I bought one of these (not from this dealer, I live on the other side of the country) and I have not regretted it for a second. I tried a few digital pianos before buying, and for the price (at the time at least, about a year ago) nothing else quite compared as a sub for an acoustic piano, both in key feel and definitely in the realism of the sound (may be personal preference). Kawai did an amazing job on this one. I plan on holding onto my CA79 for years to come. I was nervous about the UI, but after owning it, it has never bothered me at all.

Great piano the CA79, if Kawai releases a new sample down the track (Yamaha do Bosendorfer) can it be downloaded from a library and loaded into the piano or would you have to buy the newer piano. Also if I like a sound in the Kawai sound libraries can I download it and put it into the CA79 ? I CAN ALSO USE A MEMORY STICK TO RECORD FROM MY PIANO TO THE MEMORY STICK IF I WANT SO THATS OK. BUT IM AN OLD PERSON AND YOU MIGHT THINK A BIT SILLY WHEN I TELL YOU WHAT THE PING SOUND WAS. I tend to prefer a sound which is good straight out of the box. Few of us are such clever technicians that we really know how to make the sound closer to that of an acoustic piano, if that's even the objective. I know I don't want to spend half my practice time tweaking controls (it's bad enough on my gigs) so I judge a digital or digital hybrid piano on the first two or three patches I find. The unrendered piano patch suddenly sprang to life after hearing the boxed-in rendered one. I find it hard to imagine ever wanting the rendered sound. But I still respect this piano. It's priced a bit higher than what I call the home piano (with cabinet) sweet spot (up to €3K) but is much closer than the CA-99, which is very costly and has little more to offer IMO. Having tried the same action on the CA-99 I felt it doesn't deserve the red carpet (spend all your money by adding a soundboard) treatment, but it's a decent action, so maybe here (in the CA-79) we have a well balanced instrument. I would include this on my list of home pianos to recommend, but so far (just going by reviews) I'm more impressed by the Casio GP-310 with its German patches, and which fits snugly into the sweet spot under €3K.

@@pablo-zn1mg The Kawai apparently has such an app. I don't know if it works well or if it has the same problems. However, I really don't like the idea of using an app for the piano. So in 20 years you'll probably be screwed if you rely on the app. It's such a shame because the piano seems really amazing and I'd like to have the GF3 action but the user experience makes me hesitate to buy it :(

Love your videos and playing Stu, but have to disagree with the user interface. It's a buggy laggy UX mess, with multiple issues that are unlikely to be fixed, given they been in this state for two years. For instance, if you store a sound setting, or recording, you can't delete or modify it without deleting EVERYTHING (don't let your kids at this folks!). Never mind that you can't name using capitals or spaces. As seen in the video when you scroll, you are highly likely to inadvertently change settings. Screen off leaves the backlight on, and when you touch it, it activates whatever setting was hidden (very hesitantly touch the edge to try to avoid this) This is just the start, look at the forums for a full run down. I certainly wouldn't describe the UX as fun, but an exercise in frustration! I have the piano and do like it, but please, buyers be aware how bad that touchscreen is!

But do have the CA 79 99 a too light touch when performing on grand pianos for advanced classical music levels Diplomas as the trinity college ATCL, LTCL exams, and the light touch can make you fail those exams???
@MerriamPianos Жыл бұрын
That is up to the specific player to determine. We have many high-level players completing degrees and diplomas while practicing with a CA79 or CA99 and then taking the examinations on an acoustic grand. Many players that live in apartments, condos, or dorms have to use a digital piano due to space and noise restrictions. I personally don't foresee practicing on one of these instruments being responsible for someone failing an exam. Of course, it is not an exact simulation of playing on the "real thing", but it does offer a great digital alternative for those in specific situations.
@verymozart Жыл бұрын
@@MerriamPianosthanks for replying. I have the same issue, for space, neighbours and budget I can't neither get an acoustic, but I suppose there are digital pianos with a heavier touch than the CA 79 99. It's about how much are lighter than the grand pianos at the exams I mentioned. The only people I know who passed the exams have studied on the acoustic pianos. I don't know anyone passing the trinity college ATCL and LTCL who studied on the CA 79 99. I can't buy more expensive than these two. And the Yamaha digital piano with my budget, I can't help, I don't like the sound, colder metallic, fake. But I would need to know if another digital piano with a heavier sound would be the best choice in order not to fail when playing on the acoustic ones. That's why I'm so desperate to find out if the light touch of these can be a problem to pass the exams or not.

The main difference is the key weightings - as Stu mentioned in the video: the CA79 keys feel lighter and also has better weight grading across the 88 keys (5 gram difference between A0 and C8) - basically the CA79 now feels even more like a grand piano than the CA78 does (the only thing left is to remove the fake/failed attempt at let-off/escapement simulation - which can be done with deft use of a screw driver!). Another major difference is the sponginess of the key-bed has been reduced (improved) in the CA79. Thirdly the CA78 had a problem with the slip tape (Stu also mentioned this in the video) that had a tendency to come loose after a few years - these have been completely redesigned in the CA79 (so hopefully that has solved the problem).

Once you play however, all that really does not matter. Depends what you are going to use it for and which feature is important to you. It plays great. The touch is amazing. It sounds really nice and it looks really good. Really depends on what you plan on using the piano for. That would help answer you queries.

@@MontSutton01 I updated the UI to 1.06 and system to 1.08. The touch screen is more responsive and faster.

Is it worth the extra EUR 1000 for the CA99 model?

Review the Casio px 870

Stu’s reviews are great. But that’s also exactly where the problem lies. He’s a great salesman. He’s too smooth. Stu’s reviews are never very balanced. It’s always too positive imo. He just want to sell his pianos which is understandable. But where are the “real” critical notes?

Hi! Thank you for checking out the video and for taking the time to write in! As a large piano retailer, we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to have a lot of control over the lines and models of pianos that we sell. We're quite picky about which models we carry in fact. From that perspective, when we do decide to carry a specific model, it is because our team have a favourable view of the instrument and what it offers musically. With that said, we certainly do our best to be as objective as possible and we have pointed out both the shortcomings of some models we do carry ourselves and the successes of some models we do not carry. In any case, we sincerely appreciate you taking the time to check out our channel and send your feedback! Thanks again and all the best! :)

$3200 for this or $6700 for NV10. Decisions decisions

Buy the least expensive. Putting loads of money into electronic instruments is a poor idea as they rapidly become obsolete. I bought a $5,000.00 Yamaha Clavinova in perfect condition on Craig's list for $300.00. The person who sold it to me said there was no market for it. I have a neighbor who has a Yamaha Diskclavier upright. I think they may have paid $10,000.00 for it. I'm not sure. What I do know is the electronics are completely obsolete. It uses 3.5" floppies for storage. Yamaha no longer supports it. Also, I believe that the NV10 may have the Grand Action II not the III which is considered much much better than the II. That would be a consideration.

@@JoeLinux2000 While I generally agree with this advice, I don't see the NV10 being "obsolete" anytime soon. It IS a gamechanger (overused word these days I know). The CA79 is pretty darn nice too though. I've just got a weird opportunity to buy an NV10 way below market price right now.
@JoeLinux20004 жыл бұрын
@@marcusvaldes I don't know anything about the NV10. I just know how rapidly technology changes. A lot might have to do with how good a pianist you are, and for what purpose you are using the instrument. I know a lady that has a somewhat recent Baldwin Grand, and hate playing the thing. It's a noisy beast with a heavy action. I much prefer playing on my Casio / Pianoteq Pro set up. Sounds great. Comparatively inexpensive, and easy to move.

@@JoeLinux2000 I guess the point I'm really trying to make in response to yours is that--yes, the monetary VALUE (worth) may drop quickly, but the utility of the NV10 won't (unless it breaks!!) And you are correct, the NV10 is likely MUCH more piano than I will ever need, but it is really nice.
@brickmissing82954 жыл бұрын
Monetary resale value and the value of the enjoyment you get from playing the instrument are two different things. The NV10 uses a real grand piano action so the touch and feel are unlikely to be surpassed for many years. We’ve entered the age of small incremental improvements in sound engines - so you’re unlikely to see a night-and-day difference in the digital piano sounds 10 years from now. My p50m piano module from 2001 still sounds pretty good to me.

Wow....what a overly complicated intro into the digital piano world. I’ve been playing a Kawai studio grand for years and this is all mush to moi. Sorry.

Nice demo. However you talk too much. You should be playing more.

This is NOT a concert, the point is to learn about the piano and his feedback. Trying to judge the sound quality of piano over KZbin is just dumb.

What an outright idiotic response. Go elsewhere to troll, or make your own review. Most of us come here for the exact intelligent and careful review delivered here.

Awesome. I have a 6 year old CLV-545 and the action is very heavy (76-88 grams)(weight to get the key to move down). About what is it for the CA79?
