Katz's Deli - a $50 NYC Feast | Pastrami on Rye, Latkes, Matzo Ball Soup, and more...

What trip to New York can be complete without visiting the legendary Katz's Delicatessen. Fully embracing the tourist mindset, I spent a wonderful morning exploring the Manhattan Chinatown and then made my way to Katz's Deli. I've been anticipating trying this iconic landmark in New York City. Would this be a tourist trap? Well, there's one way to find out, and in the process, I can get a nice meal as well.
One thing to note on this visit, was the orders were not cheap, but I was fully aware of the tourist premium one may encounter. Very happy to see that the food was fantastic and the people were even better!

That's the way to do it! The half sandwiches would have been a good choice. I also noticed something called an egg cream that I've always wanted to try.. maybe next time 🙂

This is the very best video of Ashkenazy food ever made for me. I live where a pastrami sandwich is a skinny awful clove reeking version based upon Montreal’s style idea of Pastrami… sigh! The latke looks and sounds awesome and the matzoh ball and soup is perfection. I will never get there again as I live a continent away but it is in my soul and was in my father’s childhood. Tim- I am so glad you went to Katz's Deli. They make really good Jewish comfort food. They also make a good salami. So many good delis in the NYC area have closed in recent years. It's good there are a few left in the City.

They say it’s jewish but i saw their Web site, the meat is not even kosher. So how could it be jewish? So sad for religious people , like christians, jews or muslims, can’t even eat there because of their non kosher meat. It’s not very serious. Hope it changes.

Tim, the fresh pickle you mentioned is called a new dill or half sour pickle. Also next time you go to a deli like this again, recommending kreplach in chicken soup. It's a dumpling stuffed with meat.

I lived in NYC for 7 years and Katz's is as popular with New Yorkers as it is with tourists. Even if they like to complain about it being a "tourist trap" they still go because the food is good!

go there every time I am in NYC.....absoulutely the best! I usually go early evening and there was rarely a line at the cutters, never a line outside. I used to line up with Benny (since retired) super nice older guy and always took care of me/us. He remember me because I was from Maui, Hawaii. great place don't EVER change it

We have a Katz's here in Houston and I ordered the same items the first time I went. There was so much meat I had to take some out to even be able to take a bite of the sandwich. The soup was amazing and the pickles are a great to cut through all that meat.

Have to get a chocolate phosphate to top off the meal! Excellent drink! Here in Chicago we get our corned beef and pastrami sandwiches sliced paper thin and extra lean. The meat is served nice and warm and super juicy. Those pickles are the bomb!! Yummmmmmolicious!!
