Love the channel. One of the fellers at the club tuned me into your stuff. I'm hoping you can help me. I'm trying to do my first decoder install with lighting on a Kato SD70ACe with the Loksound 5 5874. Headlight, rearlight, ditch lights, and number boards and maybe a cab light if possible. I have read to understand that resistors are needed for aux 3,4,5 and 6. Is this correct, and what would you (if willing, of course) recommend i use to be succesful. I'm newer to the hobby and just trying to learn what I can to be succesful and confident without wasting money through failure as much as possible. I am planning to use aux1 for F0, aux 2 R0 (led's that come with decoder. The other lighting I'm planning on using 0402 smd led. Any help and infonis greatly appreciated. Hope i was clear enough. Thank you in advance. Take cqre!

for aux3, 4, 5, and 6 use a 4700 ohm (4.7k) surface mount resistor on a scrap of PCB for each 0402 wired SMLED. You can find these on Ebay pretty cheap. I bought a roll of 2000 years ago...I doubt I'll ever run out. It's acutally pretty simple. aux1 and aux2 don't need dropping resistors as they are set up for LED's so you are correct there. Just keep polarity in mind and be mindful of how small the solder pads are.

Looks and sounds great! Do you have any more info on the speaker box you 3d printed? I'd love to print one for mine too.

Can you show up close which tabs to solder the other leds to and what function number is to be programmed? I tried soldering to the 2 open hole tabs in front of the stock LED but there is too much current and they burn out slowly.

there are further pictures on my facebook page listed above. That said, what kind of LED are you trying to solder to those through holes? As for Functions, front through holes are Aux1, rear through holes are Aux2. easy to change the setup with a Lokprogrammer.

@@nightmare0331 I tried using the stock LEDS off a Kato DC board. I have a Lokprogrammer. Is there a current adjustment need to be made for those 2 Aux ports for an LED? I guessing there's a built in resistor for each one. I'll look you up on Facebook. Thanks for the quick reply.

What speaker do you use

i have a question for you do you need resistors for the LED lights or does the board have it built into it.
@nightmare03312 жыл бұрын
for the front and rear 3.5mm led's there are resistors built into the board. if you are using one of the function outputs you will either need to use dropping resistors or tap into the common for the 3.5mm led path

@@nightmare0331 awesome,and by chance what size speaker you are using as well because I just bought a KATO N SCALE EMD SD70ACE rio grande 1989 and trying to see what dcc recorder to use and speaker

@@NICKSSHOP those are 15x8mm speakers with 3d printed housings. I do sell the speaker assemblies if you need them. Email me at kelley@dufordmodelworks.com for pricing
