I get a mental picture of her sitting there with her Oldsmobile, still smoking, telling the cop that he'd better watch HIMSELF when he takes that turn. Love the playfulness of this song. I saw Kathy when she was just starting out. She did a fund raiser for West Aurora High School and since my kids went there I went to see her. Been a fan ever since. This song is my favorite.

I live in Poca, WV. I’m about 10 miles out of Charleston. Kathy actually grew up in Cross Lanes, WV (about 5 miles from where I live). Glad you featured one of our own. ;-)

Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses is the song that got me listening to Country music. First heard it in a friend's Chevy Nova. I love her!!

I once owned a 68 Chey Impala. Had a 327 that my mechanically inclined brother and a friend of his built the engine from the block up. By the time I owned it several years years later, it had lost some compression. But that growl would've made King Kong jealous. You could hear and feel me coming down the street. When I first had it, I would occasionally get pulled over for "display of excessive power". Funny thing is, I never opened her up except where it was legal. But I suppose the small town police had to get used to NOT pulling someone over. Wish I could have kept it longer. Peace!

Love Kathy Matea great singing voice The one song that guy always immediately connected to her is 18 wheels and a dozen roses is such a great love song about the love between a long time trucker and his wife The husband and the song is finally coming home for good and retired from being a trucker I agree 455 is definitely pretty powerful engine combination for sure with that great American muscle car Love it when she says it was made to burn you could imagine it mean burn rubber burn gas burner of the asphalt on the road as going way fast pass the other car is racing against

I can't recall the year but I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Kathy Mattea on the University of Maine campus. It was Orono, Maine. Radney Foster opened for her and it was one of the best concerts that to date I've ever been to. She was having just as much fun as her fans were. I miss her music a lot!!

Love your Reaction.... Great song, great artist! Kathy is still touring and still making great music. Didn’t you mean she worked and toured with George Strait? (tho she did a duet with George Jones). Thanks for choosing 455 Rocket. The video won a CMA! GO Mounties!!

Sometimes Less is More. Incredible well done to Kathy. 10 out of 10. Wish I wrote this song. I had to run right out and buy the CD. Can't wait to hear it on my Macintosh MA 230. It's going to push air.

She had a lot of great hits in the 80s and 90s. One of the top female vocalists of that time. My dad’s work had a greatest hits CD of hers that was full of good songs. Check out: Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses Come From the Heart Love at the Five and Dime Where’ve You Been Time Passes By Whole Lotta Holes

Gillian Welch and David Rollins wrote this. And many other great songs. I hope I spelled their names correctly. You could have commented on the slide. Most versions of this song, and there are many, use harp or sax.

Terrific reaction video! I'm a longtime Kathy Mattea fan. As someone already pointed out, she is actually from Cross Lanes, WV, though she was born at the hospital in South Charleston. She grew up on Sun Valley Drive, about a mile from where I grew up a decade earlier on Tyler Mountain Road. Kathy has so many memorable, wonderful songs, it's impossible to pick which ones to share for you to get a broader impression. I posted this one myself many years ago and it is beloved by many fans and music lovers who never heard of KM....as are countless others. Check out "Standing Knee-Deep in a River (dying of thirst)." kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4jcd4pnqM52rbM

And "Where've You Been" written by her husband Jon Vezner and friend Don Henry. This won Grammies for the songwriters and for Kathy herself. It'll make you tear up, and it's a true story about Jon's grandparents. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKOQmHSNptd6q5Y

We were at my son's house the other day, and he had a well-known car auction on tv. Those 57 Chevys, $80,000, - I would take any one of them for Christmas. My first car was a 50 Ford. I still dream about it. Anyway, Kathy does a sweet song "18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses." This was fun.

On that 455 rocket song there is a video that is really cool oldomsbiles we’re no joke they don’t have that rocket on there for nothin and don’t forget they were solid steel they were big on the dirt track 53 was killer 55-56 model j was fantastic and l knew a 56 Buick that was 6 seconds to 60 and don’t forget we are talking 4000 pounds and that movie cars had that 52 Hudson hornet that car did lap record of 105 and that was fast that is why hank snow did a song 90 mph down a dead end street because very few cars could break 100 back then Hudson hornets were so fast the cops went out and bought them to keep up with the moonshine runners and Chrysler made a 413 with dual quads in 61 imperial and Oldsmobile in middle 60s had ballenced 455 in delta 88

I saw a car that could only be described as a frankenstein, Mitsubishi 3000GT with 426 Hemi in it, rode in it once, all wheel drive with a sports car suspension, scary as f***l but it was one hell of a ride, without any work on the motor it dynode at just under 600hp

@Jaimeson Meza You have Martinez back and that's gonna be tough for us since running QBs always give us problems. Our starting MLB is out and your former 3rd-string QB might be our starter tonight. OTOH your all-world RG or RT is sitting this one out to prepare for the draft, and your LT or LG is out and you've got two freshmen starting so we'll get some pressure on Matinez. Our problem will be if he escapes the pocket and gashes us for big gains. Vegas has you as 6.5-pt. favorites so you might be right, but if a few things go our way we can win this game.
