Greatest female swimmer of all-time but it doesn't get any easier as you age, especially for those in distance and mid-distance events. She was over 17 seconds off her WR in the 1500, Titmus is very close in the 800 and better in the 400, and she's no longer a contender in the 200. Thorpe tried to reinvent himself as a 100m-200m swimmer in his late-20s but it will get more difficult.

I wonder if she can 5-peat for the 800 meter free since she started early at 15 year old

@@1966bluemax A 4-peat would be amazing. She's already 8-9 seconds off her WR and Titmus was only just over a second behind. She really can't afford to lose any more time. Katie Grimes is just 15 and was only 6-7 seconds back in the final and 3-4 sec behind if you take her time from the heats. They'll probably be about the same next year and if Grimes keeps it up might be better in 2023 and 2024.

Yes no doubt Titmus I s talented but she will almost be as old as KL is now in 2024. thus an older distance swimmer. It is not a given that her times will go down but may indeed go up. Not to mention Katie’s great swim in the relay, fastest split in a silver medal effort. Even tho her times were down, she was still able to close out the 800. Katie Grimes certainly may develop into a worthy successor but it is Impossible to predict the future yet the next worlds may provide a hint

@@elsanystrom350 Yes, Titmus will be 23, Ledecky 27. Titmus' times will probably hold about steady/may slightly get worse in the 400 and 800 in Paris while Ledecky's will probably rise. I think Grimes has a shot to be better than both in 2024. She's not that far off at 15 and should continue to improve if injuries/motivation aren't an issue. There are also other swimmers who could rise and be a factor.

She is the definitely one of the greatest swimmers of all time, but Titmus is better now and she hasn’t even peaked yet. I am not sure if a fourth Olympic is a good idea. Hopefully, she will concentrate on fewer events.

Agree, 2028 will be hard. Born in March 1997, so that's 31-32. It's not uncommon to see elite 50m-200m specialists keep going into their 30s, but Ledecky's top events are 400/800/1500. She lost the 400 and those wide margins she used to win the 800 and 1500 are getting pretty thin and she's way off her WR times.

@@tenningale sad but true , but what is really interesting is her time in Tokyo 4x200 was slower by 0.02 from her rio 4x200also her 400 m free in Tokyo was her second best after rio that’s what she said , so do you thing that she need to drop some events? 200,400,800,1500 with the relay that’s a lot and you can see she was tired from her 200m final Also her coach is not the best in my opinion I heard in 2016 and 2020 she had 2 coaches but over all I want the best for her.(eng is not my first language be gentle)

@@SH-co8de Her 200 and 400 times were good. Those will be the last to slip. I think by 2023 Worlds and Paris 2024 Titmus will probably stay around the same time in the 400 while Ledecky will probably lose a small bit of time. Ledecky probably won't win the 200 or 400, but will have a lot of value on a 200 relay. It's the 800 and 1500 that will get harder because of the endurance requirements. She's still the best in those events, but not by much and her times are likely going to continue to fall. No one else is close to her world records in the 800 or 1500 so it's all a matter if someone else is able to catch up (e.g., Grimes, Quadarella, Titmus in the 800; Sullivan in the 1500). And new swimmers will emerge in the next 2-3 years. It's a weird situation because the events her times will stay strong in (200, 400) she's not the best in anymore and the events she's still the best in are going to be the hardest to keep up.
