Kauai: Hanakapiai Falls Hike

The Hanakapiai Falls Hike is 8 miles round trip and can be a muddy mess after heavy rains. We were lucky today and had perfect weather and an amazing hike. Have questions about the hike? Ask away below. I live on Kauai and have done this hike many times.

Thanks! I have to come back to Canada to explore more! I've only really seen Vancouver Island but it was gorgeous. For now, I'll have to settle for Hawaii.

Would you know the height of this waterfall ? Google says 300ft but it looks like it could be more... Great video by the way 🍾

That's about right. It's right around 300-ft.

How did you get there? Did you make reservations?

I have a Hawaii ID so reservations arent needed. Just flash ID, drive through, and park and go hike. You only need a permit if hiking Kalalau past Hanakapiai beach. Not if you head inland on the Hanakapiai falls trail.

Odd seeing you drink that water - hope you filtered and treated it. All those people swimming and pissing in it at the falls. Looks like they've done a bit of trail maintenance - pity there's still so many people on the trail. How did you get parking? Do residents need permits too?

Filtered with a Sawyer Squeeze. Been using those filters for over 5000 miles now and never gotten sick. Also, the beach is 2 miles downstream from the falls. 😁

Residents just need to flash their Hawaii ID. No parking permits needed. The first 2 miles of that trail is always slammed with people.:)
