This taste test was almost too easy this week. We were vibing and the food was rockin'. All-in-all, this was a fun and delicious taste test. I have yet another question at the end of the video if you want to respond in the comments. I have been loving reading more about you all and connecting with you.

You two are such a sweet couple and Benson makes three!! He sure is growing up fast. Enjoy this time as it really does fly by. My Mom's poundcake with her unique cooked frosting brings back so many memories. She made it a couple times a month and sliced it thin so it would last in the fridge. And, then there's making pierogis for Christmas every year with my aunties. My faves were the sauerkraut. Thanks for asking, Katie. Nice memories. God bless you all. 💕💕💕

My Mom was from Germany and she made the most delicious sauerkraut- cooked for hours with onions pork apples and caraway seeds! We’d have it with mashed potatoes and hots dogs or her dumplings! Her German potatoe salad was delicious too. ❤️

Spaetzel. My mom used to hand make spaetzel and use it in soups and stews. I love the toothiness of the noodles. It brings me right back to the kitchen table with flour spread on it, the sound of the old wooden rolling pin and the smell of the dough as we rolled it out. I remember it feeling like it took forever to cut out all the noodles, but the end result was well worth it. Sometimes my mom would cut wider noodles for stews, which were my favorite.

My mom made “sopa ” with cut up hot dogs. Sopa seems to be a Mexican recipe with lots of variations. They all seem to have the fried/browned raw pasta and “cooked” tomato paste in common. My mom’s sopa was browned macaroni noodles, a can of tomato paste, hot dogs, salt and water. I still make it, but without hot dogs, and I add tons of veggies like mirepoix, zucchini, corn and less water (w/better than bouillon added) to make a sauce-y pasta. Then when it is done cooking, I mix in a bunch of chopped cilantro and a pack of shredded cheddar. Pure nostalgia and comfort food ❤

Grilled cheese with tomato soup takes me straight back. My mom would make it for lunch all the time after she'd put my sister down for her nap and we'd hang out and talk. We also have a family birthday cake that's very nostalgic for me. Great question this week, Katie.

I have 2 things that bring me straight to my childhood. Beanie weenies, baked beans with cut up hot dogs in them. You can buy them that way now, but we made ours. The other is ‘tomato steak’. My mom would buy some type of cheap flat steak and add a can of tomatoes. She would cook it in the slow cooker all day. We would have mashed potatoes and peas with it. I never really liked it, because we had it A LOT. I think I’d like it now just for the nostalgia.

My answer is probably pasta with just butter and grated parmesan! My mom would make this for me all the time, especially when I was sick or before every single dance recital I had. Its such a great comfort food still and always brings me back.

Butterscotch pie! It's just instant butterscotch pudding mix and a store bought Oreo pie crust. It is so good! We used to have it every Thanksgiving growing up. I make it every year now and it takes me back. It's also one of my nephew's highlights of Thanksgiving. He gets so excited for it. ☺️

Fideo! My grandma made it when I was little. It’s a Latin dish, a tomato/brothy soup with short spaghetti like pasta. She made hers so good and I can’t quite replicate her recipe. It’s a simple dish but I’d rather have it than any other meal on earth. She’s very elderly now and can no longer stand at the stove but I have my memories. I hope one day I can make mine as good as hers.

The one thing that takes me back to my childhood is the 2 layer yellow cake with chocolate frosting. My Big Mama almost always had a yellow cake with chocolate frosting underneath her cake plate! Angel food cake is my flashback to my grandma's farmhouse, where I spent my summers. She and I would bake an angel food cake and my job was to separate the whites from the yolks. That was AFTER I went out and gathered the eggs from the chickens. Then I would get to beat the egg whites with the hand-crank egg beater. After the cake was done, we would add fresh strawberries, from her garden, and homemade whipped cream, from her cows of course! I've never bought or made an angel food cake since then that could live up to the taste of the cake grandma and I made together. 🍓🥚 💕

My mother was a very bland cook but I did like her signature dish which she called Glop. It's simply browned hamburger with a can of tomato soup and add cooked rigatoni pasta. She used no seasoning, but as kids we loved it. If I was to make it now, I would spice it up.

Dulce de leche. My mom is from Argentina and it’s a staple there. Great on ice cream or to dip fruit in. When I wouldn’t take my medicine as a young child, my mom would sometimes hide it in a spoonful of dulce de leche so I could get it down. Haagen dazs , Breyers and many other brands carry a dulce de leche flavored ice cream, but, on another level is the haagen dazs churro plus dulce de leche flavor. So rich!

Homemade ravioli bring me back to my childhood. My nonno would make them for holidays. We'd have a ton of appetizers, a full plate of ravioli, and then me, my cousin's and my brother would be allowed to get up from the table (normally forbidden) and would walk the mile loop around my Grandpa's block to see the mansion behind him and to digest our food. Then, when we returned, we'd have salad, a variety of vegetables, two to three types of meat, etc, followed by dessert. We "kids" still talk about those meals fondly.

I'm like you, Katie, I'm a vegetarian so I don't eat any of the comfort foods that remind me of my childhood, but it would be my mom's fried chicken and mashed potatoes (classic, I'm from the south!). But what I do enjoy now that always takes me back is when I have a whiskey sour - my dad would make one many nights when he'd get home from work, standing at the kitchen counter, talking over his day with my mom. The lemon ricotta cheese looked droolworthy but then I did a Google search and read the ingredients and it has a TON of artificial stuff with a massive amount of sugar. Something called GLUCOSE SYRUP. Probably like corn syrup? Probably OK to have ONE BITE but the last time I bought this many years ago I ate THE WHOLE ENTIRE DANG PACKAGE in less than 6 minutes. Seriously. My fave childhood memory of what my grandma used to make all the time for me and my siblings was "Pie Pie". She would make pie dough from scratch and put it onto a cookie sheet - really thin - then smear an entire stick of butter over the entire cookie sheet of pie dough, then sprinkle lots of cinnamon powder and white cane sugar all over it - very thick topping Bake it about 10 minutes. It would give the entire kitchen and dining room a heavenly scent from the baking cinnamon spice in the air. It was very buttery and sweet and the cinnamon spice just ICED IT FOR ME. I could eat an ENTIRE cookie sheet of Pie-Pie but my little brother and sister would gobble it up with me in a New York Minute.............my grandma also used to put cake batter on the cookie sheet, spread thin - then bake it. Then put a LOT of frosting on the cake - she knew us kiddies really liked CAKE FROSTING much more than the actual cake. When I was around 5 I could happily eat an entire cup of cake frosting BUT my parents never allowed it. Probably a miracle we did not all get childhood diabetes from these baked goods - but in the early 1960s what did we know? Nobody wore sunburn protection lotion, nobody wore car seats, nothing was "child proofed" We used to drink buckets of Tab soda pop with cyclamates that was taken off the market cos it cause cancer. We ate massive amounts of junk food, fast food, tons of red meat and what did we know? Somehow we SURVIVED all that crap............go figure! One mishap I had as a kiddie was eating that pink flossy stuff made from sugar spun into fluff - forgot what it was called - in England it is called "Fairy Floss" - it is the gunk they sell at the state fair - Candy Floss? I forgot the name but it is pink fluffy stuff made from sugar cooked at high heat and spun into a airy web of fluff. IT MADE ME BARF UP EVERYTHING within just five minutes of eating it. I think the intense amount of sugar was what made me vomit. Only ONE time I ate that stuff, never again - just the smell of it at the state fair makes me feel nauseous.

Oooh! I love this question. I have three answers for this one. First: similar yet different to you Katie, my parents used to make what they called "hamburger pie" - we'd use turkey though in those days because we didn't really do beef, and my mom and I became vegetarians together when I turned 13/14-ish. But it was that, mixed with spices and cream of mushroom soup my mom would make, and many veggies. That went on the bottom. On top, my mom would either do puff pastry & Bisquick (remember Bisquick?? Do they still make that??) And then a good cheddar cheese on top. Baked to goodness. I've remade it vegetarian with crumbles and it's so good. Second: those olive & cream cheese enchiladas, you already know!!! Last but not least: my dad would make me grilled cheese on bagels. Weirdly, blueberry bagels with cheddar was my favorite. 🤍

Unfortunately my momma wasn’t much of a cook due to her illness. However, she was a heck of a baker and her tune noodle casserole was bomb. Everything was made with the best that she could and with the best that she had.

I've never had Shepard's Pie and I'm Irish! (And Swedish 🇸🇪) Is the TJ's frozen version good? One night my Mumsy couldn't decide what to feed all 7 of us so she invented Pizza Casserole, which is out of this world😋🤤 It's basically a cheesy pizza (with beef) noodle casserole and of course it tastes like pizza🍕 The other memory I have is when we'd come home from school and she put warm jam tarts by the fire (homemade Pop Tarts❤️💜💙)

My grandmother's Ground beef and potatoe taco. She would cook the meat with the potatoes. Then she would stuff the tacos, use toothpicks to close and fry in vegetable oil. Top off with cheese, lettuce, chopped tomatoes. The best ever taco's🌮🌮🌮

😢 I want to get the pizza. Too bad you can’t start a mail service and ship them out. They sound fantastic. Grilled cheese or stuffed hotdogs with mustard sauce( wouldn’t eat hotdogs now) bring back so many memories. Isn’t it funny the things that make us smile. Have a wonderful week.😊

Everyone called this something different but we called it Hamburger Noodle Casserole. It was made stovetop and not baked so why casserole I have no idea. It’s like hamburger helper but made with ground beef, onions, green pepper, garlic, elbow noodles and last but not least tomato soup. Some people called it American Goulash. I’m from the Midwest so who knows.

My moms Swiss steak, mash potatoes and gravy. Had it every birthday. My dad didn’t really cook, but could make fudge without measuring anything. He learned it from watching his mom. I still think fudge is a food group !😆
