We already visited the "Little Italy", NYC you're probably most familiar with, but have you heard of Arthur Ave? This neighborhood in the Bronx claims to be the "REAL" Little Italy in NYC, so of course, we had to check it out for ourselves. Mozzarella shops, cannoli, Italian grocery shopping, coffee, bakeries, salami tasting and eating at Enzo's- what do you think? Is this an authentic Italian experience in the USA?
Thank you for all of your love and support! Don't forget to subscribe and turn on the bell so you never miss a new video! You can also follow us on our other socials below! Ciao for now! -Jessi and Alessio

@@ThePasinishave you found anything authentic in Nashville? I’ve been so disappointed with the lack of good Italian in Nashville. Maggiano’s and Coco’s just aren’t cutting it 😂. If you have any recommendations help a girl out please! I have been all over middle TN looking for authentic Italian and have been severely disappointed. My great grandmother immigrated from Campania and I can’t find anything close to what I get from my family.

@@gkennedy2998 Close. Maybe 5-10 blocks away. I believe that the neighborhood is called Dyker Heights. 14th Ave & 75th St. Pretty much that whole section of Brooklyn, from Bay Ridge, to beyond where my grandparents lived on 63rd St. was Italian in the 60s & 70s, with fantastic restaurants, bakeries and salumerias. I imagine that it was like a giant Arthur Ave. A few of my relatives still live there, and in Bensonhurst, but the ethnic composition of the neighborhoods have changed, but not for the worse, as the crime is still low. We moved out to New Jersey in the mid 60s, so I really didn't grow up in Brooklyn.

Yup, Brazil has Italians too! An estimated 32 million descendants in Brazil, making them the largest number of people with Italian ancestry outside Italy (they also have the most people with Japanese ancestry outside Japan)! With the most populous city with Italian ancestry being São Paulo. Arthur Ave in The Bronx really is a wholesome area with its charm, though I don't take an Uber there but rather the Metro-North Railroad to Fordham and then walk. Trains are the preferred mode of transport in the NY metro, and taking Metro-North gives me an excuse to take in the beauty of Grand Central Terminal (and soon, the Long Island Railroad will open in Grand Central too). That "IIIIT'S JOHNNY!" picture on the door at 3:15 is the chef's kiss.

Take the train if you're in Manhattan, definitely. I live in the Bronx not too far from Arthur Avenue (I'm near University Ave & Burnside Ave) so the bus is much more convenient for me. 😁👍 Only I'm of Puerto Rican desent so I tend to stick to the more Latin American/Hispanic areas of the Bronx when I do go anywhere (which isn't often admittedly). I'm going to have to swing by Arthur Avenue sometime soon though (when I'm not broke) at least to get some bread and possibly some cheese, lol. I'm suddenly craving good pasta too. 😅 Maybe swing I'll by China Town too one day. It's amazing how you tend to forget about other countries foods when you get too immersed in your own, or too lazy to care what you eat. 😉

@@ThePasinis The "D" train goes there, too. You can get there by subway (D to Fordham Road), commuter rail (Metro North to Fordham station), express bus or city bus. Probably the D would have been faster than driving in an Uber. Next time!

I am Welsh and live in Slovakia and we have great coffee here and always have espresso cups which are not so popular in the UK (although they have become more so in recent years I think). I just love buying cute little presso cups and I always feel so sophisticated using them. On my first trip to the Czech Republic when I fell in love with Central Europe grappa was the first drink I had and I learnt about great coffee here and he is so right about grinding the beans - once you start it is life changing. I think by far this was one of your best videos to date! Well done! What a fantastic, authentic, informative and simply lovable video. Please make more vids like this. I’m sure there are more incredible Italian areas that no one has heard of that you would never expect authentic Italian cuisine that you could investigate? maybe some different areas that we wouldn’t expect like somewhere in SE Asia like, Seoul, Japan, the Philippines & Hong Kong, strange places to have Italian I know but believe me they’re there you just have to search. I live in Dubai, UAE and we have a lot of great Italian restaurants here (according to me 😂) so why not come and try. Definitely next time I’m in NY I’m going to The Bronx to Arthur Ave to try try out some of your suggestions. Keep up the great work guys. Love from UAE xx

Thank you so much for this video and your channel over all! You are both helping me learn my most loved language - Italiano! I find that I pick up words and phrases faster by listening and reading subtitles than I do with any language app. ❤❤❤ beautiful culture, beautiful food! Sending love from upstate NY! 😚😚

What a great vlog! Makes me want to book a flight now and stay around Arthur Ave in the Bronx. I always look for the cremosa in my caffe here in Florida, no luck. I have to go to Italy to get good espresso! Alessio was so joyful and you too Jessi. Omg Enzo I have to go! Andiamo ragazzi!

First, I want to let you know that I absolutely adore you both!!! This video transported me back in time to my Italian heritage rooted in NYC, specifically Brooklyn. I moved to Colorado when I was 19 and each time I visited NY, there were fewer and fewer authentic Italian markets and restaurants. Now I know where to go next time I make a trip back. Grazie mille!!!

First off, I LOVE all of your videos! You guys are so charming and so endearing and I always learn a few things! Today, you have made me yearn to visit NY again. I'm from Georgia (your video from Nashville with the biscuits made this Southern heart sing) and I consider Arthur Ave one of the great wonders of the world. I've had the pleasure of dining at Enzo's and it was DIVINE. I first learned of it through a show called Extra Virgin with Gabriele Corcos and Debi Mazar and now, here is another favorite couple I love to follow, strolling down Arthur Ave and taking me to some wonderful memories of time I spent there. Thanks so much for the joy you spread.

4:57 those are leeks, you can find them in Asian supermarkets too (if you have them in the South lol), the smaller ones you're used to seeing are green/spring onions, they might look similar but have slightly different tastes.

I worked with man named Carmine who grew up on Arthur Ave. The stories he told of the old neighborhood. He even taught us how to make fresh mozzarella!! Thank you for doing this. I go to NYC every couple years. Next time I'm headed to the Bronx.

I am an Italian-American and LOVED this video. It was all about the love of life and genuine kindness Italians have for their fellow man. We're "people persons," if that makes sense. We live life robustly which involves food, family, friends, our church, neighborhood - and extending ourselves and energies into making sure the people in our world are eating well, happy, and know we care.

Amazing and so informative! I’ve been to New York so many times and never been really in the Bronx. I am a true foodie and my mother created great dishes authentic and I’m never satisfied when I go out to eat. This video makes me wanna go to the Bronx Arthur Avenue and check out Enzos and this fantastic café. Thank you so much for sharing this experience.

Thank you for this video. I have lived in NYC for eight years and have looked for descent Italian food. I have been to Arther Ave already but I did not know of Enzo’s (I ate at another place and had a disappointing, Italian American experience.). But, I know the markets there are like what you see in Italy (I am not Italian nor Italian American-I am French, Polish, PR, Swiss German American third generation from FL but visited Italy for ten days in 2007 and loved the food and markets there). Little Italy sadly has changed because of inflation and gentrification and COVID hurt that part of town because of Chinatown having Chinese immigrants so that explains why. However, the West Village and Nolita had Italian immigrants so there are traditional Italian places spotted here and there. Little Italy still has good shops but the food is more Italian American which is ok but at the same time I crave real deal Italian food too. Once again, thanks and I hope you enjoyed your trip to NYC. I love it in NYC-great place.

I just discovered you with the Eataly video, which I enjoyed. So I went to check out other videos and immediately wanted to watch this one, hoping it would be what it is! Such a study in contrast. This has such soul. Beautiful video and I so enjoyed watching it. Definitely going to subscribe. Just have to exercise self-control and not binge watch as I have work to do! Love you guys and your style of video. Maybe because I’m French Canadian, from a small town in the far north of Canada originally, and I miss the sense of community living in a largely soulless suburb of Toronto. Merci!

This was great. I can think of several famous ethnic neighborhoods where the original one turns into a tourist attraction while the people in question actually have another more real, down-to-earth neighborhood that’s not so tourist famous. San Francisco’s Chinatown and Chicago’s first Greektown immediately come to mind, where normal folks live and interact. And how satisfying to find the flavors that match your memories from home, instead of Americanized versions. That grocery story reminded me of going into a normal Greek or Turkish grocery with none of the kitsch. It’s something I didn’t expect with a population that is so long-established in the US. But NY is always a gateway city, that’s what makes it so special. Next time I’m in NY I’ll definitely check out Arthur Ave.!

@@ThePasinis the pleasure is all mine! The only thing that would be even better if Alessio would speak in Furlan 💕👍 my relatives still speak it here in Canada but I hear that the dialect is disappearing in Italy! We have a place by my house called Famee Furlane and we used to go all the time for events :) I love the language! I took Italian class in school but I got all the answers wrong because I answered in Furlan 😆 “no signorina, it’s gatto not gjat” 😆 Ps. My daughter’s middle name is Alessia 😎

Your video made me smile 😁 because when you started to talking the local people in Italian and interacting with them, it reminded me of my Grandmother Rose, my father, my aunties and my cousins. I am not fluent in Italian, I deeply appreciate the hard work you put in to have subtitles so that those of us who do not speak the language can understand what the conversation is about. Have you seen Pasta Grammar's Channel? Maybe you guys can do a collaborative video. Wishing all of the best in life. La vita bella! Ciao!

Thank you for this video it brought great memories and tears too my eyes. I grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Mt. Vernon N.Y. There were some incredible little Italian restaurants in town but our go to spot for holiday provisions and great food was Arthur Ave. At the time "Dominics" was our favorite restaurant there. Family style seating which meant you sat at long tables with strangers. No menu, waiter would come and ask what you want and as long as they had fresh ingredients for that dish then the chef made it. I now am retired and live in Puerto Rico, got here after living in Mexico, Hawaii, and Virgin Islands. And never in all the places I've lived have I ate as good Italian food as Arthur Ave.

As a Fordham University graduate, I can say that I expected that all Italian restaurants would be as good as the homestyle eateries in Belmont. Was I ever wrong! Outside of Italy, you can't find better food than Arthur Avenue in the Belmont neighborhood of The Bronx.

I grew upon the Bronx. My grandparents were born in Italy and Sicily. My dad’s family shopped on Arthur Ave. Terranova breads, Madonnia’s etc. We ate in restaurants there. We had a favorite which closed . That is a wonderful Place to shop. I went to the Market years ago with my grandmother who lived on Crotona Ave which is a few blocks from Arthur Ave.
