It's a shame that we live in a throw away time. People don't appreciate the quality of the furniture from years past. The craftsmanship of those items compared to the 'crapmanship' of today's pieces is a vast difference. Thank you for saving them one at a time.

People have been throwing away for centuries. The renaissance era was notorious for this... , every time fashion changes, the rich would throw things out, which were made by hand, and the poor score.

I feel the same. I open my KZbin, and it's a bunch of political videos. I watch both right-wing and left-wing channels to be well-informed, but the last few weeks have been intense. I was so happy to see Katie's video in my feed. I'm watching it and sort of relaxing and meditating before I meet my parents for breakfast. They have opposite political beliefs than mine, and my Dad is known to get upset and cut people out of his life for saying something he doesn't agree with. My son told him he had white privilege once, and my dad wouldn't speak to him for almost 2 years. It was during Covid. It was really sad.

Hey, Katie. This is my first time watching your channel, but it won't be the last. I just wanted to mention that there were some ceramic pots you brought home, and two pieces were for an African violet plant. They were a brown glaze. One piece goes inside the other. The top is solid (no holes but also no glaze), and the bottom pot has 2 holes on the rim (one on either side). I thought, if you still had both of those pieces, you might like to know that they go together as one. This is because African violet leaves turn brown if they get wet when watering, so they water the pots thru the holes in the bottom pot, then the pot with no glaze on the bottom is able to absorb water up to the plant in the top pot. Just an FYI. Thanks for a wonderful ride around your town! Keep up the great work! 😁👍

Missed that painted, ornate plantstand in white next to that broken down dresser. The cannonball head and foot board bed could be refinished for resale or turned into a bench. The round wicker chair you liked but had no cushion is not difficult to sell without the cushion. There are floor cushions that would also work that the buyer coukd buy. I would have grabbed those metal (or aluminum) chairs that were next to your maple veneer dresser. Of all your great haul, I'm excited to see the Art Deco vanity come back to life to its original glory! Switch the right top drawer to the left second draw and the new drawers can be accent pieces. Less pressure to make them exactly like the other drawers. Love what you do, and love going in these picking trips with you. It's two fold satisfaction! No matter what I see that I would pick up, it still saves me the work! giggle 🤭💌

I'm so excited to see all these new peices! I know they will make such fantastic upcoming projects for your videos! Definitely looking forward to seeing them as they get thier turn! You had an awesome haul! I'm always impressed by your ability to identify what type of wood a furniture piece is made of (Oak, Maple, Pine, etc) I know from doing a tiny bit of wood working that it takes a lot of practice but it's even harder to identify the species with a stain on it already. ❤

Upholstery is easy. Look on the bottom of any piece and find the little brads along the fabric line. These can be prayed out and then saved. Next pick and size your new cloth for the item that you want to use ..use new stuffing, your choice and fit the new fabric over the stuffing and using the brads tap them back in and then, if needed, trim...happy upholstering...😅❤

G'day Kate, I reckon if you lived in NSW Australia, you'd have an absolute ball picking all the kerbside piles. We get 6 per year, all we need to do is ring up and book it and then put the gear out 24hrs before. We've got blokes driving around the utes and trailers, and 2 tonne pantech trucks (I think you guys call 'em box trucks) picking through the flotsam and jetsam of people's lives and making an absolute killing on the scrap metal, recyclables, and furniture that would otherwise end up at the tip. I know some peeps that have managed to furnish their whole house from kerbside pick up piles... very eclectic decor 😏 Have heaps of fun giving those pieces a lease on life 😁 🙃🐨🇦🇺
