actually, it is quite strange, she's been a matriarch for quite some time, and none of the other whales were even alive when she was a calf.. and of course she was a calf, and besides, she's not a calf anymore, she's also been an adult for a while. a matriarch too. Matriarchs are the dominant orca as well, which Katina is the dominant orca. So it is in fact, weird she would have a rake mark as no one really challenges the matriarrch unless it is an attempt to take ovver the dominant role.

Sydney Goetz it isn't strange considering she had a mother who would've raked her. Also, orcas have challenged her in the past but she has always maintained her position, all orcas will have rake marks even matriarchs because they will have been raked by dominant figures before they took control.

first of all, her time being a calf is irrelevant, because as a calf, she was not a matriarch. Secondly, since she is the dominant figure, there is no other dominant figure(s) in the Orlando pod to rake her. Your whole argument is flawed. She has been the matriarch of the Orlando pod for so many years, and will continue to be it until she dies. She was captured from the wild as a young calf, so she barely spent much time in the wild. the only logical time she would and should have been raked, is before she became the matriarch. Which was long before her calf Kalina was born, close to 30 something years ago. So please, continue to tell me this is normal when you and I both know this is not.

Rake marks don't always have to come from displays of dominance. She could have been playing with the other whales and received rake marks, or she was disciplining another whale who decided to take a snap back at her. And I think what the other person is trying to say is she has rake scars from back when she was much younger. Could you share the exact moment in the video you saw rakes, please?
