Katie never asked, he brought it up, then stated it like fact not his opinion. Karl is just looking to win, not love. The group date was about winning the group date rose not learning more about Katie. Karl saw what happened between Aaron and Cody. Katie went to Aaron as a white knight and Katie ate it up, so Karl was just repeating the process.
