Can you psychoanalyze Creed? 🤣 I think Ryan is the most narcissistic. Why does Michael have such hatred towards Toby?

Michael hated Toby cause he worked directly for corporate and not for him, so he didn't considered him part of his "family". He was essentially a corporate employee who was stuck at Scranton with the rest of them so he kind of "ruined their vibe". Also, Toby being from HR meant he was there to report any inappropriate behavior or misconduct and could pretty much shut down any weird thing Michael wanted to do (he almost never did, but still he could have lol).

That's an interesting assessment. I had thought that possibly his lack of friends during his childhood and lack of a supportive family system as a child also played a part (dismissive mother, no identified father figure or siblings). When you look to the episode "Take you Daughter to Work Day", the clip of young Micheal is so heartbreaking. He says he wants to grow up to have a wife and lots of kids so he can have friends and no one can refuse to be his friend. I think this moment says a lot about how badly Michael wants to be liked and accepted. Also, he wants to identify with Ryan, the cool and attractive guy in the office, because that was never Michael. He was never the popular kid in school. He acts like a child because he is stuck in this stage in life. Anyways, just another MFT's perspective. Very cool analysis, though! Got me thinking deeper about my favorite TV show. Thanks :)

Well his antics did showed overcompensation to the moments of his unfulfilled childhood. The episode where he shows Ryan a children TV episode he took part in was a glaring example of how restrictive and subjugative his childhood was. Even Phyllis has commented on Michael's eccentricities while he was in college. Well he did was one the saddest personality in the whole show hidden behind narcissism and textbook office blabbers.

People misunderstand narcissism as a personality disorder all too often. Michael is self-centered often, which is a bit narcissistic.. we all have narcissistic tendencies to us. It's not to be confused with Narcissistic personality disorder, which Michael Scott definitely does not have. He has a big heart, he's compassionate and able to empathize for others. He's got a lot of love to give, and genuinely wants people to be happy. Spend intimate time with a true narcissist and you will see the stark difference.

Michael Scott reminds me of someone who was raised off of TV. So many tv references and the attention span of watching tv with commercials on flipping through tv filtering out the "unimportant". Theatrical was mentioned and what more can you learn from actors acting. Always on as if he's always on stage.

Thank for this video, Kati. I am so happy watching a video with you about "The Office". The best part of the series is Michael's non sense.
