Perfectionism = Procrastination = Paralysis. "Good enough is perfect" as KC Davis LPC wrote in "How to Keep House While Drowning". I'm a recovering perfectionist as well. For really serious cases of perfectionism, I recommend the book "When Perfect Isn't Good Enough" (Second Edition) by Martin M. Antony PhD and Richard P. Swinson MD. My chief argument against Marie Kondō (whom I adore BTW) is that she gets dangerously close to perfectionism...

this really hits home. i have this problem and so does my husband if we don't get everything we want done that day we think we failed however we still get a lot done but we don't see it. we are working on changing our mind set and that is a huge battle that we are winning. we both need reminders that we got a lot done

It can be really tough to switch out of that mindset!

I hardly finish off watching a full video but wow I was so glued with this one. I could totally relate to everything here. I always struggle with "if I can't do it perfectly then I won't do it at all" Brilliant video!!!!

Well... I just can say thank you from the bottom of my heart... I kinda knew this was me but this video really opened my eyes! Now...how can it be so obvious yet seeming impossible to change?? It's like I'm nodding at every single word you're saying to the point I want to cry yet I don't know how to change my mind, it seems such an impossible task! I've watched all your videos and I'm trying to change but this perfectionism is killing me! I'm a total procrastinator because of it and I hate it, which doesn't help because it makes me "hate" myself even more! I feel I'm totally stuck 😓

Wow, I could relate to 💯 of this! The negative self-talk, the procrastination, the concern about how others will see me…all of it! I also learned some new, helpful things about perfectionism from this video. Thank you!

I’ve found this with dieting also. If I’m not being perfect I feel I’ve failed for that day.

I feel all of this!!! A few years ago I was in this job search group and we were talking about perfectionism and had been talking about all of these key points. The instructor said to get an accountability partner to keep on track. Just curating our lifestyles for us with jobs, what we CAN handle. The paycheck to afford the lifestyle we want; envision for ourselves. Also, in that group we were part of this group study called WOOP my life. W- WISH, identifying a wish that is important for you, that is challenging but feasible. O- OUTCOME , identify the best outcome of fulfilling your wish and imagine the best outcome. O- OBSTACLE, identifying your main inner obstacle that might prevent you from fulfilling this wish and imagine that obstacle P- PLAN, identify an action you can take to overcome your obstacle. Now you make a plan If... (obstacle) then I will... (action to overcome obstacle). This has helped me so much in the past. I gained a lot of benefits from it but I pushed it to the wayside. My instructor told me, Being a perfectionist, I don't get a lot of things done until they're just so. And that it hinders me from living my best life because I do plan but if it seems unattainable, then I don't start until motivation or getting a indepth gameplan and organize what I need to do first. Lol now I am a procrastinator and go with the flow and that's not good either.

I LOVE that! Thank you for sharing 💗 and I had a good laugh at going from perfectionist to procrastinator 🤪

"If you can't do it right, don't do it at all" is something that I do get in my mind from childhood. It is needless and unhelpful.

I agree with you! It can be really tough to get out of that mindset but it's important to make that shift.
