This blessed my heart so much. I struggle with perfectionism and with the your not good enough due to how I was raised. You would think that as a 62 year old I would have gotten past that but as was mentioned those comments made to young people stay with them for a lifetime.

it is SO true!

Yes, perfectionism has always been my companion whether I want her or not. And it has always been a huge obstacle to me actually getting my house decluttered, organized, and even just putting things away. Like, “ I’m not even putting these away until I can do it perfectly, “ but then they stay out for weeks.

So funny how our minds work, hey?

I used to be very hard on myself because I have perfectionist tendencies. I have discovered the way to assure that we will have drop in company is to dive into a project at home that is dirty and messy and leaves us as dirty and messy as our environment. This used to make me so uncomfortable. Now I focus on the people that have dropped in. Relationships are far more important than inconvenient interruptions. I remind myself that if someone drops in, they must feel comfortable with us and they want to spend time with us (a gift). We can visit with folks even if we are messy or in the middle of something. We all need witnesses to our lives.

This is me, a perfectionist. Difficult because if you think you can't ger everything "perfect"you don't start.

I really appreciated the comments about not getting hung up on labels. I want to be considered a minimalist, but then I have more than one of everything so I feel like I can't truly be considered minimal. But we use everything we have ..

I'm almost 66 years old and have been a micro-perfectionist most of my life but got exhausted trying to maintain it. Now, l do cleaning or decluttering or whatever, look around, breathe, and tell myself, "This is OK for now", and give myself permission to stop. If someone doesn't like it. Well, that's their problem.

I realized when I first started decluttering my garage I wasted 3 weeks getting started until I could find the perfect metal shelf to put my stuff on. I wasted another week until I got in the mood to build it.😮

Life is always messy and unpredictable. Turn fear of failure into creating something fun and satisfying. One could draw a basic map of each floor of your house and number each room, then roll the dice and start in the room number that comes up.
