A tad green/olive pigment in your final mineral spirit wash or a little in your stain, will reduce the red, I do it when mahogany is too red and I need to knock it back some.. beautiful job!

When you say “pigment”….do you mean some sort if dye/coloring? Or a particular color if stain that has green/olive in it? Do you have a product/brand that you could recommend? I have a mahogany piece that I’m about to refinish & would love to reduce the redness in the wood. Thank you!

@@smcgill491just search KZbin for how to mix a custom wood toner.. and from there its trial and error, start in a area easy to deal with if you don't like your mix, like a bottom corner and go small..and stay away from stains with a red undertone. Wood dyes or resin tints work best for me..and wood conditioner is your best friend..

I think the choices you made were based on your personal space...so they were your perfect match for the rest of your space. I think that set was so lovely to begin with. You had good bones to work with. The pieces look very stylish. You have very good taste. Thank you for sharing. I have no work space at all to do refinishing. I am poor so I sometimes can afford great second hand. I moved to my present apartment. Hurricane Sandy came and we were all moved out temporarily. I went to my son's apartment...the roof caved in about two inches from my body so from there I stayed with a family for about two months. FEMA evaluated all the damage to our apartments and gave us some help. With that help, I fashioned a country cottage style home. Everything came together like a beautiful painting. Three years later, bed bugs arrived and decided to move in. I lost everything!!! I had to get a cot to sleep on, new pillows, and everything else. I have had the heebie-jeebies ever since...lol. Now I have a look that is made of palettes and odd bits and bobs from anywhere I could get them...free!!! If I could do what you do, then I could refinish and refine but I do get lots of compliments on my new look. Funny...how you can spend some money...have a great place...lose it...have nothing...and finally get something for nothing! I would love to be able to do what you do. I think it is so great to watch people transform and improve on whatever they can.

Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.

Wow!!!! Just seeing this video. I have the same shaped table, pottery barn, but was Preowned when I purchased it, but began Sanding, immediately realized it was not wood, but underneath same as yours was Seem to be wood, quality isn’t known, but painted over the top with chalk paint, and a clear coat, still not happy, I want to really get down to the of that top surface, thank you so much for this video. I believe that your table is made of red oak and white oak. This was an incredibly lucky find! I appreciate that you took the dark stain off of the table top, so that the beauty of the wood shows and the black sets it off nicely!!!

Looks amazing! Wipe on poly is just thinned down ordinary poly, so you need 2 to 3 times the coats to get equivalent cover. You might want to do 3 more coats on the top of the table for durability.

The wood showing and painting the lower parts of the table. Simply gorgeous. Im thinking purple/lavender from Country Chic.
