I am really going crazy , I have had my babies for almost 5 years and al of a sudden I started seeing the gold color fading and scales falling off sunken in behind the head and a sunken belly stringy white poo. I had treated with salt and bacteria and fungi and still I have lost 3 fish in the past 2 months. I'm going to have to treat my whole tank. My 2 koi and 2 African featherfins seem fine but my sarrasas are dieing. Thank you for your videos I was so lost and you again saved the swimming Angels. These fish are the best for mental health and I bring people that I know need help and have them just sit in front of my tank and watch the fish . My fish LOVE attention and love when people are watching them. Its like they put on a show for whoever is in front of the tank. I have sat in a chair everyday and hand fed them for over 4 years and they are truly part of the family and in our dining room when we eat they eat at the same time .

@@KaveManAquaticsHello kev 4 of my discus havnt been eatin for about a month iv tried so many treatments for white stringy poop and nothink has worked,,,so iv bit the bullet and bought metroplex now the problem is the fish will not eat at all,iv even used garlic gaurd and that didn't work,,,,so when my metroplex comes the only way to treat them is in the water,,,is that the only way?????over the full course over the 3 weeks it's gonna take 66g of metroplex for the size of my tank as I'm treating all fish.

Just want to say how much I value what you said about we already know where we are, now let's figure out how to fix it. I have spent countless hours watching videos that end up being full of just fluff, and often it ends up being not related to the topic I'm intending to watch, so it's extra wasted time. Most of the big KZbinrs I watch are pretty good for it, but thanks for just spitting out the facts here

I agree. I’ve been wasting money on metroplex and what I mean by that is I’m apparently dosing the wrong way. I thought you put the number scoops of medicine per gallons of the tank. And I guess that’s if you are dosing the WATER! 🤦🏽‍♀️ I was wasting my focus and garlic guard as well. Damn damn damn! No wonder my fish wouldn’t eat that bitter crap! As many scoops of medicine I put they probably can still taste it. Got a few that won’t eat but maybe if I mix it right I can still save them. Glad I came across your video! Thanks for the post!

Right now the only sign i see of internal parasites is stringy poop and i’ve seen Molly, Paullie and Mr. Pac-Man poop like that. They all still have a very good appetite thankfully. I’m going to take this as an indicator to treat all my fishies and i’m so thankful for your informative video that shows where to begin 😭 i’d be very clueless otherwise.

My pleasure! If they only have the stringy poop but are still eating good, and no sunken belly, I wouldnt medicate. They could just be adjusting to the food you're feeding. Remember the white stringy poop is just 1 of a few signs....Hold of on the meds for now as long as they're still eating well.

Kev, Thank you for having the best “how to” videos on aquarium and fish keeping. You are my go to guy for all fish and aquarium tips, tricks and treatments. I haven’t owned fish in 30 plus years or so but now my 5 year old daughter Ava had a fascination with them and so doing things like I do, we went from a single goldfish she won at the fair to a 5 gallon, then 10 gallon and now a 75 gallon fresh water tank. 🤦! Anyways, Dude, you are down to earth, easy to follow and direct and to the point which I appreciate! Our Cichlids are 2- blood parrots and named ( Mustard and Mayonnaise). and 2- Tiger Oscars are (Jelly and Peanut Butter). 😎 Too cute coming from a 5 year old man! Thank you Kev and keep these videos coming! Now I get to treat internal parasites in one of our Oscars (Jelly). He has the long white dangling poop and is now staying at the bottom of the tank and almost laying sideways at times. Wish us luck!

Hi Kev, "Lets Go". 😄😄. I'm a subscriber. I love your videos because they are easy to follow and understand. They are very informative as well. I have 2 Tetra fish that are not eating and I don't see any long white stringy poop coming from them. There are no signs of Ick either. The pink one is very active but the blue one spends a lot of time at the bottom of the tank hiding. The blue one has also become very pale in color with sunken belly. He will swim around at times. So I saw one of your videos on why your fish have stopped eating. You said to change the brand of food, I did to a more vitamin riched food with smaller pellets. I also ordered Seachem Metroplex and Seachem Focus. As for the Seachem Garlic Guard do you recommend using fresh garlic juice?? Also saw another of your videos saying that I can treat the whole tank, I only have those 2 fish anyway for now. You also mentioned Epsom Salt mixture can be added to tank as well with these above named products. How often do I do water changes if any and for how many days do I treat???

hey, Kev gotta love the colors of the African cichlids. I love them to death. I graduated from Central American Jack Dempsey's in Oscars. I love the African sickness better because it keeps me on my toes it's like a real hobby you know what I'm saying anyway I was wondering everything I read it says to take the fish that is bullying out of the tank. What about the fish that's being bullied should I put him in my hospital tank so he can get his health and anxiety back??

I have been using the 1:5 ratio still even after the update. Fully just went by the video which was great! Ive been using this for 4 days and my question is. Do you think that will harm the fish?

Yea, when they changed the ratios the packaging may not have been in sync. But its now currently a 1:1 ratio for sure.

Lol, that’s ok, Being a nurse will be beneficial to your fish one way or another, even if it’s just caring for them! This method should help them ingest the meds. If you have a guy that just won’t eat at all anymore he may be too far gone. At that point remove him into a hospital tank and treat the water in that whole tank....and cross your fingers 🤞

I do name my fish to bro! I have 5 cichlids at the moment. 1. Is "Tank Boss" hes a blue and black stripped Mbuna. Runs the tank and chases away any fish that come near his hideout. 2. Peach. Hes an albino peacock and has a red eye and very pale pinkish/orangish hue to him. Looks just like a peach 🍑 3. Yellow Submarine. Hes an electric yellow cichlid who loves to swim up and down the tank rising and lowering in the water just like a submarine. Hes one of the most active fish in the tank. 4. Coral. Hes also an electric yellow with grey spots all over him. The contrast looks like a coral reef 5. "Chill". Hes a johanni with bright neon blue streaks with blacks and greens. I call him chill for the ice blue steaks and also his temperament is pretty chill.

Hi Kevin, good video, I have a fish straight from the store with a sunken belly, I took him out to feed him alone as my others devour it too quick and he spat it back out, not sure if that’s from the stress of me removing him however. How likely is it he has parasites over just being underfed? The manager was on holiday that week who usually looks after the Africans and there were a few badly beat up fish in that I questioned while I was there…really feel like I shouldn’t have gotten any fish that day now as I’m scared I have introduced issues to my tank!

I use this same mix except I use pure Metronidazole instead of Metroplex. Metroplex takes way too long. Also I talked to Seachem and they said that new test have shown that a 1:1 ratio of Metroplex and Focus is sufficient. They are starting to put this mixture ratio on the newer bottles. The pure Metronidazole takes only about 3 to 5 days depending on the severity of the parasites. Metroplex can take up to 3 weeks. So to everyone I would suggest pure Metronidazole as it is way more effective and is cheaper than the Metroplex.
@KaveManAquatics
@KaveManAquatics 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that info. The focus does tend to disappear quickly with the 5-1 ratio. I will be calling Seachem as well to confirm. Straight metronidazole can be hard to get for some viewers while metroplex is easily accessible.

Kev I’ve been dealing with an issue for about a month now or a little longer. It’s my fault cause I didn’t quarantine a fish I brought home cause I’m like this one looks super healthy, I’m good. Stupid rookie move. Long story short, one of the first fish I had gotten started flashing on objects in the tank. She would go sideways and like yeet herself. By the end of the night, I seen like 2 more doing it. I started to look it up and it was saying either ick or flukes. I tried the saltwater thing for like two days and noticed more were doing it. I decided to just treat the entire tank (10 gallon tropical freshwater fish about 10 of them at the time). I tried API gen cure as directed, nothing happened. Tried again, nothing. Got prazipro and my corys I thought were freaking out so I panicked and did a water change about two hours later. I said I needed a bigger tank. Got a bigger one watched more of your videos got some seachem prime and stress got the tank started beneficial bacteria and put the fish that looked better into the tank and kept the 4 that looked worse in the old one to keep and medicate. The others looked better and I continued to medicate the last group. Appetites have always been good. I removed decode that they could flash and hurt themselves on. After a week they seemed to be doing ok. I moved them to the new big tank and they seemed happier but still keep flashing along with a few of the others occasionally. I’ve even tried coppersafe and have it in now hoping it might help. The one that started it has some lesions near her gills from her flashing. I put some api bacterial stuff in to help I think it’s natural cause it smells like tea tree oil. I seen like two others that have some lesions like that too by their gills but not as bad as hers. I’m out of ideas and I don’t have a vet near me that specializes in fish. I don’t want to lose them either and am really worried. Any advice? 🙏 thanks!

@@brittniebeeman2833 thanks for replying. Sadly I’ve lost 4 last week after I wrote this and I’ve got one trying hard to hang in for the last three days. I’m starting to wonder if this is a different type of gill fluke that’s needs a different. Edification or if it is resistant to. Most kinds. I e tried adding gen cure to the food to get it in their system as well. Worked for the first two feedings then they caught on….even did the garlic powder trick 🤦‍♀️

My Bella the Betta has an internal parasite. She has long white stringy poop and is bloated. I am treating her 3 gallon tank with API General Cure. How do I know if/when to give her a epsom salt bath?! How do I know if the parasites are gone? Is there a way to test for them in the tank? Thank you for all of your help. I just bought Bella 3 and a half weeks ago and your videos have helped me so much. I’m pretty sure she has had the parasites since I bought her but I am just now understanding the problem which makes me worry that maybe I should be resorting to emergency measures. Your advice would be appreciated. Thank you so much!!!

thank you for the informative video and walkthrough of symptoms! In your experience, is it common to have worm-type parasites especially in bottom feeders, where you need Levamisole and not Metronidazole? I had some clown loaches with chronic wasting and I'm really worried which approach to take as I read it could be either worms or amoeba/bacteria

Good advice except for the hospital tank in my opinion only. The only reason I say that is by the time 1 fish shows symptoms is safe to assume multiple fish in the tank may have it so I just treat the whole tank. Metroplex isn’t too harsh and even Scaleless fish can handle it with no problem. Normally it’s not good to dose what’s not there but in this case with metroplex and focus as well as api general cure is pretty safe to dose the community. Also after doing this for the 5 day period look for any food with probiotics in the food itself and finish up with that. In my mind this replenishes the bacteria they have growing naturally in there digestive tract to help digestion as I feel the metroplex does eliminate this from there system, not in its entirety but to some degree.

Ive been using blue planet fluke and tapeworm tablets that i crush into a powder and use it to the amount of water in my tank. I dissolve the powder in a cup of aquarium water and then add my pellet food to it to soak some of it up and then feed it, so basically the same thing. Have you used or heard of blue planet meds?
