I mostly agree as I deeply miss bordeux's, However, some of the rarer varietals are actually pleasant to drink and remind me of celery juice or roasted peanuts. Also the effects from varietal to varietal can be vastly different so it's a whole world to explore there. For instance, one of our Kelai batches we just finished is almost absent of body heft and is SUPER heady. I can't think of a better way to explain it than it's like putting on a fish eye lens.

Awesome to see some heavy weights talk about kava! Been in the kava industry for about 15 years and my personal issue when I first tried it was the taste. Being in Hawaii, I had tried kava before (as a novelty at a party or something) but not for a lengthly time where I would drink it every day or night for stress or anxiety. Fast forward, I created a Kava Kava Candy which turned out to be a good gateway into the kava world and particularly for a daytime use or to help kick in those kavalactones. There is some "reverse tolerance" to the process as kava is truly a different feeling than anything else you might be use to trying. Cheers kava people!

I'm all for kava and love it, but I wish people weren't so ignorant about kratom too. I'm not trying to be rude, but it just isn't the harmful "drug" people make it out to be, if used responsibly and in moderation (you know, like anything else we do with self-control) it's really lovely. I've used it intermittently (not every day) for 8 years and my dose is the same, and I'm not addicted to it. Additionally, I was never on opiates either, I take kratom purely for its anti-inflammatory effects (great for autoimmune issues) and for my mental health. The amount of criticism and scorn I get about it though is unreal.

its great if you can take it sparingly but it is hard to do so. once every few days, but if you take it daily you will suffer withdrawals . It helped me get off alcohol but every few weeks i buy a bottle and after a three or four day binge have to deal with awful withdrawals, its like a mild flu for a day. a few years back i took it for a year daily and when i stopped i thought i was going to lose it and end up in a ward, a week of no sleep and sweats, i would imagine its a quarter of what a heroin withdrawal feels like. and it also gets rid of grey matter in the brain permanently . be wary

I’ve talked to thousands of people that take it for many different reasons, I run a kratom Reddit page with 7 thousand members, I’ve seen people from all walks of life get help from it. There is a ton of bad kava out there. I would say make sure to buy it online and spend a lot of time researching the sources with the best quality. Other than that, things don't work for everybody. Everybody has a very different complex biochemistry that is unique to them. The best for pain relief is red vein Bali it is not motivating, but most of Kratom is motivating or stimulating depending on the person I take White vein maeng da, yellow vein maeng da and green vein maeng da. Highly motivating and provide focus, they don't interfere with my sleep but I would not be taking it for sleep. If you take a large dose overdose it is sedating. A normal dose is 3-5 g. I also monitor my blood pressure per a doctors recommendation. I was put on losartin and that lowered it but not quite enough. So they put me on amlodipine also. My pressure got better but was still a little on the high side. The past 2 weeks I have been using kava and my blood pressure last night was 118/77 and has been in that range every day for a week. I’ve been taking Kratom for years and have never had any issues ever. But I also take a super small amount that’s less than 1/4 teaspoon spread throughout the day. I wouldn’t take it past 4 or 5 pm though as I find it motivating rather than sedating. The red strain is more for nighttime but I’ve never taken that at night either. Kava I’ve taken as well and that’s more calming. Lavender is excellent for sleep too.

Melatonin isn't a drug. It's something your body naturally produces. So it's not like taking melatonin every day is a magic fix. Melatonin is best used when: 1. You don't produce enough melatonin naturally (uncommon for most people, more common as you age I believe) 2. You have an inconsistent sleep schedule, in which case using melatonin at the same time every night and then actually going to bed at that time can help train your body more and make it easier to sleep. It's also useful for handling jet lag. Melatonin just tells your body it's time to sleep. Its not magic, but it helps. That's about it. Edit: in my subjective experience I get more tired in about 30 minutes

Benefits of melatonin: • It’s a powerful antioxidant • It’s 2x more powerful than vitamin E • It triggers antioxidants like glutathione • It promotes sleep • It supports the immune system • It has anticancer benefits Sub-cellular melatonin is produced from NIR (near infrared). If you don't get enough NIR light, your pituitary does not produce enough for your needs. You need daylight even if cloudy. If you work indoors you can buy a therapeutic lamp to use at night before bed. I would do this, rather than supplements.

The doctor say kava doesn’t negatively interact with alcohol but everything else I have read states you should never drink alcohol at least 12 hours before or after taking Kava. I understand that medical websites are going to lean way farther on the “ to be safe” side but for those who are comfortable taking kava daily, is there a major concern if I wanted to have a couple of beers the same night I’ve had two drops per the serving size (1.8 ml) of Kava kava extract?

I would really love to know this damn answer lol because same experience! Once in a while someone will be like they're fine together which is awesome while 95% of people say not to including kava experts. I don't know if there's been enough research to know for sure. Unless you have liver problems I'd guess it's fine here and there.

The thing with medical reports is there could’ve been one case where kava and alcohol didn’t go well for the person. It had detrimental effects. So the medical people have to list that as a warning. Even if there have never been any other cases since. I think it may just be that alcohol is broken down in the liver. And so is Kava. So they’re likely insinuating that the liver is having to work hard to metabolize both. Yet most things are broken down by the liver in general. I have had alcohol while on Kava and not had any issues. I’ve done that more than once and never had an issue. But I also don’t really drink that much to begin with and it’s just once in awhile rather than all the time.

If you develop a dependency on Kratom that requires rehab, the withdrawal pain (mild discomfort at worst) then your problem isn't pain or physical withdrawal, your problem is purely psychological. Kratom is easy to withdrawal from (if you even get to that point). If you are physically active, you won't really notice. If you are not, its like having a mild flu for a couple days (4 days at most). Hate it when people try and spook others away from Kratom because it is B.S. and it has help thousands of people come off of actual heavy narcotic dependency. This nonsense is just like the did with Cannabis in the 50's - 00's and mushrooms and LSD. All kinds of horrors stories and urban legends that never happened or happen to anybody.

I started taking Kava when I transferred colleges and no longer had consistent access to alcohol (allegedly). So no therapeutic opinion here. My experience was that (powdered) Kava was the most disgusting thing I've ever put in my mouth. Absolutely foul. Probably gelcaps would've helped. Aside from that, it was basically the same as alcohol for me. The good parts and the bad. When I turned 21 I decided that rum was way more convenient and palatable. Now in my old age I'm of the opinion that alcohol is for getting drunk, kava is for getting drunk on a diet, and kratom is for all the things people say kava is for except getting drunk.

The WHO reviewed Kava again in 2016 and essentially dismissed the hepatoxicity concerns due to a number of factors (e.g. the likely cause of the hepatoxicity in studies in the late 90’s and early 2000’s was due to other medications or alcohol especially with kava that triggered it). Or put differently, and in the WHO’s words, considering Kava has been used for over 2000 years, if there are any significant issues the occurrence of such is low. And they largely found as such in their meta analysis of studies up to 2016.
