Having the rug pulled out from under him in that way had to be oddly humbling. It could make a performer keep themselves a bit in check by continuing to grow the fanbase organically, which is the harder road to having success, but better far a career in the long run. Like the theme of this video, we see what’s happening for those who have the quicker rise in popularity, as the over exposure leads to burning out, as the need to keep putting out content at a pace that’s not sustainable messes with the process of developing new ideas & material. He’s very aware of those pitfalls, as they are happening all around him.

It is very strange when a stand-up comedian tells his audience that they don't know what funny is, and in the same breath turn around and start berating their fans! Telling them that their life is going nowhere! Their families will suffer because they're never going to be anybody! Telling these people the reason they're always going to be poor is because they're not smart enough to get a whole bunch of dumb people to send them money! They're always going to look at their audience as a bunch of poor losers! I believe in Tom's eyes, he has zero respect for his audience, and everyday he plots and schemes on a different way to monetize the poor's, trying everything in his power to somehow get another dollar out of them! Because that's all the fans are to him. Someone to take advantage of! When you see these guys and they're selling merch, there's a reason why there's such a vast difference between their cheapest and they're most expensive merch. The price starts at $5 and goes to 1,000. In their mind, buying a ticket for their show, and paying monthly for the membership to the podcast, that's just not enough! If you got $10 in your pocket. Tom is going to try and get you to spend 5 out of your last 10! At the end of the day you're just a bunch of ungrateful losers! You should consider yourself lucky that he's even letting you hear his comedy genius! Now pay up!

Cedric the entertainer not having a netflix special available = lie. 3000 books a year as a kid = lie. Cedric and Kevin Heart never performing at Phat Tuesdays = lie. Kat removing a grape scene from friday = lie. Ricky smiley never thinking he got money mike role = lie. going to state college at 7 years old = lie. 2000 a day selling stolen radios = lie. Him and Ludacris having an illuminati meeting = lie. Kevin being a plant who never paid dues = lie. 95% of what he said in that interview was all cap. This whole thing with raunchy profane standups calling the top hollywood comedians sellouts has always cracked me up. Because any real comedian is going to tell you doing clean standup is alot harder and even that doesn't aways transition into tv skits or series, or especially hollywood movies. Not everyone has that ability range or personality appeal. Thats why Kat will never be the all time greatest comedian, he's not even in my top 10. But off the top of my head Guys like Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Dave Chapelle, Jerry Seinfeld, basically guys who can do it ALL are among the greats imo. The only thing Kat DIDN"T lie about was Steve Harvey stealing jokes and doing people dirty. But you think Kat can do a better job hosting Family Feud? Come on.... Kat will always just be known as a raunchy standup, and he mostly appeals to the black audience and he is bitter about these other comedians being famous around the world, literally. Tifanny Haddish is right, he pulled a Charleston White publicity stunt for his upcoming tour. IMO the troll internet is simply just rooting for the troll again which is how Trump got elected. To suggest joe rogan is the comedy elite or some sort of gatekeeper of comedy is comedy in and of itself the guy has had hundreds of comedians on his podcast, he opened up a comedy store and pays acts way more than any other comedy store in America he’s constantly putting people on and as far as I’m aware never shits on anyone for being unfunny or a bad comic he’s normally just full of encouragement. Whoever made this video just seems to hate joe rogan for some strange reason. Fair enough if he thinks he’s unfunny but the vast majority of the videos on his channel revolve around joe in some way or another. If you really don’t like a comedian just don’t watch him it baffles me how he bigs up people like Shane Gillis who is a friend of joes and clearly benefitting from their relationship but then admonishes others for doing the same. I've been an MSSP Patreon member since before the pandemic (I found him on RAP and loved that he bullied Louis while always being the funniest dude at the table, and I was even on a DAWG rollcall because that's how small the Patreon was back then), and I think you're spot on with Shane being self-aware enough and staying himself despite the bump he got from Rogan (and to a lesser extent, Barstool) not long after he started blowing up from his first few Rogan appearances. Aside from the settings of the stories and anecdotes and how famous the people that he includes in them, he's still the same dude that's still into the same things he was before and he still keeps his Philly guys around pretty much everywhere he goes, and even if he did start to become Bobby Bigshot they're his stopgap to keep him in check and would call him out for it. Unfortunately, because of the influx of Brogan and Barstool fans, the Patreon comment section has become filled with insufferable Reddit tier dorks who think repeating the same handful of jokes over and over equals comedy, but inshallah, once the comedy and massive podcast bubble burst I'm sure the worst of the bandwagoners will drop off. In the meantime, there are still a solid bunch of Philly based podcasts that are comedically right there with MSSP and despite having 2kish or less Patrons (WAR MODE excluded), they're still all 100x funnier than any of the Papa Rogan Dckrider podcasts.

Katt started the new year off with the AK. He threw so many shots that you really have to sit down and go one by one. There were the big shots (Steve Harvey, Cedric, Rickey Smiley) but then the subtle ones like Faizon, Rogan and his crew, Michael Blackson. It was the comedy version of No Vaseline, Ether, Hit Em Up, all in one.

This is absolute BS. Joe Rogan knows he has a large outreach, and is doing each guest a chance to reach more people. Just like Jeff Foxworthy did with his “Blue Collar Comedy” tour, D.L Hughley and “Def Jam Comedy”. It’s people helping their friends and acquaintances. Somebody’s a little hurt they didn’t get a shoutout from anyone.

When they tried to cancel Gillis and it helped him blow up, lesser comedians want to follow that path. The difference is that Shane is actually funny and his comedy stands on its own and his material reflects his actual sense of humor. He's not trying to be edgy for an ulterior motive.

I get what you are saying to a degree but also a lot of these guys are very funny, and they do find their audience. I dont really think its that deep like promoting hack comedians, more just giving his friends a chance to succeed. Having the biggest podcast in the world carries some serious power and I think we are all lucky its owned by a guy who has no sick alterior motives or serious greed. I think he is one of the rarest celebrities to ever exist to be honest

Fame is a helluva drug. When I was a newspaper reporter back in the '90s (pre-Internet), I did a story that, as the kids say, "went viral." I was interviewed for the first time on television. People in the newsroom recognized me. I was called by a movie studio (who was involved in the story) wanting to know how I got the info. All this is incredibly small beans (the television interview was on local cable). Yet for several days afterward, I felt like I was on an ego drug. I felt like Ken in "Barbie" when people in the real world paid attention to him. And I suspect, from that example, that the Mr. Beast Effect had the same result on those small KZbinrs. They suddenly got a massive bump. They suddenly got more eyes on them. If you're a narcissist, you'd probably think that was your due. But it can be frightening. I can be hard to keep doing what you're doing, because you feel like you should be doing more. And when many of those people turn away, you can't help but feel that as a judgment on you. From publishing indie books for more than a decade, I have seen this rise and fall effect in action. You have to realize that a bump will always have a limited effect. Of those people who pick up book A, many won't be around for the next book. Your audience will grow, but a lot less than you'd expect. And you have to appreciate the sudden recognition, but never assume that it'll last forever, or that their passing judgment on you.

This is a very interesting and quasi informative take on the comedy scene. I definitely enjoyed watching and listening to your opinions. But I do think Joe is just doing his thing. I have never thought Joe was doing anything other than being himself. That's why I like Rogan, you aren't getting something written or not legitimate. Joe is real, Joe is honest. And that's what I appreciate.
