly reflects the story and I can easily imagine that this is the voice of the young girl singing to her father. She sings beautifully and simply - without trying to convince people that she can.

It’s only watching her live that I think people have issues because of that weird thing with her jaw that she does on the really high notes, looks like she’s sticking her tongue through the bottom lip and curling her lip in. Lovely voice otherwise honestly just looks annoying live

@@rubi588 HI: Opera singers are trained, and they know how to use the instrument they have, that is their mouth and throat and all to create beautiful sounds. It is not something to say that looks odd. she is not speaking, but singing. That is how they use their instrument, which is God Given. If you look at other professionally trained singers, you will note that they have similar traits. It is what they do and it may look strange, but they are trained.

Tender, intimate "O mio babbino caro." Loving and caressing. It's a different expression from most other sopranos' interpretation. but just as beautiful and impressive. In her time she was a magnificent singer and I still like her very much.

Aside from her typically sublime performance I noted that Ms. Battle curtsied when she took the stage, which I found to be very charming. That, her impeccable carriage, and her elegant attire all exuded class. How many female performers still do that in the world of classical music? By way of contrast, Yuja Wang often appears onstage dressed like a performer in a Las Vegas lounge act, which does a disservice to the music that she plays, the composer, the audience and, most of all, herself.
