This interview is wonderful! Most of what you discussed is what I have been ranting to my mother yesterday and today (my mother is 98, I am 71, and I am her sole caregiver, so I don't get out in public much these days). I heard validation of my thoughts in your discussion. My background includes having taught college sociology and anthropology classes (among other things) and I have seen the effects of the No Child Left Behind movement and the toll it has taken as far as teaching critical thinking skills. The problem is no where near as simple as that, but by missing the teaching of these skills, our adult population is handicapped when it comes to making informed decisions. Media literacy builds on that--it is a major part of critical thinking and is, I believe, where we most need critical thinking skills. There is a problem and it isn't new, but it has been exasperated as these skills have been taught less and less. I believe the only way for our country to retain its status as a democracy is to help people learn these skills. The website you referenced is an excellent one and I have recommended it to students. However, unless we teach critical thinking skills, our move toward AI will cause major problems. AI is designed to gather information from the internet (which is not always accurate), but unless people learn to analyze and apply from that information, it does us no good in terms of growth. OK, off my soapbox. I really wanted to say thank you to both of you for sharing this discussion.

Wow @Katie - what a civic service you’re providing. I know you won’t see (or care about) this msg but been following you and REALLY like your raw and no-nonsense style. Have learned quite a bit from your videos. PLEASE keep this up, especially now. 🙏

Well it does very much resemble the world during the mafia heydays of the 20th Century, where everything was corrupted by crime and organized crime control was taken as a given. No way Donald Trump makes up 12 Million Votes to win by 5 million votes this time without mafia infiltration of the voting systems in the swing states... Merrick Garland needs to put his pencil and his Sodoku puzzle book down for 5 minutes and investigate this with the 2 months he has left.

The divide between trump voters and Harris voters is bewildering. Harris voters are terrified and trump voters are elated and relieved. It feels surreal. 4:51 I'm putting all my chips on the constitution holding up... But with no guardrails, no branches of government to hold him in check, i don't know... I just don't know.

I'm Canadian and we are afraid of having to review our free trade agreement with Trump AGAIN like last time. Plus his words about tariffs are worrying. I also think that this too shall pass ( I hope) in that people will see that he is not the answer to their concerns in the end. The hate will kill them.

It may behoove us to think about Trump's ancestry with his paternal genetics. Germany wouldn't let Donald Trump’s grandfather Friedrich return to Germany - he unsuccessfully petitioned the government of Bavaria (now southeast Germany) not to deport him and his family. Donald's family history reveals early Alzheimer's - his mental state is iffy....

We have an electorate largely ignorant of facts and they don't know how the government works. We're screwed because of that. This was likely our last free election. Not sure how to survive now.

That is it. My friends in Canada can no longer watch it (plus we don't have a vote). We feel helpless in that way. Ppl are cancelling their NYT subscriptions and opting out of social media. I think that voting requires factual information and common sense and critical thinking. Trump is a boor - he will change term limits. I want to be positive. He won't change. He is rude and crude and so disrespectful. We have to admit that.

A family that is surviving paycheck to paycheck, is only bothered on how they will put food on the table. They are not bothered about policies. Trump kept saying that he will provide the food. Harris kept saying how bad Trump is a person. I did not hear her say how she is going to put food in the common person's mouth. That's why Trump got so many votes.

I really appreciate your coverage Katie…it’s just about all I can take at this point. But this guest…it just sounds like we’re getting a civics lesson from Glinda the Good Witch. I don’t disagree with what she’s saying. But I think messengers like her are part of the reason Trump won. It’s not the content, it’s the delivery. Same thing with like the “Pod Save America” guys. Pod Saved Nothing. Over-educated, white, privileged voices are not the ones that are making any difference, clearly. I am all blue all day but I understand why so many people find the lib media insufferable.

Let's not all give up listening to highly educated people explaining things to us because some people don't understand or like it. Also shame on you for suggesting that anyone's race should disqualify them from delivering important information to people who benefit from hearing it.
