"I didn't like the ending" was SO wonderfully meta and self-referential because King is constantly being criticized for his endings.

Yea because king doesn’t think books should have endings. He thinks they should always be open ended. He said the only reason he writes endings in any of his books is because American readers demand it.

I’m a die hard IT novel fan. I thought they did a commendable attempt adapting such complex material. I do wish they did a better job explain what IT is, the ritual of Chud, IT’s dead lights, and that the Losers all have “The Shine”. Which is King’s version of special powers. Like Danny Torrance and Abra Stone. Except the losers all have small amounts of it. Then when they band together they’re extremely powerful. Which is why they’re the only ones able to defeat IT. IT actually fears them. There’s a great inner monologue in the book where he feels fear for the first time in his existence after fighting them on the house on Neibolt St.

"As a parent, if your kid gets up and walks away, aren't you gonna ask where they're going?" Not in Derry. The movies didn't touch on just how much influence Pennywise had on Derry and most of its residents. It's the same reason why the car rolls by Ben getting cut up in the first movie, Pennywise makes them look the other way. Also, Pennywise is and is not an alien. It is one based on the fact that It isn't from earth, but it's not exactly from space either. It comes from outside.

11:42 Yeah, that point you made about the parents not noticing is down to Pennywise's power. It's essentially a scare/manipulation tactic that the entity uses. By making the parents/adults unaware of everything that Pennywise does, by IT using it's psychic ability, it essentially makes the kids feel isolated and alone. Because not even their own parents support them when their kids tell them that they saw something terrifying. This, in turn, makes them an even easier target, as they are more susceptible to being scared and horrified.

6:28 - I liked how they subtly touched on something very... how people often repeat history; for instance how Beverly ended up with an abusive boyfriend, when she grew up with an abusive father, and how Eddie ended up marrying an overbearing, overprotecting wife, just like his mother. And the funniest thing about it is that the got the same actress who played Eddie's mother in the first chapter to play his wife in the second. Too funny.

I love Kat's reactions. She rapidly became one of my favorite reactors and I figured watching this reaction is a good way of seeing this. I never got around to watching It Part 2 because I really did not like the first part. It is one of my most favorite books of all time and the first Stephen King that I read (when I was 12, lol). The time changes didn't bother me, but a lot of other changes did, in particular the SA Beverly doesn't experience from her father in the book that she does in the movie. (Yes, there are hints her father may have gone down that path, but he never did in the novel). A lot has been made of "THAT SCENE" from the book but Beverly in the book has full control over her sexual decisions. Taking that away from her in the movie is way more fucked up than "THAT SCENE" when you really think about it. Beverly goes from full agency to being a SA victim for absolutely no reason. The physical abuse she suffers from her father are horrific enough without adding that kind of trauma to her as well. It feels exploitative and gross in a way that I have a hard time articulating. Sorry, this has seriously bothered me since I watched the first part when it came out. I love your reactions, Kat, and always look forward to the next one!

I always look forward to learning the hidden TRUE horror from Kat's reactions 🤣 As for the distinction between scifi and paranormal.... those kind of blend together into this genre, which is "cosmic horror." True sci fi requires some element of science and tech (fictional or otherwise) so having an extraterrestrial entity alone doesn't qualify a story as part of the sci fi genre. I'm a writer, and trying to figure out what genre your story fits into is way more nuanced than you'd think!

Even the sentence was the same hahaha I only have the courage to watch this a few days ago. I was afraid of having an anxiety attack because of the openning, thank god was just a lot of cry. The movie is softer than the book, some violence was left out, like the guy who beat the child to death than It come and took the other child. Than finally he was arrested. A lot of triggers to me. But I still love the movies, the first more. As other comments mentioned, Derry has a lot of evil and adults are very weird there. Fun fact: the kid in the beginning that was being homophobic and was like “romantic? What’s so fucking romantic”, that kid plays Betty Ripsom in the IT chapter one!! I learned that shortly after IT chapter two came out and I was shook haha

@@skyofthelivingdead well that was obviously intentionally done to show how a momma's boy would marry a woman who is JUST like his mom.

The opening is also based on a real crime. King was so outraged by it that he incorporated it into his book.

I felt the same as you about this one. It definitely was scarier than the 1st. It's probably one of the scariest movies of all time for me. 10/10

“Wow these guys have done well for themselves “ they don’t touch on this part very much in the films, but in the books, it’s implied that Pennywise was partially part of their success to keep them from coming home. That’s also why they have little memory of the town once they’ve left

The fact that a Stephen King (who is notorious for his pathologically unhinged bullies) literally had bullying as the solution just makes so much sense.

The "HiHo, Silver!" thing is because in the original book, they were kids in the 1950s, and adults in the '80s.

The younger cast members were asked who they wanted to be them as an adult in the second half. That's why they were so good as the adults.

In a sense, the remakes do take pieces of the original IT movie from the 90's with Tim Curry as Pennywise the clown. Two different eras of movies, but two really great actors who made Pennywise really scary and terrifying to watch lol.

Part 2 isn't my favorite, so I usually don't watch it often, but I was glad to see you react to it. I also know that *some* people don't like the idea that "bullying was the answer" but I think it's super poetic that a bunch of kids who were bullied and beaten down, something that should have destroyed them, turned the tables and used it as their greatest power.

40:24 there was no depicted reason to mention this in the movie. It was written in the book that Pennywise sometimes took the form of a werewolf, and the addition of this rule made Pennywise vulnerable to silver bullets when it was a werewolf. It was really just something King pulled out of his ass to give the kids a believable way to sometimes fight back against a cosmic level supernatural enemy.
