Well... my friend offered me his SX-240, the one I repaired. I guess I couldn't say no to that. I bought it. I'm not 100% sure I'll keep it - just with everything I have, there's so much stuff and I'm realizing I just don't get around to all of it, but it's nice to take it for a spin. So here I go.
Eventide Blackhole VST for reverb.
Recorded June 30th, 2024.

KAWAI (TEISCO) SX-240 (1984) was the synthesizer of my boyhood dream. Forty years have passed since then, and now the soundscape of my boyhood longing is spreading before my eyes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hey thanks! Yeah, I couldn't believe my friend sold it to me. This is really a great sounding synth. Beautiful to film too!

I had it for two years... wonderful lush sounds but... it's signature sound comes from that wonderful analog onboard ENSEMBLE effect. I never found anything similar to that warm ENSEMBLE fx... nor hardware nor plugin.

Oh yeah, you know it's funny, I haven't really used it much because it's so overpowering, but it is quite nice :) Thanks!

God, this synth (and your playing) just has so much soul. I'm immediately swept away to old forgotten harbours and lonely seaside promenades.

Thanks! I think when I recorded this one I hated it and walked away wishing I hadn't bought the thing. Funny how that doesn't really come across in the video!

@@MIDERA As a fellow musician, I know we don't get enough feedback for our creativity, so I'm just going to say this... You have no idea the power of what you've done here. I've never heard of you - never seen one of your videos and never heard any of your music. I clicked on the video because the image of the keyboard brought me back to a different time. About 15 seconds in, I was instantly transported back in time, decades ago, walking through my little seaside town at night, listening to 'Hearts of Space' on my Walkman headphones. I found myself once again on our old, concrete seawall, looking out over the vast, peaceful waters, the distant boats, the headlights crossing our two-mile long bridge and the star-filled sky above. You may have bought this instrument on a whim and you may have sat and composed this piece of music unconvinced that you were pleased with what what you'd done. You may feel you have much better gear and much better music than you have put forth in this video, but whatever you paid for this synth and whatever you think about your impromptu creation, just know that your whole adventure with this keyboard has had an incredibly profound and emotional effect on at least one sentient being on the pale blue dot. And for this, I thank you sir.

Nice demo, thanks for sharing Midera. I love the part starting around 7:00. These things are so cool and actually have a really great feature set (8-voice, bitimbral, dual DCO, SSM filters, built-in sequencer and ensemble effect). Only real downside is the parameter input method seems a bit clunky, even for an 80s synths.

Thanks! Yeah, very great feature set. I was surprised (and surprised by how much better it is than the SX-210, the one I always thought I'd be most likely to get). I agree the parameter input method is clunky. However, it's surprisingly easier than the DW-8000. I think because you don't have to look at the number to input. You just move left right up down and that's it.

@@MIDERA Interesting, I guess having the parameters organized in a more visual/spatial way makes it easier to navigate? Poly-61 is similar to the DW-8000, except it's such a simple synth that it's pretty easy to edit.

That was awesome! Would love to hear another. P.S. if you don't want the 240 I could make some room!

Thanks! I have some more coming :) I would offer the 240 to the friend who sold it to me first... and I probably wouldn't ship it out unfortunately, so if you're in Minnesota, you'd have a better chance of being able to buy it!

Thanks. The reason I asked is I have seen an additive synth from Kawai that sounded awesome.
