@@91GT347 Well, of course the studio version is going to sound better and have a different feel, but as far as live performances go, this one has pretty decent audio. All the instruments and vocals were clear and sat correctly in the mix. Plus the rendition was well done. The vocals were excellent for live and the guitar solo was nearly identical to the studio version. A lot of times that isn't the case live.

Sebastian Bach was 6’4” of pure hotness! He was a big heart throb back then and was in every magazine. But he was classically trained and later did work on Broadway. I met him a few times, he loves his fans and is a big sweetheart.

Love you guys - so entertaining! Skid Row would be one of my top 5 rock bands of the era, and Sebastian Bach is a top 3 rock vocalist - all-time great. For another power ballad, and a master class is vocal performance, try Wasted Time. In my mind, Sebastian's best vocals. For some ass-kicking rock, do Monkey Business.

I agree that live shows aren't the best for first time listeners, but I guarantee that wasn't even one of the first few songs they did-- and Baz is hyper as all get out! One concert vid, he was hanging upside down from the lighting rig-- after he got a piggy back ride from the (roadie/bodyguard?)😊 Baz was and still is quite the personality and one helluva entertainer! You want harder? Monkey Business, Slave to the Grind, Mud Kicker, well, the whole second album-- tho' first one has 18 and Life, Youth Gone Wild, etc. Third album is lesser known-- and underrated, IMO. You want to hear amazing vocals (even more than his usual): "Wasted Time" (Baz wrote lyrics for his friend Steven Adler-- drummer for GnR). And also wrote lyrics for "In a Darkened Room" (I don't like to think too much on that one-- still, a haunting song). Anyhow, really hope you do some more SR reactions-- love to see younger generations enjoying a band that should have been so much bigger than they were! Especially since they had the best rock vocalist, hands down! IMO...😏 Take good care, ladies!😊

I see in the comments talking about studio vs live. It depends on the song. Some recommend studio 1st then live. Here are a couple of examples of studio 1st ... A Whiter Shade Of Pale... Stairway to Heaven... Nights In White Satin/Late Lament.... Then do the live version. There is something about each one of these studio versions that is not in any live version no matter how great it is. One You haven't done is Little River Band ...It's A Long Way There (Remastered 2022) 8:43 ... Live versions are missing the beginning and the end but have different guitar solos. Both of them great. So I recommend both.

18 and life (studio version) you might want to check out. This isn't a metal band though. This is a melodic rock band. His voice has some grit, but they never go crazy with the screaming. I don't like that stuff anyway. You should also check out the studio version of this song, just so you can see why it was #1 on the charts for so long in the 90s. The studio version is usually the radio version.

"I remember you" became the biggest hit single (#6 on the US singles chart) by Skid Row... From their 1989 debut album 'Skid Row', which sold 5x platinum in the US and made their Canadian singer Sebastian Bach a rock star. However, their reign was very brief... Skid Row was formed in New Jersey in the 80's by Dave 'Snake' Sabo (guitar) and Rachel Bolan (bass) w/ Scotti Hill (guitar) and Rob Affuso (drums)... but the addition of Sebastian Bach (lead vocals) truly made them blossom musically. Signing w/ Bon Jovi's management (Guitarist Snake was friend w/ Jon Bon Jovi of Bon Jovi), Skid Row was contracted to Atlantic Records and released their debut album in 1989... They were heavier than bands like Poison... Bon Jovi... Winger... and MTV heavily promoted the singles - 'Youth gone wild' ... '18 and life'... 'Piece of me'... w/ the ballad 'I remember you' becoming a huge single. Unfortunately, the contract that Skid Row had signed gave their album's royalties away to Jon Bon Jovi in exchange for getting the band promoted... Despite selling 5x platinum, the members of Skid Row were not rewarded financially from record sales and singer Sebastian Bach openly voiced his dissatisfaction at the time w/ Bon Jovi. In 1991, Skid Row decided to go for a heavier album 'Slave to the grind'... Sebastian Bach's father David Bierk painted the album's cover. It charted at #1 in the US and sold 2x platinum as they toured w/ Pantera... More hit singles came - 'Monkey business' ... 'Wasted time' ... 'Slave to the grind' ... 'In a darkened room'... Another radio hit was the ballad 'Quicksand Jesus'. Skid Row released a covers EP 'B-side ourselves' in 1993 to fulfill their contract w/ Jon Bon Jovi cos they still were not getting royalties from record sales. Because of 90's grunge rock, Skid Row saw their profile fall because they were an 80's rock band... and internal band problems delayed the 3rd album 'Subhuman race' released in 1995... MTV and radio refused to promote it and it sold poorly. Skid Row were forced to tour clubs into '96... Conflicts between the band and Sebastian Bach led to the singer being fired in 1996 from Skid Row... drummer Rob Affuso was also let go. Sebastian Bach launched a solo career in 1999 playing Skid Row songs live... his latest studio album 'Child within the man' was released in 2024. In 2000, Skid Row reformed w/ Johnny Solinger (vocals) joining bassist Rachel Bolan and guitarists Dave 'Snake' Sabo and Scotti Hill... but it was impossible to replace a talent of Sebastian Bach's caliber and subsequent Skid Row albums like 'Thickskin' (2003) and 'Revolutions per minute' (2006) failed commercially... Eventually, singer Johnny Solinger was fired in 2015 for alcohol abuse... he passed away in 2021 from liver failure at age 55. Skid Row attempted touring w/ new singers, including Z.P. Theart (ex- Dragonforce vocalist)... but they decided on Erik Gronwall (vocals) in 2022 and released the album "The gang's all here" ... However, Gronwall quit Skid Row in 2024 and Lizzy Hale (of Halestorm) had to fill in on vocals for a few shows.

You want harder? Try Youth Gone Wild, Slave to the Grind, Monkey Buisness, or Piece of Me. Piece of Me live at Budokon is fantastic. Monkey Buisness live at Wembley is a stellar performance btw. It's one of my favorite of their harder songs. And the vocal runs and high notes are crazy on that one. Sebastian was and still is a versatile singer with amazing range and the reason it was requested you start with a ballad more than likely, is because this specific ballad is one of the most famous songs, and shows off Sebastian's range beautifully. Especially if you listen to the official version. If you want an even more impressive ballad there are two specific ones that show off even more of his range. One is Wasted Time, The Other is Quicksand Jesus.

No issues with live music at all, but imo when hearing a song for the first time it should be the original studio version. We hear that first and end up liking it and then wanting to hear a live version from there to compare and see how well they perform a good song live. No doubt this would have been epic if you were there, but getting quality audio from a live performance can be sketchy.
