Thank you for this. I am a new nurse and will be starting on the MedSurg floor in a week. I’m both nervous and excited

I am a brand new LPN in the med sur/telemetry unit about to end my training program, and I still struggle with everything pretty much. How long it takes to feel confidence? I know its different for everyone, but any advices/suggestions? Anyone!? Thank you!

It takes months, honestly. The goal when you get off of orientation is to be able to handle the basics, while knowing what your resources are to dig into the situations you're unfamiliar with. It's not a goal for you to be at peak efficiency or skill when you get off of orientation, if that makes sense. You've got this!

So weird to talk aboht med surg all together like this. There are so many diffeent floors. Neuro post and pre op, gastrosurgical post and pre op, neurology, infection wards etc. Im not American so maybe there is something Im missing. But its very different patients on a surgical floor than a ward typically. Different procedures and work day as well
