I definitely saw a trend of "man repellant" makeup on my socials, which sometimes did incorporate the graphic liner you mentioned! I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing more anti-facial recognition makeup this year, and maybe more cyber punk elements generally. The sister trend to that could incorporate elements of medieval revival - like peasant punk or something? I'm picturing making medieval pieces out of thrifted fabric, visible mending, embroidery and other personal touches. The practicality of clothing from the past but reimagined for the current moment. I've also been noticing folks talking about how you can't expect to have a personal style if you're just following microtrends (and it's bad for the environment and also your soul), so my dream is that we'll be seeing more people leaning into personal style in general - I also won't be satisfied until everyone is shopping all secondhand!

In one of your videos you said you would address the House Story when you get to 100k. well you have 100k, Id love to see a video explaining your home and its design. I'm personally feeling a shift towards being more spooky and creepy. Maybe it's because I watched Nosferatu twice. Maybe it's because everything feels like it's falling apart. Anyways, that's my prediction. I'm going to be haunted this year.

Since green is my favorite color, I always notice green popularity. And I will say this. A shade of green is always popular. It just depends on the shade. Sometimes it’s emerald, or hunter, or Sage, or mint, or moss, or slime, or neon, or camo green.

2025 - year of the GOTHIC from medieval to modern, it’s getting dark creepy and maybe romantic (in a Jane Eyre kinda way)
@nefertitimontoya13 сағат бұрын
I actually think it's going to lean more whimsical medieval than gothic. Like stars and capes and poofy silhouettes. I think it'll be in response to a dark time, so we'll dress lightly? Love the energy of this comment tho
@nerdmaid1240Сағат бұрын
I agree. There’s definitely a gothic vibe coming, but like you say more ‘creeping round a gothic manor’ than it has been. Isn’t there an adaptation of Wuthering Heights promised this year? It’s the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth this year too, and lots of adaptations and events are afoot here in the UK. I feel like that’s going to have an impact as well.

2025 predictions: I hate to say it but I reckon we'll see more of a move towards conservative fashion trends. In times of economic hardship, we tend to see lowered hems, so I bet we'll see a lot of maxi silhouettes. A return of skinny, white, blonde ideals. More minimalism and corporate vibes. Maybe we'll see a counter culture vibe against this? It'd be nice.

I've noticed this year a HUGE shift in people caring about natural fibers and being anti polyester, even retailwise I've noticed there is maybe ever so slightly less polyester and places pushing natural fiber keywords on items get get that sale.. But definitely way more people have started to wake up and join the natural fibers mostly club and I think it will continue on.

Two options for 2025 (for the fashion girlies): Even more of the extravagant, over the top, whimsigoth, medieval-inspired vibe. Many layers, many necklaces, perhaps a slight resurgence of 'wearing it wrong', in the sense that I can see people making outfits out of two skirts, a dress, three belts, and five scarves all worn in unconventional ways. But the other thing I'm thinking -- which is more of a shot in the dark -- is a kind of minimalist punk. Dark and rebellious, but in less of a spikes and plaid way and in more of an evil sorcerer in the woods, many layers of black with slight tattering, intentionally ugly makeup, intentionally angry vibes way. They're mean, but they're *right*, ya know? I really just think we're all gonna go hard into wearing fairy tale cosplay, it seems :P
@nefertitimontoya13 сағат бұрын
I 100% agree with wearing it wrong!! People are going to find new uses for old garments and get creative with it. A shirt will no longer be just a shirt. It'll be so postmodern

@interface53899 сағат бұрын
I think this is an safe one but I’m expecting more visible mending and particularly more frankensteined second hand clothing, I’m talking like mixed fabrics, textures stitched together in either a patchwork or blocky manner with the aim for contrast and textural interest. I think this could easily be a way to allude to more causal wear from the 80’s and 90’s with lots of button ups, blouses or suits being utilized while being physically remixed in a way that feels both borrowed and fresh. Another thing I can see making it big is flared, oversized, or otherwise ill fitted outfits, tactical or cyberpunkesqe pieces intended to really disrupt a persons natural silhouette, all in a similar vein as the anti-facial recognition makeup as others have predicted. I think these two can go together especially in the case of converting items intended to be worn from one way to another such as cargo pants being altered to function as sleeves ect. Personally I’m coming from a very exasperated and fed up with capitalism and overconsumption perspective as my predictions emphasize both secondhand and altered items to reclaim that frustration as a form of expression, while still trying provide a vibe of semi hopeful endurance.

Love all your content Kathleen but I especially love your trend content because you really have a unique perspective and honestly I believe a sixth sense for this stuff. I tracked a lot of your predictions for last year on my What’s Next 2024 Pinterest board, and boy was the met gala a feast of 3D florals, Schiaparelli-esque metals and another I was tracking which was embellishment. Even tho we didn’t see the card shark come to fruition in quite the way you predicted, I did notice an uptick in playing card motifs, especially in the gold charm world. both new and vintage cold playing card charms were hot tickets this year! Feel like I’m still stewing on 2025, but I have seen a few things crop up that are giving Slavic folk dress vibes? I feel like this links in to the return of boho everyone is on about (and tbh I could not be less interested in the Chloe runway version, but a Slavic take on it?? That seems pretty cool to me). And this was driven home for me more when I saw nosferatu, and while all the costumes are amazing front to back, the costumes of the villagers in Transylvania and some of count orlocks hats are VIBESSSSSSSSSS. Also like a Slavic boxy fur hat maybe is the evolution of the Cawley studio shearling hat that has been so viral and now duped into obvlion? That’s my thought that’s bubbling lol

Not sure if it's just me but I'm seeing a trend of...no trend. The folks around me of all ages are just wearing what they want. Mixing styles, wearing old favourites with newer pieces in colours that make them happy and in themes of comfort and nostalgia. This could just be me, but I’m hoping some trends next yr are more visible mending, anti-men makeup/styling, more chunky and bubble-like silver jewelry, full send on medieval armor sets and honestly spooky vibes all around. Reading the comments, here is my updated predictions: -medieval revival -"wearing it wrong" (as another commenter put it)/atypical layering/using what you have in unique ways -utilitarian embellishments (belts, harnesses, pockets, metal) -neutral colours (either pastel or dark) -structured or unique silhouettes -celestial themes (idk maybe a new piece of media will come out, we're hungry for a new symbol)

for 2025, i'm thinking a lot of combining sport-wear or workwear (so there's still hope for boxing lol) with other recent trends (coquette, ballet, even knits & crochets?). i've seen some stuff like this on runways, especially ready to wear, but also people may be less likely to buy new things in coming years and will experiment more with combining what they already have from recent years in ways that juxtapose them and make them exciting and new again.

With American tariffs on anything coming in from China and thus Temu and fast fashion going up in price upto 40%, I think there will be a shock and awe peroid of jeans and t-shirts and total simplicity in the masses. This year I'm thinking some sort of functional evolution -- like mainstreamification of Nightcore, utility wear, athleisure but for specific sports. I think added belts, pockets, harnesses, and other details are ready for a comeup as a tiptoe out of minimalism. This kinda aligns with knightcore too. Also layering in unconventional ways -- tank tops on top of button ups, scarves on skirts, that sort of thing. I'm really hoping for more objects as clothes like waffle berets or egg bags or cloud sweaters. Like unique statement clothes that feel cartoonish and surreal I also hope we're going to see some vintage creep in, like 30s/40s. Businessy, refined, sustainable fabrics and timeless structured pieces
@violetbyers681810 сағат бұрын
I feel like as some people have touched on, being "anti trends" has been a trend and I'm sure it will continue. Maybe going off of that, obviously upcycling and repairing has always and will always be a thing but maybe we'll end up seeing more of that. With our ~horrible economy~ and more and more people trying to do no-buys and low-buys I imagine there will be more people working with what they have and refreshing items, even if its just fresh cut off shorts. So in that way I'm thinking rugged worn looks may be more prevalent. Hobo chic ? Is that bad? I think endearing. I'm going for hobo chic
@izzysiedman545514 сағат бұрын
As an evolution of the minimalism we started to see in 2024 I think we're gonna see more clothing with interesting structure--big shoulder, weird sleeves, inverse necklines, etc--but in mostly solid, classic colors. Also thinking the skinny scarf will be back for the year. Alternative to the wrestling boot, maybe a rainboot as a more frequent fashion item.

I have two trend predictions for this year. The first is that medieval/ renaissance fashion is going to keeping getting more popular especially in the realm of 1960s/70s fashion. A few specific ideas within this is chain mail, colorful tights, leather laced flats, Juliet caps, and bronze electroplated jewelry. My second prediction this year is the rise of "Little Guys" or "Creatures" in things like key chains, hats, patches, painted clothes, ect. We are already seeing it with the trend of Labubu and other blind boxes. Its been a trend in j-fashion and cosplay culture for awhile so I think it could make into into main culture fashion. Maybe from the music industry. Personally, I would be curious to see the combination of medieval and "creatures" into something fun and wacky.

Interestingly, I'm seeing some iterations of military coat liners in the same vein as the one you picked up in Japan. It's cold here in Houston so everyone is too bundled up to see a lot of style, per se. Lots of pastels, tho, like minty fresh colors (think Tobe Nwigwe). Barrel pants and utilitarian pants - lots of pockets. Practical, cozy, fuzzy. It'll be interesting to see what the trends end up being this year....

i think whimsigoth is going to remain big and i think we're going to see some different iterations of it--a lot of people have talked about the sort of whimsigoth-->medievalesque pipeline (coinciding nicely with the rise of chainmail) but i think we might also see some people start to shift towards some like, gothic heroine inspired looks with like long flowing hair, white nightgown-esque dresses etc. (which i think also coincides with the continued popularity of coquette) stemming from movies like nosferatu

My fashion prediction for the upcoming year is something thats a subversion on some sort of authoritative body's uniform. Im thinking a take on the military wear of the y2k years like with big chunky camo cargo pants or even a subversion of corporate wear kinda like how the band Green Day did it with neckties back then. I just really think the divisiveness we are already feeling is going to crop up in our fashion in SOME kind of way.. Ooh even like a cyberpunk dystopian tech wear situation is something I could really see happening (which Im kinda hoping for lol)

Thinking flowy skirts, printed flowers on tops/socks/scarves, bold lip colours and barely there skin makeup, monochromatic coloured outfits, and colours like light pink and butter yellow to spotlight. I've been noticing black nails making a comeback, so people becoming more comfortable with all black nails, eyeshadow, and lipstick! A very feminine approach reminiscent of the early 2000's pop culture we, Gen Z & Millennials, grew up with

I hope the French tuck will be abandoned in 2025 and a less sloppy aesthetic will replace it. Nice quality leather belt perhaps?

I don;t know about anyone else but I'm deep in the Medieval Fantasy/Hobbitcore fashion world and I really don't see at least my little corner changing! I wonder if this revert back to fantasy will be a trend more mainstream this year as.. well.. the horrors make us have to stay whimsical!

Thrifting is a bit like finding pieces of driftwood and using them to buoy our bodies & spirits. If we assemble a flotilla of thrift we can craft our own halcyon.

I think this year we're going to be looking back at protest movements of the past, not just for organising tactics but for style inspiration, whether that's black turtlenecks and leather trench coats or deconstructed punk items with a political message. I think retro protest tees like the Gay's The Word "Pits and Perverts" shirt or any of the Act Up designs will show up in styling. Maybe even some of those pink knitted cat ear hats from the last time will find their way out of the attic.
